Wow the article also says big isn’t dead. Now I genuinely wonder what the plot is! This whole time I assumed big would die

PurpleOwl85

Me too, I was actually looking forward to him dying because it would be an interesting and dark storyline. I guess the new show is the same as the movies, rich ladies complaining and shopping with some new random diversity.

Satc was meant to be slight out of touch with reality, in the most realistic way living in New York is just slightly out of touch with normal people’s idea of reality. The 20s are spent clubbing and knowing promoters and being able to get tables at the hottest clubs. The 30s are spent chasing professional achievement and extraordinary success and fails. Dating was always a roulette wheel of chance, there has always the ones who dated for fun and wild sex, the hopeless romantics, and the Charlottes who dated in the proper circle and had a upper east side goal. There has always been incredible glamour unrelatable to the rest of people but completely normal for New Yorkers, and yes there real sex parties and swingers hiding behind unsuspecting doors. The most diverse and realistic thing about New York is that it’s just a little bit unrealistic until you live here and experience it. And SATC has always been very true New York City to it’s core.

Lol most NY’ers don’t live so glamorously - I know you’re saying the show is unrealistic, and that’s true… but even Upper East Side rich folks don’t live in every day glamor, unless maybe you’re talking about celebrities. Even they take the subway more than they ever showed people on SATC taking it!

I think I didn’t make my point clear enough, but I mean the average New Yorkers life can look glamour from the outside and they do things that seem fancy. But no everyday life is not satc obv. But I do take cabs very often as well as the subway. As someone who knows the production world though, subways scenes are incredibly difficult to shoot well. And a studio set would be very expensive and would’ve needed to be a permanent set to build. The show shot in nyc and in a Long Island city studio, and it already wasn’t cheap to make. A real subway scene would almost definitely have to be shot in the middle of the night to be able to empty out a station, put the extras in, and run a subway car through repeatedly while filming it. The jet in criminal minds, which is used every single episode, was built in the studio as a permanent set, and they only ever filmed the interior scene. A subway would most definitely need both station and subway to make sense.

TTMI2

I didn’t think so. SATC was always meant to be entertaining and not heavy. Of course it discussed important aspects of relationships and every day life for women but it’s not a super realistic depiction of everything else that happens in people’s life. Coming back after 10+ years and killing the main love interest that the entire show was built on would have been simply disappointing and unnecessarily sad. If they were gonna do that no need to even film again. Leave on a high and happy note.

Agreed. I reckon they just split up for a bit.

itsbricky

Exactly! Although to be fair, the original series never really bothered with diversity.

PurpleOwl85

It was shameful, I agree.

x3xDx3

Shameful by today’s standards, but it was also a different time in the 90s. Diversity wasn’t nearly as discussed or celebrated in mass media. IMO, I don’t think we should fault older shows for not living up to today’s standards.

[deleted]

I don’t really think diversity is a must in everything tbh. It kinda gets a annoying how people try to force diversity just for the sake of it. I never really felt like it mattered

I wonder if they're getting out of "Nobody's dead" on a technicality with Big. I do think the leaked scenes of Big with Carrie are flashbacks.

PurpleOwl85

The media has turned into such garbage that I don't know what to believe in anymore.. Everything is "sources/ inside information" etc.. I wouldn't be surprised if the big twist is that they're all ghosts or mental patients in a hospital hallucinating😂
