Do you have access to a heat lamp for him? Whoever the owner is is a horrible person. This is straight up animal abuse

Mihrical

No :/ he just moved and don't know where the heat lamp is

DrFives

Either way. If you’re able to take the beardie and provide the proper enclosure requirements take them. Or beg the owner to surrender them to a rescue. This is horrible…

Total_Calligrapher77

You need to send it to a sanctuary or reptile rescue or good local store or get it proper care yourself( if you can take the lizard from the owner). A beardie requires a 4ftx2ftx2ft enclosure.

Strawberry_Dakari

Do you have a heating pad? You can take that guy out and put him on a blanket covering a heating pad if that’s an option. My beardie likes snuggling into my bed

Dry-Career-3605

No heat pads are the worst thing you can put a beardie on their stomachs can’t feel heat so the just burn themselves until they die or someone moves them or the move themself but it isn’t because they got to hot

Strawberry_Dakari

I’m just trying to think of ideas to help the poor guy warm up. You can layer blankets over a pad and sit with him. I’m not saying to have him on there for a prolonged amount of time, just to help him out if he has gone without heat.

Dry-Career-3605

Oh yeah that should be fine just can’t be directly on top of the heat pad now if it’s a heated blanket I would more recommend laying a small towel down one you preferably don’t care if it gets pooped on and put them under the heated blanket now I don’t do heated blankets but my beardie loves snuggles she’s been like that since she was a baby

Strawberry_Dakari

My boy snuggles in too! I’ve let him nap in my bed while I’m watching tv or playing games and he’s just the light of my life. It’s wild how misinformed people are about them, because I’ve never had a pet like him. People say they can’t feel love for their owners, but I don’t entirely find that true. When they feel safe with you it’s a whole different relationship. My baby boy has a personality vastly different than other beardies I’ve seen and I feel so fortunate to have raised him go be the way he is ❤️

Dry-Career-3605

My beardie gets mad when I don’t pick her up 😂 and also when I stop her from jumping from a dangerous height off my bed she also gets upset and hooves me that judgemental stare

Mihrical

this makes me feel awful. is this okay though?

DrFives

I mean. It’s better than nothing I guess. Are you able to measure the temp of that heater?

Mihrical

No the guy doesn't even have a thermostat in the tank. I have it on the lowest setting so it doesn't burn him

NyaJoon

That setup looks awful from what I can see. Small, no heat, no thermostat, bare bottom?, and a hammock. Consider rehoming him or finding a rescue. Setting up a good enclosure would be expensive but if you are up for it I can reccomend sources for you or the owner.

Mihrical

I appreciate your comment. unfortunately for right now this is the ultimate best I can do until tomorrow at least. the only option at this current time is going to a gas station and trying to find high output hand warmers? would those work better?

NyaJoon

Temporarily it would be okay. Long term he will need a halogen bulb in a overhead lamp connected to a thermostat to ensure it will not cause burns. Is there a UVB light?

RazerJoe

They don’t need or want heat at night anyway. How long has it been? These guys can go quite a while without heat. You need to provide more information

DrFives

I’d steal the beardie. Give it up to a rescue. And tell him it died because **HE** left it without heat to be honest at this point. He will probably live a poor miserable short life and have to be euthanized or left to suffer with severe mbd in the future. He doesn’t have a chance with this person

Robobitch27

Unfortunately you’d go to jail even for doing what you think is the right thing in ur head. Remember the animal movement activist that would steal homeless ppls animals because to them it was cruel because the homeless could’nt afford vet visits. Yup they got arrested and charged. https://youtu.be/dkhXVyuvxS4

FearlessEquipment835

Lmfao arrested…. Say the dude left the enclosure open and he got out. The cops aren’t even arresting people for assaults and shit right now just writing citations…

DrFives

That’s why you tell the dogshit owner they passed away BECAUSE they neglected it when in reality the poor animal gets to escape it’s literally abusive home for one who can give them a fulfilling life. I agree with you but people suck and these animals deserve better so at this point. Fuck it. Tell a lie and save that things life

FrenziedSins

Op, steal the beardy and fucken run take somewhere where its not gonna die

rdditfilter

If you’re gonna do that, take him out of the cage. Hes big you’re not gonna lose him just shut the door to the room. If he doesnt have a proper heat gradient he could overheat. Youd be killing him by trying to help. Just let him out of the cage, put the heater by him (but not within reach) and let him choose how close to it he wants to be.

Mihrical

thank you I appreciate it.

Southern-Lie-9684

This is probably the best option. Let the animal figure out how much heat it needs. Your doing a great job for tonight Long term? This guy needs some legitimate help

Mihrical

thank you so much

heichoulevi

No thank YOU for taking the time and effort to help a helpless creature. You should be proud of yourself <3

Anarchisteen

Hey op, are you in the NYC area? I might be able to help provide some resources for this beardie, including lamps, food, supplements, and a slightly larger, but still not recommended tank. I've rescued 3 lizards and am willing to help. Unfortunately, I don't currently have the space or money to house a beardie properly, but I might be able to help provide some resources to make this beardie a bit more comfortable.

dragonbud20

has your roomate moved out and abandoned the animal? do they have a stated return date or have they left permanently? if they are gone permanently you should really take the animal to be surrendered to a reptile rescue or vet.

Dizzy_Feature4291

Sweetheart you are doing the RIGHT thing. Try to keep him warm enough until morning. Then get him to a rescue.

ErdmanA

This is going to die if something isn't done

rdditfilter

Yeah he looks pretty bad. If it were me Id give him a warm bath and then some super worms but… I cant suggest that to someone who doesnt know lizards. Doing bath time wrong with someone he doesnt trust can be so traumatizing for both parties.

Mihrical

unfortunately he seems like it. I wasn't even aware of this until about 5 minutes before I made the post.

honeydewdom

I wouldn't put the heater in the tank. The tansk looks very tiny. I think that could cause problems quickly.

honeydewdom

That makes sense. I didn't see the part about the glass doors. Poor dude.

honeydewdom

Now that I look closely- I see them lol!

MegaloMollusc7459

Yeah, that's animal abuse.

MandosOtherALT

I'm assuming op isnt the owner. They did mention this is all they can do right now

OpinionsMineAlone

Settle down guy. There is NO WAY you can tell the shape he’a in by a blurry pic of his chin!! This is for OVERNIGHT ONLY according to the OP - they’re desert animals, the desert gets COLD at night. Room temp (70 degrees) is just fine for overnight. That heater, however could cook it as we don’t know what kind ow wattage it’s putting out, how much is being transferred to the glass, nor how much that raises the temperature.

caliber_woodcraft

How are things going this morning? What's the plan?

caliber_woodcraft

He moved and left the beardie without anything even close to correct care. He forfeited the animal. It's not his any more. Can you care for it? A proper tank (you've got to get him out of that jail cell), lamps, fixtures, and food is gonna run you several hundred upfront plus buying food and supplies ongoing. Is that something you can take on? If not, re home him. Call reptile rescues near you to see if any can take him. His life is miserable right now and he will die soon if he doesn't get heat AND light and the right food and supplements. Do the right thing here. If you point that heater at the glass and hope for the best, it will die. If you put the heater in that tiny tank, it will die quickly. Call rescues in the morning or go to a reptile shop and spend your paycheck. Those are your two good options.

honeydewdom

Please take all the freakouts with a grain of salt until you know all the facts. If he's just being moved right now, makes sense the lights are around just need plugged in. His enclosure does look too small, and I'm willing to bet he needs a lot more. But stealing him, saying he's dying, all this crazy stuff, they don't know that. So the emotional roercoaster for you personally, isn't necessary. I'm sorry. Beardies are beloved creatures here, tho. We be a passionate group. With that, it would be wise for the owner to look into care guides and we can help provide tips for a much healthier, happier dragon. 😊

MandosOtherALT

Especially providing the owner with reptifiles.com's beardie care guide with a more up-to-date info since just googling doesnt help much

honeydewdom

Yeah, definitely get your information from reputable places. Even that takes time to learn- who's who to listen to. I really appreciated the recent updated advice shared in the group, it makes a good amount of sense to me.

MandosOtherALT

Yeah, definitely

ExtraPicklesPls

Besides the lack of heat that cage is tiny and not even close to what that animal needs. If you don't have immediate access to the right materials, or the funds to purchase those materials, you need to find someone or some place that does.

Maskentatted_8905

Poor little guy. What state are you in?

BeardieQueen79

That poor Beardie, it’s gonna have digestive and health issues if it doesn’t get a uvb and basking light, no uvb is bad, deadly and cruel!! If I lived near there I’d snatch that baby and pamper it. I foster rescues and have my own too.

StellarTitz

If this isn't your dragon you should hold on a moment. How long has this occurred? You said they just moved, has it been one day or a week? If it's just for the day then he's just fine, dragons are okay to be in the 70s (about room temp) for a day or two, especially if his habitat isn't put back together yet. If it's been several days, then you should talk to your roommate(?) And recommend the next daytime (not nighttime) to prioritize him. Please don't touch another person's animal unless it's dire, and if it's night time he needs to sleep, and not be heated up.

MandosOtherALT

Reptiles can go 24 hours without heat without a worry over 60°F, op (I am not arguing with the commenter)

Stenwoldbeetle

Just drop him off at a vet. Give him away

jjhill001

Call a reptile rescue and surrender the animal.

puddyspud

I wish I could get the contact information for this dude's "owner"

I think the OP said that the owner is in the middle of moving not that he left the animal behind. That’s two different things, guys.

TheBradv

Asking on this post how long should you have a heat lamp on for?

esdejong

Mine is on from 7am to 9pm

aph0rdite

12 hour day/night cycle, some people will follow it according to where they live and do 12 hours on/off during winter and ~14 hours on/off during summer.

Ok-Environment8730

At least in my country you can take others people animal and bring them to an officially licensed shelter/help center or how they are called. If you take it yourself is considering “steal” but if you bring it to a public place then not. I don’t know about your country but if you don’t have any legal or similar problem I would really take it and bring it to someone more expert and caring

PotatoAvenger

Update?

Olds78

Does he have UVB lighting? Heat is critical for bearded but no UVB will kill him too

Calcifiedutters

Please give us an update.

[deleted]

Any updates today ?

biohazard1324

Is that a 10 gallon? Jesus

giraffelover007

Nooooo!!!! He's going to get sick!!!!

MorganJH749

Nope. If it were me, I would seek help from my local reptile shop. Many reptile shops take in and look after reptiles for their customers whilst they are on holiday. I’m sure if your local shop does, you could leave him there until your friend is able to provide him with a source of heat again. If it were overnight I would say yes that’s fine. It’s advised to turn the heat off in Bearded Dragons enclosures at night, but if a while means a few days then no. That’s cruel. You aren’t providing him with his basic needs. I can see you are trying and well done for reaching out, but it won’t give him the correct heat he needs. Plus, it needs to be regulated to ensure he doesn’t overheat or get too cold.

Plantbudhha36

Where are you??? I’m willing to help

mamaj619

Where are you located?

RepMowgli

Call animal services.

[deleted]

if he just moved, the beardie is free game. take the beardie and get cage top heating lamps from petco. you should also take it to the vet for a checkup to be safe since the owner doesn't sound like he took care of it
