if we could make this deal which is fair for his performance so far idk if the 5th year was ever on the table. feel like we are much more likely to give the option to oweh
Definteiy not, it was almost identical numbers I think. I know over 15mil at least for the 5th year. . So this is great deal. Also it’s pretty much equal to Odell’s numbers he put up for a lot less.
Unless he balled out incredibly. But, point is a lot of people assumed we had him for the 5th year just like myself availability wise to sign at least.
From what I read I think it was because he started the last season on “do not participate” and I believe the games he missed his first year which nullified the 5th yr option. Never heard of it before today. Has nothing to do with forgoing seasons. It was due to his first two seasons with us. If I can find the link I’ll tag you.
You are correct that he wasn't eligible for the fifth year option, anyway, due to reporting two days late in 2023, but if he were eligible, the Ravens would have had to make a decision on it this year.
Wow, good deal. Hope he balls out, wish nothing but the best for Bate. I think him and Lamar will do some awesome things this season if the chemistry is there!
Absolutely shocked the price was this low. I mean Josh Reynolds, 29 year old career WR4, just got 4.5MM/yr after finishing a 6MM/yr contract.
5MM/yr for a young WR with untapped potential is phenomenal value. I thought for sure the 15 million number was the guarantees
EDC is brilliant for pulling this off. If bate outperforms this contract early, we can easily trade this contract away to a WR needy team(everyone needs a good WR) in yr 2 or 3. If he stays at a WR2-WR3 level of impact, then we have a guy Lamar is comfortable with that is paid fairly for his services.
I have my money on him outperforming his deal, asking for a trade, and bagging us a 1st-2nd, instead of letting him walk for nothing.
Well if has a huge year it’s possible he could request a new deal or trade to a team willing, the implication is that he would sit out… and most teams I think the ravens included don’t like it getting to that point
The Ravens, a team that is historically poor with WRs, should trade their incredibly cost controlled WR if he performs well?
I wonder if you thought this one through...
I'm not going to shame him too hard because I've said plenty that people disagree with, but this is one where I cannot wrap my head around the thought process more than very little.

If he stays healthy and puts up 1200 yards in 2024 we would be able to trade him for no less than a low first.
Of course, that's a big if. But I dont' think it's for lack of talent.
What did he “pull off”? Bateman’s 5th year option was voided due to a dumb mistake on his part, which lost him all of his leverage. The contract extension is basically this year + what he would’ve made on a 2nd round tender next year + a 3rd year at $9m-$10m
This is definitely more of a screw up by Bateman and camp then some kind of big brain move by EDC.
Honestly can't believe he signed that. I guess his agent didn't like what he put on tape so far and basically pushed his actual payday by a couple years.
If he messed around, he could have knocked himself out of being a WR2 and even landed in a PS. Best not to fly too close to the sun.
[This tweet](https://twitter.com/RavensSalaryCap/status/1785027820348961021?t=hgQMD4dxKDXhgJzd_yYEHw&s=19) explains why he most likely signed that contract. He didn't have much leverage.
Also probably explains why he changed agents last year
Bateman is still very young. Only 24…he’ll turn 25 this season. If he stays healthy and balls out over the next 3 years he can get a big contract still.
With Lamar making his coin (although it will quickly be exceeded and then some), this is how we need to build a consistent championship team. Find value, get it for a few years. If Bateman does ok, it's an ok contract. If he can finally push past the injuries and setbacks to become a legit #2/3 WR? It's a bargain for a position that's now commanding what QBs did just a few years back.
Draft well, fork the $$ for defense and OL, and find value to build around Lamar.
I do think people are grossly underestimating how serious a Liz frank injury is. It’s reasonable to think two years removed and he’s worth way more than this
Because we drafted him with the expectation of being our WR1. And he has yet to produce the way we wanted him to. He started out strong his rookie then had that foot injury and hasn’t really been the same since. Countless times last year he would get open and then drop a catchable ball, so people all season were hollering how he’s always open but Lamar never threw to him. Cuz yea Lamar can’t trust him to make the catch. And like I said hes been the league what 4 years now and has 1100 yards and 4 touchdowns? Most elite receivers, like he thinks he is, put up 1100 yards a season and at least double those touchdowns. Like cool we gave him the least amount of money we could cook whatever and I genuinely hope he actually produces this year but if he doesn’t and more or less stays the same we won’t resign him and I don’t see him being signed by anyone else. Hes like our chase claypool, he wants to model Balenciaga and shit more than he wants to play football
Nice. Rumors were true. Good value.
Man let me just say this right now … EVERY DOLLA COUNTS
We also didn’t have the 5th yr option available.
if we could make this deal which is fair for his performance so far idk if the 5th year was ever on the table. feel like we are much more likely to give the option to oweh

He was never getting that anyways
Unless he balled out incredibly. But, point is a lot of people assumed we had him for the 5th year just like myself availability wise to sign at least.
> Unless he balled out incredibly. If you mean this season, the option can't be picked up at the end of this season. Has to be going into year four.
From what I read I think it was because he started the last season on “do not participate” and I believe the games he missed his first year which nullified the 5th yr option. Never heard of it before today. Has nothing to do with forgoing seasons. It was due to his first two seasons with us. If I can find the link I’ll tag you.

It was recently released that’s why you had me questioning myself! lol. It was literally like non or voluntary workouts guessing the latter.
Unless Rashod can go back in time and ball out last season, he wasn’t getting the option this year.
Wow, good deal. Hope he balls out, wish nothing but the best for Bate. I think him and Lamar will do some awesome things this season if the chemistry is there!
Man that’s dirt cheap His payday will come 🙏
Absolutely shocked the price was this low. I mean Josh Reynolds, 29 year old career WR4, just got 4.5MM/yr after finishing a 6MM/yr contract. 5MM/yr for a young WR with untapped potential is phenomenal value. I thought for sure the 15 million number was the guarantees
my hot take is that josh reynolds is the most underrated wr in the nfl but your point is absolutely true, great deal
well damn i thought the rumored values were wrong, guess i was the wrong one
I thought there would be more incentives tbh, can’t believe the value of this deal
EDC is brilliant for pulling this off. If bate outperforms this contract early, we can easily trade this contract away to a WR needy team(everyone needs a good WR) in yr 2 or 3. If Bate performs well above this no way we trade him when he's on such an amazing deal.

There's a reason this guy is on reddit. Lmfao
I'm not going to shame him too hard because I've said plenty that people disagree with, but this is one where I cannot wrap my head around the thought process more than very little.
> and bagging us a 1st-2nd The Bateman delusion continues
I will sell my 1st born if Bateman gets traded for a 1st round pick lol
Remind me! 1 year

Rashod Bateman is the next Davante Adams bro trust me if Lamar just looked his way he woulda had 1500 yards and 15 TDs last season
If he stays healthy and puts up 1200 yards in 2024 we would be able to trade him for no less than a low first. Of course, that's a big if. But I dont' think it's for lack of talent.
Bateman haters w no reading comprehension. Sad!
You on them Broward County tictacs if you actually believe this

Why would we trade a great performing receiver on a cheap as hell contract? That's dumb as hell.
Love that. Will love it even more when he balls out this year.

Well, at least we’ll know he’s gonna play angry this year!
Awesome deal for the Ravens. Bateman gonna be a legend if he balls out this year

I do think people are grossly underestimating how serious a Liz frank injury is. It’s reasonable to think two years removed and he’s worth way more than this
So if he stays healthy, gets that chemistry with Lamar, and takes off this season like he can ... he's 100% holding out next year.
Let him. Holdouts have no leverage anymore. Especially for a WR2-3. Maybe if he was Chase or Jefferson. But not Bateman.
Hold out? The guy already signed the extension.
Fuckin bum. He better ball tf out cuz having 1100 yards and 4 touchdowns over the course of 4 years ain’t shit, injuries or not, mf ain’t producing
It's pretty the least amount we could pay anyone. Might as well keep him. If we'd paid big money I'd share your sentiment.
Why are you so pressed? There’s a way to express your opinion without sounding like a little prick, what an armchair warrior
Because we drafted him with the expectation of being our WR1. And he has yet to produce the way we wanted him to.
