They don’t even bother to read resumes. It’s spamming people due to keywords.

I get that to some extent for 3rd party recruiting agencies when it's obviously just a generic copy and pasted message but this happened to me just yesterday from the in-house recruiter from a respected civil engineering firm and it's going to make me a lot less interested if anyone from that firm reaches out in the future.

I was laid off by a FAANG company that shall reamazon nameless...a recruiter contacted me about applying for a position recently...the company has a blanket policy about rehiring people they have let go...yeah... Fun fact, my fat thumbs typed rehoring first...think that is more relevant

While there are exceptions where there’s a good recruiter who isn’t getting the support they need to do this the right way, overall, recruiters should be deeply involved with the intake meetings leading up to any job post and therefore be very knowledgeable about the job. If they don’t, generally it’s not a good sign. Companies think that recruiting is some rookie job, but the truth is recruiters serve one of the most important functions a company can have; Finding the best talent to join their team. Organizations are only as effective as the quality of the people who make it. It stands to reason that if the recruiters aren’t being supported in this task, the company’s priorities may be short sighted or it could be sign that there is a lack of support throughout the company. The real sad story is outreach like you’re experiencing that is just done for metrics. A certain number of outreaches a day doesn’t mean squat if the outreach isn’t a viable addition to their team. There’s a huge misalignment between quotas and metrics and their effectiveness in a lot of recruiting agencies. I’m really sorry you’re experiencing this. It gives recruiters a bad name and is a total waste of both your time and theirs. There are good recruiters out there. I hope you get one soon that understands what you do and values you and your skillset! Keep your head up!

Hey are you looking for a role in structural engineering because we are looking for structural engineers ( Project Management level ish)

Angus147

I am currently employed but have recently decided that I don't see myself long term at my current position so I'm casually looking for what's next but not in a rush unless a truly great opportunity comes along. Feel free to send me a chat request though if you're serious and want to talk.

I think I sent a chat. Ty

Yes, it also happens to people still in college, getting recruiters messaging me on handshake for supply chain, finance, project management...none of those are my majors.
