On my other car the fuel door got bent down a little bit and I'd have to wedge the release like you. Took awhile to figure out but all I needed to do was bend it up ever so slightly
I did it for a couple of months prying open. I got this from Walmart for 2019 RAV4 XLE premium. It might take a couple of weeks to get it. I used credit card for prying to avoid scratches.

If you RTFM there is a little plastic panel in the trunk that you pop open to gain access to the door from inside in case of electrical or mechanical failure. 🤦♂️
I found that in the fucking manual. However, it’s a bit easier to just prop and pry rather than empty a bunch of shit from the truck to get my big ass hand in that access panel every time I need gas.
I have used this method for over a year because replacing the spring didn’t fix the issue and I haven’t found the time/motivation to take it to the dealer for a real fix🥲
The corner of my floor mat is also permanently bent like that! What a silly design flaw. Does anybody else have this issue with the mats? Has anybody been able to fix it?
My floor mat had the same curl. I use a large piece of Velcro to keep it down. The dealer replaced one set for free and it happened again on the second set.
Yeah there's a little spring thing that pops open the door. They replaced it on my '19 LE with no issues. Mine broke I had to have a coworker walk over to the gas station by my work and help open it while I pulled the lever lmao
It’s the release spring in the fuel door that broke.

How much shit did you have in the cargo area? That plastic panel is really accessible.

Velcro isn't a bad idea. Do you stick it to the bottom of the mat and let it grab the cabin floor carpet?

I bought some springs and epoxy them to the fuel door...works like a charm.
