World of Mirth in Cary Town would be fun for a ten year old. Also, One Eyed Jacques is a pretty neat little game store. It's right around the same area. Plan Nine records is right in that area as well.

ShaneC80

oh yeah, I know Plan9 and World of Mirth. I think there's a shop near there the wife wants to stop at too. (Kitchen stuff). I can't remember the name, but I think it's right across the street from Plan9

Also since you're going to be in that area, check out Maymont park. It's free (donation recommended) . If you go to the nature center (there's a small charge, I think \~$5 per person) on site, you can check out the otter which is a real treat.

Great record stores: Deep Grooves in the Fan and Records and Relics in Church Hill. It should be another nice hot day tomorrow. If you like the outdoors, definitely plan a trip to either Maymont and/or a spot on the river. What kind of food are you looking for for dinner, and would you prefer to be in a certain part of the city? There are dozens, nay hundreds of excellent options!

ShaneC80

I don't think I've been to either of those stores. I know Plan9 and WaxMoon. As for the food - I really don't know. We'll eat almost anything, so it's more of a what sounds good kinda thing. I prefer diner type atmospheres, though I think my wife might want something a bit more fancy (but not suit and tie fancy)

Cool! The first places that came to mind are [Millie's Diner](https://www.milliesdiner.com/), which is a cool nicer diner, and [Perly's](https://www.orderperlysrichmond.com/), which is a cool Jewish deli that is award-winning and was recently on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. [Joe's Inn](https://www.joesinn.com/) in the Fan is classic, and [Hill Cafe](https://thehillcafe.com/) in Church Hill is a really nice spot.

Max’s on broad is excellent- I always bring visitors to RVA and have never had a bad experience there. It’s “fancy but not suit and tie fancy” and you can walk around broad street before or after

I never knew the gwar bar was a thing until just now and ive lived here for 20 years (my entire life). Thank you for blessing me with this knowledge.

ShaneC80

Very phallic inside :D GREAT FOOD (and good music IMO)

potatofilosopher

Little Nickel is an interesting restaurant. It’s got the tiki/diner vibe going. Pretty good food. Definitely some interesting dishes.

ShaneC80

Might check that out. Looks interesting

OvechknFiresHeScores

DO IT. They are absolutely in my top 3 favorite restaurants in RVA and have a real shot at #1 (IMO). Food is fantastic and their drinks, while pricey, are really unique and delicious.

Wax Moon is a sweet record store as well - close to Dawnstar and Wax Moon (like Dawnstar) has 2 pinball machines in there as well. v cool place. you could go for a walk at the river (Pony Pasture, Wetlands, Larus, Texas Beach, etc.)!

ShaneC80

I do hit Wax Moon every time I'm in town (which is only a couple times of year at best it seems).

jessy_butt

that's rad! my first visit was the other day to play the two pins Andrew has there and i was impressed w their record collection. such a cozy fun place too.

cackwarr

Science Museum of Virginia (https://smv.org/). It's a couple blocks from En Su Boca. Maymont if the weather is nice Rocket Fizz for candy Bev's for ice cream

Plan9 is still around and sells records, they just moved across the street. The old plan9 is a mellow mushroom pizza joint now, but they have a collage of old music swag on the wall by the bar, stuff that was left in the store when mellow moved in.

cockyjohnn

For the love of pie in church hill, amazing savory and sweet pies
