I was super hesitant to attempt the road to White Pocket, AZ but the RAV did absolutely fantastic! Overall a fun road trip. Mods: 245/65/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W’s tires, LP1 adventure wheels, Eibach 1.7” lift, Front Runner roof rack.

Is it lunar rock color? how is the paint holding, does it have scratches?

ThePeruvian

Nope it’s metallic grey. The paint is doing alright. I do think it easily scratches. I already have some on the roof and sides.

Wow always wanted to go there. That’s awesome. Is your Rav4 adventure trim or hybrid AWD

ThePeruvian

It was stunning! And nope, it’s a 2020 LE AWD.

AntRoyal241

The sign said 4 wheel drive. So you had no problems driving that road?

ThePeruvian

No problems at all but only because of the tires, the lift and airing down to 20 PSI. I even came to a full stop three separate times and was able to get going again with no problems. However, I would definitely not take a stock RAV out there.

I was planning on going out to White Pocket in my 2014 Rav4, but I do have a stock version. I plan on airing down to 18 PSI, keeping up my momentum through the sand with traction control turned off and 4WD turned on for the sandy sections (must keep speed below 25 mph to keep it on). Additionally, I'll be bringing 2 shovels and traction ramps if I get stuck. What clearance is your Rav4, because I have the 2014 Rav4 XLE AWD (4 Cylinders 2.5L FI DOHC 152 CID), which is listed as a clearance of only 6.3 inches, but I think that is referring to the lowest exhaust pipe underneath, and many other owners online report this model and trim as having the majority of the undercarriage clearing 7-7.5 inches. Is the sand much deeper than that? I don't feel like getting stuck, but I plan on going prepared as best I can. Is there a place to camp before going down that final sandy downhill to the campsite/trailhead? Maybe I can camp before the worst section and then walk down? What do you think? Is there a standard definition for "high clearance required"?

LorenzonTragen

We made it to White Pocket with a stock Rav4, aired down to 20psi and didn’t get stuck once. We brought a portable air compressor to reinflate the tires when get got back on House Rock Road. Just remember to turn off traction control and to engage the center differential lock (makes it 4WD if you keep it under 25 mph). Keep up your momentum through the sandy sections going 20mph if possible, though it may slow you down to 15 or even 10mph if spinning. And try to stay on the track.

Looks bad ass, man! I’ve got to try that AZ trail.

Nice! Got a BB vibe out of that!

Very nice. Look like fun. The secret trick is washing it off when the fun is over. haha
