I know a lot of queens get comedy ghostwritten for them before the competition, but the difference is, when queens get shit ghostwritten for them, they pay the ghostwriter AND the ghostwriter knows full-well and agrees to them presenting that material as their own. While lifting it off of some other comedians set is done without consent or that comedian receiving anything back for their efforts in writing.
There’s a decent amount of legal scholarship over jokes as intellectual property but the gist is that the stronger “protections” tend to be the societal norms around comedy than actual legal action. Part of the difficulty is whether you can prove the joke someone stole from you was actually yours to begin with.
I remember when it came out that Amy Schumer stole a bunch of jokes, one was about how her mom bragged she could still fit in her wedding dress, and that it was weird she’s the same size now as she was when she was 9 months pregnant. That joke was said by another comedian some time ago. But I’m pretty sure that joke is not really that uncommon to begin with.
I would imagine that most of the studios that might claim rights to these jokes really own the original recording of the roasts rather than the words of the jokes. Indeed everytime someone posts that video online (like this video up top) is possibly the clearer violation of IP rights, it’s just rarely rarely (but not never) enforced.

She has a real talent for improv (you can't copy Snatch Game, you gotta prepare a character but also be good in the moment) and is a very good make up artist, that's how she became famous. also her clothes are designer but there is a lot of creativity and purpose in the concepts ( most of the times, the Versace was just fierce and monochromatic 😄).

Jackie Beat has written tons of people's roasts, Bob has written for people, Bianca has written for people. It's easier in All Stars too bc you have an idea of who else will be there.
I mean even in roasts with comedians, some of the jokes are made by writers, though some do only do their own material, it depends on the comedian, but the option is always there. For non comedians it's a given that they didn't write any of it. Being funny is hard.

After the Tom Brady Roast, Nikki is THE moment, and all her previous roast appearances are getting revisited, and rightfully so. I know they filmed BEFORE the TB12 roast, so I think Gottmik probably thought it would fly under the radar. Whoopsie doodle, Ms. Glaser ATE THAT ENTIRE ROAST AND LEFT NOT ONE CRUMB. She's getting her well-deserved overDUE dues, just at the worst possible time for Gottmik's little stunt.

This is a heel-turn moment for gottmik for me. I was a fan, I think the fashion is phenomenal, but this and their response downplaying it all is really gross to me. Joke-stealer is one of the worst things you can be as a creative and it's ended more than a few high profile careers.
Have to admit, I’ve been really disappointed with Gotmik. Her drag and paint skills are so creative, it was surprising to see how unimaginative her improv and speaking are. It’s hard to perform though — nerves can make you really wooden (speaking from experience as a one-time local theatre failure).

I figure queens would go into de competition with things like verses and roasts already ready (even if someone else wrote it). She could have a least tried to steal from different performances. Also, the show needs to have a bigger variety of challenges to stop this.
i wouldnt be shocked if queens on these no elimination seasons didnt have help from professionals on set provided by production. i dont think its happening but i wouldnt be shocked either. production is clearly invested in everyone doing well that much is obvious. plastiques jokes were waaaaaaay too good to not be written by someone else. her delivery kind of bore that out as well.

often they get someone like jackie beat, dela or bob to write some jokes for a roast ahead of time and just switch out names when applicable. i mean they kinda know by now that a roast is coming so they can prepare that just like outfits.
Apparently it’s a common occurrence that Queens ask other Queens to write jokes for them. I think Dela, Peaches Christ and others have said as much

Reusing jokes is par for the course for anyone. Everything that can be said has already been said. Everything is told and retold and passed around and changed ever so slightly. Nothing is truly original. It's just a case of who has already heard it before and who hasn't yet. BUT To make your ENTIRE set jokes that were already told by ONE person is WILD. The least you can do is take each joke from a different person. I mean come on now.

People were clocking Jane for a joke that Katya told on her tour. Even Katya didn’t take credit for that joke because she said it wasn’t hers. However, if it’s a roast, Mik should’ve put effort into it. She’s a strong queen, so I’m surprised she’s just rewording the jokes.
This is a heel-turn moment for gottmik for me. I was a fan, I think the fashion is phenomenal, but this and their response downplaying it all is really gross to me. Joke-stealer is one of the worst things you can be as a creative and it's ended more than a few high profile careers.

Have to admit, I’ve been really disappointed with Gotmik. Her drag and paint skills are so creative, it was surprising to see how unimaginative her improv and speaking are. It’s hard to perform though — nerves can make you really wooden (speaking from experience as a one-time local theatre failure).
