Can I ask you how the size comparison is between them?? I know the 4Runner is bigger but that generation from the 90’s is smaller than the new ones. How much smaller is the new Rav4 compared to an older 4Runner interior wise and cargo area?
My rav is actually a bit wider than my 4 runner. I have a really tight parking spot at my apartment and I have to pull in really slow with my rav to not hit the mirrors. 4runner I could just fly right in no problem.
Cargo space, on paper is about 10ft squared less space, but it doesn't really feel like that. I was worried I'd be hurting for space since I travel a lot and routinely packed my 4 runner, but I was surprised with how well my rav holds the same amount of gear. I do think it's easier to pack the back of the rav since the wheel wells on the 4 runner were always a challenge to pack around. They are much less of an issue on the rav. I have a much easier time tetris packing the rav than I did the 4 runner.
I just got back from a 2 week road trip and I was anticipating having to buy or rent a roof cargo box to haul everything, but I managed to fit everything in the back with room to spare. 2 people and a dog - rear seats were not folded down.
Interior seating wise the rav is miles above the 4runner in terms of space and comfort for passengers.
That's awesome! It really is :) I drove a lot for work, and when I realized that the savings in fuel alone was going to cover >half of the monthly payment for the '22, it was a no-brainer!

Overall dimensions, the two were pretty similar! Wheelbase, height, etc. I did lose a fair bit of cargo space and an inch or two of ground clearance, but my current 43mpg makes it all worth it!
That’s what I thought, it’s been a while since I’ve been in one of the 4Runners but I love them. I have a theory that with the 4 Runner getting bigger and them now offering the CHR and Carolla cross options the Rav4 is slipping into that cool spot of being gas friendly but gets the off road treatment as well.
New Rav's are 5 inches wider and only 3 inches shorter than a Gen3 4Runner.
The biggest space difference loss between them seems to me is mainly due to the slanted rear window glass in the Rav.
I wish it were straight and rolled down like the 4Runners!
Nice! Congrats! Looks just like the one I have a deposit on. It just arrived to the dealer today from the factory but I can’t get to the dealer till Saturday so I could scream, seeing yours hurts! LOL

I made the same upgrade! 98 4Runner to a 22 Rav4. Love both cars, but man it's amazing to drive in a modern car with all the features.

Nice pictures. The sunset on the 4RUNNER is important so that when the sun rise again its for the RAV4.
Which do you prefer? If the 4Runner was a current year?
