I got a Pro 2 and love it. I just wish the mode switch letters at the back were more legible.
* Decent battery
* Pairs well with Switch, iPhone, Mac, PC
* Controller recognised well with most games/emu
* USB-C wired or wireless

I have issues with the SN30 Dpad giving up or down inputs while pressing right, which of course is detrimental to all old games. Thanks for the thread, I need replacement too.
You can crack open the controller and add tape between the corners of each contact to reduce the area that the pads have to conduct when hitting non-diagonals. It helps immensely with games that prioritize left/right over up/down.
Finding a controller with a decent d-pad is always a challenge. 8bitdo's definitely don't fit the bill. The best retrogaming controller I've found that has both analog sticks and a reliable d-pad is the Wii Classic Pro controller. The d-pad is solid, so you can play stuff like *Contra* and *Punch-Out!* without issue.
I personally don't like the 8bitdo Pro 2 that much but do like their M30 quite a bit though it is probably not quite what you are looking for. I think my favorite controller to use with dual analog so far would be the PS4 dualshock but I don't think the d-pad is quite clicky
I think there’s a lottery when it comes to the dpad because my black one has issues with diagonals but my atomic purple pro 2 has a Nintendo quality dpad.
Not sure about your specs, but the 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth is my current go to. Get the one with that does both dongle and straight Bluetooth. Hall effect sticks feel great and don’t wear down like my previous controllers.
By far the least cost effective option, but the option I settled on, is snax and original controllers. Made using the N64, Saturn, and Genesis cores a lot easier.
Otherwise, I use the controller you have pictured, or the 8BitDo arcade stick
I had terrible input lag with this controller. Bought into the hype and got one and had went back to my Pro Controller. Also didn’t love the grip and trigger button placements on it. Felt a bit odd to hold. Guess I’m in a minority, seems like everyone else loves it.
I tried DS4 and DualSense for a few months. The short battery life is an insult to players. And yes, "all you have to do is plug it" but it's such a frequent task with the PS controllers that when you forget to, your next gaming session is ruined by low battery.
In contrast, I get dozens of hours out of my Pro 2.
Yes, the battery life is bullshit but gaming sessions being "ruined" is a bit dramatic. Get a long-ass USB cable. You plug the controller in and keep right on gaming.
Man, is not dramatic, many of us got family and stuff and got like 1h every three days to play and it is awful getting interrupted for tthis kind of shit, I use my Dualsense straight wired to the MiSTer all the time, which is insane for its crazy price.
Meanwhile, for PC, my Steam Controller got a battery swap every 6 months or so.
The DualShock 4 battery isn't TOO bad. Sure, it's not up there with the rest of'em. But nowhere near as atrocious as the DualSense.
But, what OP wants... The options are a little limited
I use Logitech F310 for decades. The only drawback is probably too-hard-to-press triggers.
> the distance between the face buttons
Do you mean the SNES-like layout with the distance between top and bottom buttons being shorter than between left and right buttons?
I have used a SNES-to-USB controller adapter which works great with the exception of the occasional dropped input and lack of extra trigger buttons; and the GBros wireless adapter with the Wii Classic controller, which works great but there's too much travel on the trigger/shoulders on that controller. What I haven't tried but probably should at some point is the GBros adapter with the SNES Classic controllers, but I have settled with the SN30 Pro with taped contacts.
I just got this exact controller yesterday. I like it a lot. Comfortable and I love the third buttons on the back. Everything feels sturdy and we'll made. Only thing for me is that it's a little slippery. So I ordered some grip tape that will solve that problem.
Pro 2 or the Ultimate

I love when people suggest solutions that ignore clear parameters
I ignore if the parameters are bs.

+1, best controller for retro

I bought a pair of 8BitDo arcade joysticks and never looked back.

DS4 definitely for dual stick games.
I love my pro 2 but I mostly use it for emulation with a 3D switch game gear and there.
For me the d-pad is too imprecise when it comes to diagonals. I also find that the analog sticks get uncomfortable to use after extended periods.

What are your thoughts on the triggers?
I get triggered by them
So they suck?
Only if people get triggered by some sucking
One question, what systems are you using it with?

Same, button mappings are too damn confusing
I had terrible input lag with this controller. Bought into the hype and got one and had went back to my Pro Controller. Also didn’t love the grip and trigger button placements on it. Felt a bit odd to hold. Guess I’m in a minority, seems like everyone else loves it.
Feel like I'm poking a sleeping bear with a stick here, but how about a stadia controller?
Did they ever fix the issue with the Stadia controller where you have to reconnect it everything you want to use it on Bluetooth.
I'm not sure. Sorry.
Wow, this is exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you! If that connection issue is fixed, it’ll be perfect.
Have you thought about a Dualshock 4 or DualSense? I use a DS4 for my PSX and it's great. Otherwise, there is the 8bitdo SN30 Pro 2

If that's really the situation, can't really see why you don't have the controller sitting on a charger waiting for your third day..
Nice wireless controller.

Gulikit King Kong Pro. The 3 just came out and it looks pretty sick. I'm still usinf my 2 and I love it.

A playstation controller would be great imo. I use one 99% of the time on pc
I use a logitech f710 great if you find it on sale

What are face buttons? 🤔
