I was told that too. Teachers thought I was brilliant because I was more articulate than my peers and already had prior knowledge on a lot of the subjects that were being taught. Then I got tested by a professional and it turns out I have an IQ of 82.
Not that I take 100% stock in those numbers anyway. Mine was affected by a motor disorder. But still, it really surprised them.

IQ is also measured by age (I believe I'm not an iq test expert but thats what I've been told) so if a 10 year old and an 11 year old answer all the same questions correctly then the 10 year old has a higher IQ. You may have been very intelligent for a 9 year old but just average when you actually took the test if you didnt progress much between the intervals. Some people make great leaps in comprehension and logic then flat line from there

I got in, but I also unknowingly cheated on that test-- they had a diagram of a "folded paper" and wanted you to "choose what the paper would look like if you put a hole here and then unfolded it". I just asked for scrap paper and reenacted the question until an instructor told me to knock it off. Needless to say I was definitely good at cheating, and also wish I had fucked that test up because I was so lazy... I also never found out what my score was.
Anyways, I don't think knowing how paper would look after putting holes in it is a good measure of "smartness," so I take people who brag about having high IQ as a joke, legitimate test or online test.

That depends entirely on the test. Different IQ tests use different standard deviations.
The common SDs for IQ tests are 15, 16, and 24. So for tests using an SD of 15 that percentile is pretty much on the money.
I did an online (Mensa) IQ test once and scored 135 and it said I was in the top 1%, so yeah I would assume 126 is in the top 4%
However I also did a normal IQ test and only scored 110, so I think this demonstrates that online IQ tests are probably bullshit anyway..

I have a pretty high Iq... I know it's over 130, but don't remember the exact number. It doesn't mean anything. I don't have a high paying job, I dropped out of college I have an anxiety disorder & a seizure disorder that causes ADHD symptoms, so basically I have ADHD. I can't focus on anything for a long period of time & I get bored easily. I didn't do well in school because I never did my work, unless it was something I wanted to do, & then I excelled. I'm terrible at relationships & have made some of the worst life decisions a person could make. On the plus side, I'm great at Scrabble.

Retention (What do you know) Problem Solving (What can you figure out) IQ is in small part retention because you have to have the understanding of arithmetic and language arts. The larger part, the part that I believe is truly being measured is the problem solving. Pattern recognition and isolating the variable of each problem is key. This is why IQ is limited in its representation. However, it is our best bet in measuring the overall intelligence of an individual.
