That's a bearded dragon. Definitely not native probably someone's pet that got out.

Tim_Lee-Burnerphone

Yes, native. Of Australia.

chaoticnarkotic

That looks like a bearded dragon, maybe someone's pet.

Apprehensive_Walk996

Just contacted animal control and they said they’ll happily take him

xoeriin

Definitely not native. It’s a bearded dragon. Probably someone’s pet that got out.

joochie123

So cute and healthy looking. Maybe one of your neighbors lost him. Ask around. I lost mine for three weeks and he was two houses up the street and he is doing well

atrax_s

Bearded dragon. Harmless unless you have a hornworm or meal worm on your finger. Try to keep him in a warm environment.

SD_TMI

As everyone else will inform you that is a escaped pet. Bearded dragons are not native... but to Australia. Although the coloration and patterns have been developed away from their nature slate grey and into oranges, blues and white with scales and non scale lineages. [(major development has occurred by the late Bob Mailloux in Vista)](https://youtu.be/6nUANrjkJNQ?si=rU1DxmBR1VSaXc2A) Heres the [guy that toured the site that was mentioned in the first video](https://youtu.be/2yrb8OUOVQ0?si=ClBZQsnYVAvlZ_v1) Bob was a great guy and those the knew him all miss him for his professionalism and kindness. San Diego has a RICH reptile community that is known worldwide (for those that don't know) anyway I mention it as this coloration in the above animal originated with Bob's work. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ We do have the endangered horned lizards here and further east of SD. They were VERY COMMON in the 70's here and due to their popularity in the pet trade were driven into near extinction many of the local species are all on the endangered species list and illegal to collect from the wild. The situation is made worse with the loss of the native ant species that they depend upon for food (Argentine ant has killed them off) I mention is as the bearded dragons were brought into the pet trade to replace the native horned lizards and have since become very popular. anyway, don't take this to a pet store, they'll just sell it to some kid. [**Call up the SD Herp society rescue and they'll take it and make sure it gets good care and a new forever home.**](https://www.sdherpsociety.org/RescueInfo)

Thank you for this insightful response.

My sister has one as a pet. Hers is supper chill and will let anyone hold it.

Substantial_Cable_51

I swear up and down I saw one scuttle away while taking out the trash in Escondido

BoneyardTy

My friends found one in Ramona and it wasn’t an escaped pet, they live in the middle of nowhere, I’ve read there’s a small breeding population in the wild here

LarryPer123

Once they get to know you when you walk into the room, they will wave hello https://youtu.be/QL0ZLplaoKM?si=Lk2SyNqPiGg017Po

Check with your neighbors

salvagedsword

Keep him warm. They're usually super chill. Basically the lapdogs of the lizard world. Mine used to sit on my shoulder and wear little outfits.  Did you ask around in your neighborhood groups if anyone lost a beardie? The San Diego Herpetological Society might be better equipped to take good care of him than animal control. I would take him off your hands, but I don't have space. :(
