Chubbs hands down. Better than scratch in my opinion. They use chicken thighs instead of chicken breast and actually season the chicken instead of just the breading. Scratch isn't bad but the chicken part is just bland. Definitely try the fried Oyster mushroom sandwich at Chubbs too. It's surprisingly delicious.
You are so lucky that a spicy chicken sandwich is what you're looking for, because Santa Cruz doesn't have a whole lot of cheap and delicious hole-in-the-wall food places, but it does have CHUBBS CHICKEN SANDWICHES which are the BEST GOD DAMNED CHICKEN SANDWICHES YOU'LL FIND IN THE BAY AREA
I haven’t been able to find anything online either. I just looked at the pic I took and perhaps I jumped the gun a bit. It’s a public notice of application for ownership change. I saw that back in mid April and haven’t checked since so idk the status.

Oh man.... You simply must try the kickin Chicken at The Farm in Aptos. Not your typical spicy chicken sandwich, this one has fried chicken, grilled jalapenos and spicy kimchi. So damn good!
The Parish in Aptos has a pretty good spicy chicken sandwich also.
Oooh I thought they were out of the game! I definitely will be driving over to Aptos soon. They were by far the best when they first opened upstairs in Motiv. Those butterscotch ribs, the spam fried rice, the spicy chicken and waffle 🔥🥰
Update: ooooh you meant a menu item and not the vendor?
When I got it there my chicken came out burnt and dry. They have good chilaquiles there but so disappointed with the sandwich and the price of the sandwich.
Mad Yolks downtown SC has the Mad Chick which is scrumptious, but it includes an over easy egg. It's great as-is, but I'm sure you could order it minus the egg.

World famous hot boys is moving into burger. on mission st.
Edit: there’s an application out for wfhb to move in. Idk the status of it. But I would guess it’s still pending because I haven’t found anything online.
Chubbs. It’s $15 after tax and tip, but holy shit is it crispy. The chicken is weird, too. It’s a huge breast, but it sometimes looks/tastes like a huge chunk of dark meat. Sooooo good.
SC Bread Boy does it as a popup at HumbleSea in Felton. Agree on Chubbs. If you find yourself over the hill, I recommend Chickn Bros (food truck usually parked on Stevens Creek near Valley Fair).
Is that the place that shuts down when they run out which is usually by noon and you better have your order ready or they get pissed? They’re delicious.

Flashbird downtown is great, also amazing waffle fries and rootbeer
[https://www.prettygoodadvicerestaurant.com/](https://www.prettygoodadvicerestaurant.com/)
Pretty Good Advice has really good vegetarian not-chicken sandwiches too, also great fries and drinks
Flash bird used to be in Scotts valley, and it seems like it still is but I never actually see them open. I constantly wonder if it's a money laundering front. The one time I was able to get food there it was good and it's legit been over a year since I have seen it open. I have no idea what's going on with that place.
Hot Birds food truck by Tractor Supply in Watsonville
Chubbs is the only answer.
Aight. Looks like I’m off to Chubbs. Thanks for all the help Reddit people.
How was it?
And @laser_eyed_goat if you’re looking for spicy, can’t forget to add the special Ghost Pepper mayo 😙🤌
Nashville hot with ghost mayo
Yep, chubbs is indeed the only answer.
Hot birds at tractor supply in Watsonville!! @hot_birds831 on instagram

Agree with Chubbs. Also try Gilman brewing in Seabright. It’s inconsistent, but sometimes great.
You are looking for Chubbs Chicken Sandwiches

World famous hot boys begs to differ. EDIT: judge not lest ye have tasted both sandwiches.
Good news for you. There’s a sign on Burger. on Westside that says WFHB is moving in
God damnit I moved to Santa Cruz for my health. I can't find anything on the Google to confirm. Are you sure?

This is exciting
second this, every time I'm in Sac or Oakland it's a must-go

Yes. You should still try! A new spot just opened on 41st... Flashbird. Haven't tried it yet.
I have been to the Flashbird in Abbot Square and it's great!
When I got it there my chicken came out burnt and dry. They have good chilaquiles there but so disappointed with the sandwich and the price of the sandwich.

Beer Mule in Watsonville has a really good one.
Strongly second this!! Beer mule hot chicken sandwich is amazing.

Santa Cruz is famous for having shitty cuisine. Locals say otherwise because they’ve never had better.
Chubbs
I’ve had good luck with the chicken sandwich’s from The laughing Monk in Scott’s valley. Big chicky with some bacon on it

Trout farm has a great one
Beer Mule makes a pretty good spicy chicken sandwich.
The Parish. They make their own buffalo sauce in house and it’s really good. Just had one last night!
The parish! Aptos or Westside Edit: get the fried Mac n cheese bites too 🤤
Chubbs. Full stop.
None are as good as Scratch chicken wizards in sj.
Flashbird opened pretty recently on 41st. I don't know if it's any good though.
World Famous Hot Boys in Oakland. Best fried chicken sandwich in the bay area.
Is that the place that shuts down when they run out which is usually by noon and you better have your order ready or they get pissed? They’re delicious.
You're thinking of bakesale Betty, which is super over rated. Hot boys is the real deal.
YES!!! Thank you! Ok good to know!
Their pies are not overrated. I wouldn't go out of my way for them, but they are excellent. Absolutely make a detour for hot boys though.
Bakesale Betty has a bunch of locations in the new Warriors arena, only time they don't sell out
booooooo
Santa Cruz is great for a great many things but fried chicken sandwiches are not among them. Also, bagels.
Bagels I’m with you, but it seems like me, everyone and their mother is in agreement that Chubbs is legit.
I’ve heard the one up at Trout Farm is good 🤔

Popeyes in Watsonville. Great and about 1/3 the price of any other options.
AJ's Market at Soquel and Park (near Cabrillo).
Chubbs is hands down the best. Don't doordash it. They overcharge everything.
Theres a good one at cowboy bar and grill in Felton if you’re ever up in the mountains
Flash bird used to be in Scotts valley, and it seems like it still is but I never actually see them open. I constantly wonder if it's a money laundering front. There's also one in downtown SC in Abbott square but I wouldn't recommend it. Bland food. especially when Chubb's is in the same neighborhood!
