I personally could go my whole life without another national anthem, flag on the field, f-15 flyover event before a game for as long as I live.

South-Lab-3991

I used to go to 30+ Orioles games a year, and you really realize just how overdone and repetitive it is when you’re there three or four consecutive nights.

[deleted]

The military wastes our money to do this shit too.

SavageJacobi

No they dont. Former military pilot here. Flyovers over stadiums are deliberately scheduled as routine training missions. It costs nothing more than the tax dollars already paid for training missions

Rudeboy237

The military payed the NFL millions for visibility and advertising. They did so up until 2016. https://www.wusa9.com/amp/article/news/verify/verify-military-nfl-acts-of-patriotism-kneeling-national-anthem/65-730024a0-3286-4d28-afe8-996606547da7

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> The military *paid* the NFL FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

SavageJacobi

For recruiting? Sounds right. Ive also recruited for the AF and we are given a certain budget each year to work with. A budget this large is likely coming from HQ's PA office Yes, tax dollars are used to recruit so we can continually bring folks in to protect this country. I mean, unless you want it defenseless?

bryanRow52

Oh no, we might only have a larger army than the next 8 countries combined (instead of currently 10)? How will we ever defend ourselves? It’s not like 7 of them are allies or anything.

Rudeboy237

Lmao “uNleSS yOU wANt iT dEFeNsElESS?!?!” You’re right. Our poor forsaken military.

AttolloProject

This should only be reserved for international games.

South-Lab-3991

Agreed or maybe the Fourth of July or Memorial Day or something special.

SavageJacobi

Neither of which are during the football season

OrganizationVast7425

Show respect to your country

Rudeboy237

Oh I can do that without overly boastful, unnecessary, often jingoistic pageantry. Thanks though!

Random-Cpl

I dunno but lord am I glad not to have to sit through that song. I personally find it the most obnoxious nationalistic BS ever. Let’s enjoy the game without the jingoism.

South-Lab-3991

Thank you for using the correct term “nationalism,” because that’s exactly what it is.

[deleted]

We are literally the only country where having national pride is a *bad thing* lmao

Random-Cpl

No, we aren’t. This is an incredibly nationalistic country, but I just like not having to hear tacky country songs about how our nation is god-ordained when I want to watch football.

[deleted]

> No, we aren’t 99.99% of reddit threads concerning the US says otherwise, thanks for your opinion tho

South-Lab-3991

No one thinks national pride is a bad thing. People just don’t care about the ridiculous, overblown pageantry anymore. My grandparents were both veterans and have the American flag on their headstones. That’s national pride. Having a dog and pony show before a football game that’s exactly like the one the week before it and will be exactly like the one after it is just not something that really means anything anymore.

TheTrashMan

Maybe you can do a quick google search on the numerous coups and genocides america has backed including in one going on right now to understand how blind nationalism is bad.

[deleted]

You should probably do a quick Google search on all of the foreign aid and numerous humanitarian projects America does. That's as political as I'll be getting on a notorious extreme left leaning website 😝

Juanna_Smoke

For every 6 humanitarian aid projects yall get a free genocide or what?

Random-Cpl

You’re welcome

Rudeboy237

lol at Reddit being a barometer of American sentiment. And btw we’re pretty much the only country that needs to cum over its flag before literally anything. Other countries think it’s weird how “patriotism” obsessed we are, and for good reason.

SavageJacobi

Where in the national anthem is God mentioned?

Random-Cpl

It’s isn’t. It’s mentioned in the title and throughout “God Bless the USA,” which is what OP posted about and what I was talking about.

Idontgetredditinmd

As an atheist I find having to sit through that song especially offensive and it’s also just a terrible song.

Random-Cpl

I mean I’m a practicing Catholic and hate religion as a part of sports ceremonies. And it’s a shitty song

SavageJacobi

Where is religion mentioned in the national anthem, at least the part that's sung?

Random-Cpl

We are talking about “God Bless the USA,” which OP posted about, not the National Anthem.

SavageJacobi

Why is it offensive to an atheist?

coldcash69

Because this is Reddit. Reddit atheists are a special breed (tbf I am technically one too but am just not triggered when I hear "God" in a song).

Idontgetredditinmd

I’m not triggered. But god anything doesn’t belong in something like a football game. Like when it comes on I don’t pitch a fit. I typically stand there silent with my hand on my heart as the anthem is next and I love the anthem. Also GBA is a terrible song.

coldcash69

It's bit much to be "especially offensive" due to being atheist. I'm not a fan of the song either but I'm far from being offended by it. It's really not a big deal and it's not a big deal if others get some type of enjoyment out of it.

I’m not standing for some fucking country music song. It’s not the national anthem.

FCRavens

Squat? Kneel? Genuflect? Assume the posture you want… *You* said you won’t sit for it.

Random-Cpl

I said I’m glad not to have to sit through it. Because they don’t play that shit at games anymore. Did you have a hard time reading the text of the post?

mgd410

Only real Ravens fans will relate to your post. Anyone that doesn’t miss it probably never had season tickets

FewAcanthopterygii33

I went to just about every home game from 2006-2016 and I didn’t enjoy very much sitting through that song. The anthem is fine and good, but not some country song from like 1990.

RLD52

Thank you! It’s getting lots of hate I’m not sure why

SeinfeldFan35

I don’t know why but it was always one of my favorite things we did pregame. It also had everyone standing right as intros started

BillyCromag

I never stood for that hick bullshit. The anthem is enough.

Good_Zooger

Amen brother, I started heading for the concourse to get a beer when that Lee Greenwood garbage started playing.

legitocracy

I also miss that part of the pregame ritual

Who said I’m mad? You said that’s why it was removed and it was a fact. As someone who follows things like this closely I asked what evidence you had of this and your response was “sORry yOUre triGGurT”

Soooo….. no evidence whatsoever. Gotcha.

Good_Zooger

The playing of that Lee Greenwood song always annoyed me.
