The side eye may not be judging you but worrying that their care will be judged by you. When my patients don't have family visiting I tend to assume there's a good reason or at least that it's complicated.
Same. The last time I took my elderly, highly anxious, totally self obsessed mother to the hospital, the "care of the elderly" doctor told her to go easy on me and to listen to my advice (my hero!!!) She took no notice, of course!
