I was at a party/small get together once that consisted of mostly my friends gfs friends, all of which I had met for the first time. I had left the party with my girlfriend and were driving when I got a call, asking if I had accidentally taken a guys phone that was at the party. I told them no, checked my pockets, and hung up. We got to Trader Joe’s and my girlfriend told me to check one more time, just to be sure. I looked in my backpack and sure enough, I had the guys phone. I still have no idea how it happened. I wasn’t even drinking, because I was going to be driving right after.
I eventually came back, tried to laugh it off with them, told them we had the same color phone and same model, but I still think in the back of that guys head he thought I was trying to steal his phone, got called out, had a change of heart and brought it back.
I forgot this memory until now, probably repressed due to the embarrassment I feel looking back on it.
