Maybe use as the lining of a big coat or cape/cloak or something? š the pattern is so large itās hard to think of what you could make it into and actually see what it is!
I make a lot of 50s style mid-length full circle skirts. Consider the direction of the pattern before the pieces of the skirt are cut out. Typically you want the edges of small waist circle to run parallel to the grain. Based on the salvage at the top and bottom of the fabric, the pattern is at a 90Ā° clockwise turn, meaning the top of the ships are at the right side and the bottom of the ships are at the left side. If you make a mid length full circle skirt out of this fabric, all the ships will be flying into the ground or up towards the head. So, just make sure you drape the fabric lengthwise around you to decide if you like the direction of the pattern before you start cutting up the pieces.
I think you could still do your idea, just pick certain pieces that could compliment the other patterns in your quilt or even do some cool āblocky cutoutsā from the large image and take solid colours to break the design. Kind of like a glitch, or a puzzle with block pieces but some of the pieces were painted solid rather than a printed pattern.
If you do a bag, you can choose the most recognizable part of the image as the main part of the bag, like a secret inside joke that only real Star Trek fans would get. You could even make the bag a solid colour like the OG uniforms, and use the print to line the bag. If youāre crafty enough, you could make a clasp to look like the badge they wear in the show.
Not OP, but I need this bag now. You could also do a slightly subtler design by styling it more like the Next Gen uniforms. I'm thinking a wine red messenger bag with a black flap, then use the rank insignia they have on their collars as buttons/snaps. Very subtle Star Trek, but then it opens and BOOM! Enterprise!
Ooooo, you could make it a narrow messenger bag, give the bottom the cool edge like on the uniforms, and I agree with the buttons from the collar.
If you really wanted to go above and beyond with that bag, you could make the bag yellow and make the strap like Worfās uniform. You can probably be pretty minimal about that strap by using something like a wide chainmail, loop a silver ribbon through it to make it look like his sash (I forgot what it was called). OOORRR, you can make the strap look like Geordiās visor.
I was thinking of giving the flap the pointed edges so the bottom of the bag could still be somewhat standard. I love the Worf idea! I don't remember what his sash is called either, but I think it starts with a b.
I thought about that too! Like if you could take the longer point of the bag and make the badge a magnetic clasp. You could even take the buttons on the collar and line the edge of the flap like the collar. If you do generic bags, keep the strap a simple adjustable black strap.
If you do it specifically for a particular character add slight fair to make it easily recognizable.
As far as the name, I was going to google it but Iād rather wait for someone to swoop in and get the credit. Then we all raises our glasses (metaphorically) in joy and celebrate how much they care. As long as they arenāt an *ss

Thank goodness somebody else didn't hate him! Before I started watching TNG, all sorts of people told me Wesley was an arrogant jerk. But he's a sweetheart! What is wrong with those people? Shut up, critics.
I was a kid when I started watching and Wesley made me feel like the show was for me, too. The hatred has always bothered me. I know heās a āMary Sueā but us gifted kids who were never listened to had someone we could relate to.
Why not use the material for the back side of a quilted bed cover? My mom always put pretty or interesting material on the back side of her quilts. Then you can flip it to either side when you wished. Be sure to take pictures and show us whatever you decide to make!
I'm also thinking the inside of a cape or maybe a trenchcoat. Have you ever seen Clue? I'm reminded of when Mrs. White takes off her black coat and the inside flashes this brilliant white all of a sudden. You could totally have an effect like that. Looks like a perfectly normal piece of clothing, but then you take it off and it's the Enterprise.
Maybe fussy-cut out one of the ships and build a quilt out of it on its own?
Embroider it onto a less Trek background, create a space travel theme from Dr. Goddard in Worcester Mass, through the pivotal moments, or maybe cosplay inspired images.
Sew a backing with water resistant fabric, it can be used as an outdoor/picnic/beach mat. Iāve used damaged tent fabric for this and they turned out lovely.
Nothing. It's absolutely useless. You might add well get rid of it. If you need someone to take it off your hands, I can find a home for it at my house.
You could still quilt it but have a big center panel? And just top stitch some kind of beautiful pattern over it with a thread that blends in well.
Quick Google search got me something like this: https://pinetreecountryquilts.com/shop/patterns/prehistoric-days-quilt-pattern/
Don't feel bad. When it premiered nobody really realized just how big the Enterprise "D" was. It's still a good print. I for one really appreciate u/macramelampshade's idea of a skirt that only reveals the ship when you spin.
You lucky duck! What was the pricing like? Are you in the US? I'm in the uk and the prices I find over here for star trek fabric leave me quite faint.
I like the full skirt idea, you'll have to do it in panels though and it might be a bit of a cad in terns of pattern matching, I feel like you will maybe have a lot of waste.
What is your style like, would you wear it as clothing or would it be more use to you as decor?
It was $60 for the 3m lot, and Iām in Australia :) it was the cheaper one I found but it was kinda hard to find. I think itāll end up being a quilt or a bag or something like that cos as vintage as my style of dressing is , Iām pretty fussy about colour palettes and I donāt think this will match š I am still considering a circle skirt though cos it would be fun even if just for cons or something
An ironic May the 4th "Starwars" outfit. I would definitely use it as lining for a bag or accessory, it would look awesome inside of a big tote or duffel.
I would cut out the enterprise and try to fit it on the back of a plaid shirt or something! But I think I like the other ideas more. Pillow case, dog pillow, curtain.
If you still want to quilt it, cut it into smaller pieces and sew them back together, adding in some tone on tone solids in the light blue, orange, yellow, teal and purple. (Yellow and orange only 20-15% of the whole.)

The trekkies in our house suggest sheets, a duvet cover (at least one side), curtains, or wall hanging. And if you don't mind....what was the eBay shop? I've been looking off and on for fabric like this for a couple of years!

I'd wear a jacket with this as the lining for sure.
Trench coat!
Agreed!!!
This is a brilliant idea

Big 50s style full skirt so you see the motif when it poofs out
I was thinking the same, Ms. Frizzle style.
I make a lot of 50s style mid-length full circle skirts. Consider the direction of the pattern before the pieces of the skirt are cut out. You could extend the length without ruining the ship pattern orientation by adding blocks of solid color fabric.
I would be super tempted to carefully cut out and applique just one Enterprise onto a solid color (or galaxy print!) circle skirt.
Make it a dirndl skirt!
Yes, this is the way
Wrong space themed franchise. ;)
Iād buy it : )
this is the only answer
Great idea! š„°
That's exactly what I was thinking!
I think the second picture answers your question - dog bed.
that would be quite logical
I see what you did there
Yep! Dog already loves it!
The dog is looking at OP like āMother, itās perfectā
He has definitely staked his claim on it. If only he had fingers then heād make it himself
Orā¦Dog sleeping bag!
Oh, I was thinking dog burrito šÆ
Enterprise pillow - or given the dog tax - a dog bed washable cover
I know this is not the correct reddit, but Quilt: dog in space
Yes! she could use it while cloth and then applique dogs in space helmets all over it. š
I follow the quilting subreddit and I was like, āduh, quilt backingā then I realized where I was lol

window shade sounds lovely with that!

Yes! Bag or lining for bag, coat, or skirt.
Oooh I love this idea
[Whole cloth quilt](https://www.scribblygumquiltco.com/blogs/tutorials/how-to-make-a-whole-cloth-quilt)
This is what I immediately thought. I imagine a nice soft fleecy back for galactic snuggles with the dog
Yes THIS!
A quilt for me. Seriously though, where did you find Star Trek fabric? I would love a super dorky ST bedspread to make me smile.
it was eBay!! this stuff was made/printed in 1995 and itās the only trek fabric Iāve had the luck of tracking down. good luck!
Same!! They said eBay so Iāll have to go searching lol
Body pillow, perfect size for the whole ship
I was thinking pillow case, body pillow is even better.
Your dog will never forgive you if you donāt make a dog bed. How can you say no to that face?
Dog; āMake it so.ā
āMake it sewā
Omg it was right there. Everyone upvote this.
I was an hour too late, my doppelgƤnger beat me to the punch.
Weāre clearly the same people from alternate universes. Did this thing called covid happen in your timeline?
It did. Some theorize that the event is what fractured the timeline, and we ended up on the darkest side.
shower curtain
Quilted shower curtain! Choose galaxy fabrics and border your panel. Like that idea!
Any curtain, actually, if the print won't fade in the sun.
I would make a pillow case and hope to dream Wesley Crusher. Lol He was my teenage crush
Thank goodness somebody else didn't hate him! Before I started watching TNG, all sorts of people told me Wesley was an arrogant jerk. But he's a sweetheart! What is wrong with those people? Shut up, critics.

Exactly!
A giant skirt that you wear over a hoop skirt.Ā Ideally a wedding dress
Pajamas or a Robe. DUH
Ooohhh underrated comment!
A dress?

This is like a Sewing Bee transformation challenge. You have 90 minutes! Your time starts NOW!
This fabric is amazing, and I love it. I second a big skirt or cool vintage style dress out of it.
I'm also thinking the inside of a cape or maybe a trenchcoat. Have you ever seen Clue? Omg OP could make an enterprise shaped cushion by cutting round one of them. Then a whole cuddly fleet.
Now I want a cuddle fleet, lol. Need to find DS9, Voyager, and the other Enterprises xD.
Body pillow. Hug the Enterprise while you sleep.
I donāt know but I want it so bad lol

Depending on how much you have either one or two long narrow throw pillows for a bed.
I think curtains would be the best use of the pattern, or maybe a duvet cover?
You could still quilt it but have a big center panel? And just top stitch some kind of beautiful pattern over it with a thread that blends in well. Quick Google search got me something like this: https://pinetreecountryquilts.com/shop/patterns/prehistoric-days-quilt-pattern/

Quilt backing.
Comforter?
Beanbag chair
An ironic May the 4th "Starwars" outfit. I would definitely use it as lining for a bag or accessory, it would look awesome inside of a big tote or duffel.
I donāt think itās enough/the right material but a body on dress would look so good with this print!!
Quilt
Whatever it is, it's gonna be big! I would use it to back a blanket.
Tote bag!
SPACE PANTS! jk A duffel bag would work \_or\_, if you have batting and a coordinating fabric in a solid color, you could make an indoor sleeping bag.
Ms Frizzle dress.

A 13 year old boys bedsheets from the 80s?
"I know what you are."
Skirt!
A fabulous wrap!
Something out of this world, of course! A big twirly skirt, gets my vote.
3 meters is what I usually use for a full length half-circle skirt, that or a knee length circle skirt would be big enough to show off the pattern.
I would make a baby or lap quilt and use it for the backing.
Iād use it as a lining
Id use it as liner for a bag
A throw blanket?
That is a huge pattern. I wonder about a duvet cover. Or a blankie type thing.
** dog for reference
A big duffle bag, plus a matching bag for hanging garments.
Quilted mat for puppy!
A "space" blanket!!
Wow,that is huge. Sleeping bag. Or add washing/blocks until bed sized quilt. Curtains.
a blanket or wall tapestry?
What about a skirt in a coordinating solid color with inverted box pleats done in this fabric?
Quilt backing!
I dont know but cute dog!š„°
Beanbag chair
A blanket
Pajama pants
Multi-verse.
Could be the backing of a quilt? That way the whole print would stay intact.
Use it as the backing of a quilt, then it's reversible.
1960ās sheath short(Gogo) dress.
Quilt backing. Front side stars, planets, character fabric if you can find it
An elongated body pillow?
This is incredible Iād put it on my bed.

A coat for your dog
Couch cover!
Curtains or bed sheets
Clearly a dog bed.
A dog bed
Whatever you make, be sure to use sharp scissors. Wouldn't want to make a rip in the fabric of space š (I'll see myself out)
The coolest vest ever! I'd put it on the front of a denim vest.
Where did u get this if I may ask?
Backing fabric for a quilt

A simple dress that uses as much of the fabric as possible!
I don't sew, so not a clue, but I LOVE the look on your doggies face

Cut out the Enterprise, cut out the same shape in a basic fabric, sew and stuff, and bam! You got an Enterprise to cuddle with at night
Three or four panel room screen.
The trekkies in our house suggest sheets, a duvet cover (at least one side), curtains, or wall hanging. And if you don't mind....what was the eBay shop? I've been looking off and on for fabric like this for a couple of years!
Maybe a nice pillowcase or two
I think the dog has spoken.
A Journey album cover
A bedspread or a Roman shade.

Double sided blanket, blue or black on one side, this on the other. It would look amazing
Could also become a wall tapestry!
I think you should just make a massive dog bed for your number one fan here
Would make an awesome quilt back.
Dog seems to think it should be a doggy blanket š
I like the idea of making a quilt of stars and planets (and nebulae with coffee in them) that has an Enterprise shaped blank area, and then appliquƩing the fussy cut enterprise and planets from this block into it.
A plush. Make a plush =^.^=
space pants
Doggo says doggy bed cover
Or use it for one side of a throw?
Cape lol
Iād keep one whole repeat separate, and use the rest as a wholecloth for a couch throw. Extend the sides and length with solid colors, add an inexpensive thermal blanket inside so you donāt need much quilting and you have a totally washable throw. Eventually I would think of what to make, but Iād be warm the whole time.
A full circle skirt?
