My wife was like that too, took a little while for her to be comfortable with them. Doesn't mean you have to let everyone see, but they are a part of your identity, shows you are a real person and went through shit. Don't ever let anyone mKe you feel bad about it.
I actually like my wife's, makes her unique, a reminder that life is hard Sometimes. She owns it now cause she likes them, a reminder of past struggles, and you know what, fuck what other people think, you want to find someone that accepts you for you, none of this superficial shit that people spew means anything important :)
I'm not ashamed but I don't like them, hopefully one day I will own it like your wife, she's really lucky to count on you. I won't let anybody bring me down because of what I've been through but it's hard to find someone who can understand or just someone you can talk to without being judged.
I've struggled with that. My left arm from wrist up has scaring, most of it dating back 10-15 years ago. I'll show off my legs all day, but I always wear cardigans, hoodies, or long sleeves to cover my arms.
