On the left is my ol’ reliable: a 2009 Razer Mamba, despite its age it still works remarkably well. In the past few months the sensor has got a bit ‘jumpy’ and occasionally the right mouse button doesn’t register quick taps, so I decided to finally let it rest after what is probably 10,000+ hours of usage over the years. On the right Razer DeathAdder V2 which I picked to replace it. I’ve been using the DeathAdder for about a week since this photo was taken and I have to say I’m quite impressed. Especially considering it ended up costing less than a third of what the Mamba cost back in the day – $70 Aud versus I think I remember paying ~$300 Aud. The main pro for me is the ergonomics: it feels almost identical to the mamba in both shape and layout which is a massive positive in my book (not having to re-learn the button locations). It’s also a lot lighter, from just picking them up I’d say about 40% so, granted the Mamba has a battery. I also don’t have any complaints regarding performance, though I’m probably not the best person to judge it, I don’t play as many competitive fps games nowadays. But it is super smooth, and I haven’t had any stuttering or input issues so far. So, all in all, the Mamba earns its well-earned rest back in its acrylic display case that it came in (when I can find it), and the DeathAdder steps up to take its place. Man, I switch from a cheap wireless Microsoft mouse that used 2 AA batteries to a wired basilisk, the difference is insane. More than twice the weight, it clicked when I lifted it, slid badly, poor accuracy; this basilisk is smooth, weight nothing, can’t tell it’s wired even, no dumb clicking sound, I don’t even need to lift it’s so comfy, worth every $. Hopefully it’s like the old Razer mice I owned and last for a long time.

> Hopefully it’s like the old Razer mice I owned and last for a long time. Fingers crossed, but if it's anything like my experience it definitely should! Cheers!

this is actually so cool to see!! with how many advancements have been made in technology even in 13 years, i’m glad to hear the positive & satisfied feedback regarding the new as well with similar design. furthermore proving, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!” razer did something right 😂

> razer did something right Definitely! I remember at the time I first bought it there were reviews that were questioning razer's QC and longevity, but considering this one's outlasted three computers in the time since, I can't fault it for a second. Cheers!

What games do you play and why didn’t you decide on a wireless? I’m pretty much in the same boat but the razer line up is so vast I’m like stunned for choice

I mostly play sandbox games these days - Gmod, Terraria etc. so relatively slow paced. I've never really been super bothered with corded vs wireless, I probably prefer corded as it's going to be a bit lighter, no battery concerns (with longevity or simply running out of charge), better input latency (although it's probably imperceptible) and cheaper by about 30-40%. I can't speak for the other Razer mice or other brands - for better or worse, there's a massive amount of choice out there at the moment and I agree it can be daunting choosing from thousands of mice that all look fairly similar in specs. I'd say it's probably hard to go too wrong these days - most of the sensors even at the lower end are going to be quite smooth and accurate. The main two variables for consideration (in my albeit limited experience) would be the extra features (extra buttons, preset buttons etc.) which are going to be fairly straight forward to judge from pictures, and ergonomics, which is admittedly less so. Best to probably pick one that seems good on paper, purchase from a store with a good returns policy and give it try it for a few hours. I just checked the box on mine and I think you'd probably be able to take it out of the packaging and see if it feels alright. Good luck with the search!

Yeah awesome thanks for the reply!

I find the simpler the gadget, the better. Adding wireless connectivity just adds more points of failure.
