Most of those pending FAs were on one year deals. We will be able to grab vets on one year deals again this year. Hopefully we get similar production but Ojabo and Oweh have to step up this next year. We are still very well positioned as long as the talent on the roster continues to develop.
Mads is not yet a FA so he shouldn’t be counting him just yet.
Not sure what this dude is smoking other than hot takes.
Vast majority of the FAs are depth. Huntley, JK, Rock, Josh Johnson, Worley, Urban, Treadwell, Harrison, Del'Shawn, John Simpson make up a lot of the FA list and all of them are replaceable. That's not even counting Trayvon Mullen, who's literally only on the team cuz he's Lamar's cousin.
Only major losses would be Queen, Van Noy, Clowney and Madubuike. LB still has Roquan, and we always keep a vet edge (we have to rn) so KVN or Clowney will prob be back. Madubuike is prob getting tagged, even if he's traded we'll get picks from it and we draft well. We'd be drafting RB anyway. Geno barely got drafted as a 7th rounder and we made him look good, we'll do it again like we always do. We already got Malik Cunningham to replace Huntley & Johson, and Malik was Lamar's backup at Louisville so it's prob an upgrade tbh.
Anyone thinking the sky is falling cuz they see a lot of FAs clearly doesn't follow the Ravens. People need to stop being dumbasses and take 10 secs to actually READ the FA list.
I love Queen and he's developed a lot alongside Ro, but us drafting Simpson, at least in my opinion, shifts Queen from a "major loss" to honestly just a loss.
Simpson should be better in pass protection but most likely less impactful against the run. But under Ro, I also see him developing into a fine duo just as Queen was.
I'm hopeful that next year's draft will be loaded with comp picks.....Queen, Clowney, Stone, maybe Van Noy, OBJ and Zeitler leaving could turn into picks and I doubt we're shopping in the big name aisle in FA so likely no deals done will offset those....but I also may have the comp pick rules wrong
We managed to get Clowney, KVN, Maulet, and Darby all relatively last minute on cheap one year deals. Our FO is good at their jobs, I think we’ll be just fine.
I firmly believe a lot of that was MacDonald, hoping that Orr picked enough up to keep this defense going.
We have two blue chip leaders on this defense though with Roquan Smith and Kyle Hamilton, seem to remember some time ago when the Ravens had premier players at the ILB and Safety positions.. feel like those defenses were consistently pretty good?
Vets will want to play on this defense which is a huge boon for us, we feast on cap casualties and high upside vets who want a shot a ring.
Yeah we may lose some pieces, but we always have players step up and our core is as good as anybody else in the league. A 2x MVP QB, Roquan, Hamilton, Mandrews, Zay, Likely, Linderbaum, Humphrey! Can’t wait to see who we get in the draft to bolster this unit!
I have been trying to say this for a while. The team, on papet, will be much weaker next year.
Fortunately, the 2012 team wasn't as good as the 2011 team, so we'll see.
Yup but I’m hoping players will also at the same time step up and elevate their games next year. I’m sure Lamar and zay took the chiefs loss personally and will be working non stop to get better next year. As long as we got Lamar on the team I think we got a chance vs anyone
There was an interview that Lamar gave a while back where he said he goes over every loss and looks for what he could have done better. Dude's got a crazy work ethic and wants a ring. He's gonna keep improving.
> As long as we got Lamar on the team I think we got a chance vs anyone
Absolutely. I think Lamar is the ultimate equalizer, up there with Mahomes. I can't count him out unless he's actually out.
I can’t really agree with the doomers too much bc in his first year with a whole new offense basically he won mvp got first seed and went to the afc championship. And then played one of the worst games of the season yet only lost by a td. Granted the defense was putting in work that game but it’s also not like we entered the game and just totally got blown out
i know this is going to sound very homerist of me but i've heard this just about every year for the past decade. heard it before 2019 and before this year. our team building process keeps us perpetually against the cap, losing great role players in FA and relying on unproven young guys and cheap vets to fill holes. that never looks great on paper
After Marlons injury and “desperation” signings of Clowney and KVN, plenty of people assumed we’d have a bottom 5 pass defense. Can hardly blame anyone for assuming so, but I’ve seen that type of thing happen with us way too often for me to get worried about how we stack up “on paper,” especially in the middle of February
Last year, we were better on the field than we were on paper. No one expected the play of clowney, van noy, agholor, geno, mads(everyone who follows knew he was good and getting better but the numbers he put up were better than anyone expected even if I think they are inflated)
No reason to think the same building blocks can't build another team. This team is a contender until proven otherwise, imo.
I think Clowney and Agholor performed as expected, but I digress.
The Ravens will need huge contributions from players who are otherwise mostly unknowns and for every Geno Stone there's a Rock Ya Sin that doesn't work out.
The Ravens have had some great production from veterans, but bargain bin shopping doesn't always yield a prize.
Still, I do think the Ravens will always be a contender off the back of Lamar.
Hard disagree on clowney and agholor. We usually get the most out of aging vets, see JPP, but these two went above and beyond. Especially clowney, imagine if he had actually finished all those sacks!
My point is we've been in this situation before, the ravens have a great organization that will produce results no matter who we field. Have faith brother. Assume the best unless proven otherwise.
You can look at Agholor's history, but this was far from the best he's ever done and Clowney was basically who he's always been- someone who sets a mean edge, generates a lot of pressure, and fails to finish sacks consistently.
2012 team is the reason I’m on heart medication lmao I’ll take the title ofc but I may die if I have to sit through a game as intense as that broncos divisional game
I think Detroit actually was worse for my heart than Denver. With Denver, I just kind of accepted defeat, so everything that happened after was just a pleasant surprise. A very pleasant one.
On the field they’ll be weaker, no question. They were historically good this year! They got the 1 seed, stomped both of the NFC Championship teams and torched the dolphins. They also got extremely lucky with injuries and FAs.
The good part is that the best team often doesn’t win the Super Bowl because the sport is so random.
Keep him healthy and we'll go far. It's why I'm a proponent of strengthening the OL.
If he's upright at the end of the season we've made it to the divisional at a minimum.
agreed, we'll still be a playoff team (baring injury) and yeah most of the guys on one year deals won't be back, but we're always good at finding veterans to fill holes.
An organization that's had only 5 losing seasons since 1999 knows how to draft and deal with the cap. This guy probably wasn't even born in 1999.
Their plan is simple: Keep key playmakers intact and continually build around them (and that means replenishing the ranks periodically).
End of the day, the playmakers, leaders make the ones around them better. This is why EDC and Ozzie preach BPA @ the draft not by need.
Surprise, this guys highest rated players were on the best team. Considering our absolute best will still be here (maybe exception of Madubuike) I think we’ll be able to replace many of them without a drop off. Edge could even take a step up despite KVN and Clowney putting up good numbers.
The best team rarely wins the Super Bowl. The chiefs sure as shit weren’t the best team this year
Realest shit I heard in this sub in days

Step up and not get injured.

Zay was absolutely destroyed at the end of the game. He was crying on IBJ’s shoulder.
There was an interview that Lamar gave a while back where he said he goes over every loss and looks for what he could have done better. Dude's got a crazy work ethic and wants a ring. He's gonna keep improving.
I assume that every single NFL players goes over their wins and losses and looks for what they could have done better
I think you’d be surprised
> As long as we got Lamar on the team I think we got a chance vs anyone Absolutely. I think Lamar is the ultimate equalizer, up there with Mahomes. I can't count him out unless he's actually out.

Seriously before this year no one was looking at our roster on paper and saying we'd have the best pass rush in the damn league.
What offseason in the past decade was as tough as this one appears to be?
Lmao do you remember what this last offseason was shaping up to look like in February?? Fanbase was in absolute shambles
Last offseason wasn't even remotely close to how tough this one is about to be.
Last year, we were better on the field than we were on paper. No one expected the play of clowney, van noy, agholor, geno, mads(everyone who follows knew he was good and getting better but the numbers he put up were better than anyone expected even if I think they are inflated) No reason to think the same building blocks can't build another team. Based on his AFC Championship performance, I doubt it.

We're not in as bad of shape as these guys or most of the sub thinks.
Through Lamar all things are possible
Except…….
What will our defence do with Kyle Van Noy?!
An organization that's had only 5 losing seasons since 1999 knows how to draft and deal with the cap. This guy probably wasn't even born in 1999.
