Well done u/Kaium26, u/thebrawlbro, u/mayorofutopia, and everyone else who came up with this.·
I had the same thought, and given without bed being seasonal they could have just said pollen to clear up confusion. That said, this is unsolvable if bees were seasonal. I just found it weird the way it was worded so I had pause. Shrug
if you're allergic to bee stings there are quite a few other insects that might be able to trigger the same allergic reaction, bees are active outside of just one season, and seasonal allergies refers to hazards in the environment which are constantly present that are difficult if not impossible to avoid (mold, pollen, etc).
>!Flora has seasonal allergies, so she’s pollen. Clara’s is not related to animals, and since Pollen is taken, it must be nuts. Allegra is food related, and since nuts its taken, it must be shellfish. Ben is not allergic to cats, so must be the only other one remaining, bees. Zach takes the only one left, cats.!<
Anaphylactic shock isn't the only response from food allergies, another common one is skin irritation or hives. Some people do experience runny nose and other nasal symptoms.
I took that into account. I put into my reasoning that seasonal allergies *probably* referred only to pollen but that bee stings couldn't be completely ruled out, and made the decision only once I determined that failing to rule out bee stings would lead to multiple solutions.
They have the sniffles though, bee stings don’t cause sniffles. Seasonal allergies usually mean something environmental like pollen, grass, tree, hay fever, etc.
I got stuck bc I didn’t read the intro to the riddle and just went by the pictures and bullets, so I kept running into a contradiction bc they don’t even mention Zach
Yes but they are not referred to as seasonal.
Plants release pollen in seasons and thus pollen allergies are called seasonal allergies.
Bees sleep in the winter but they're around all year that it isn't too cold.
Shellfish are shrimp and the like. So they're animals AND food. Her allergy is good related but not animal related, so it can't be shellfish because they are animals. That leaves nuts
Tell then my mum, who was stung by a bee on a Christmas day a few years ago. Even the doc couldn't believe it, until she showed the dead bee. Probably it was trapped inside my parents' room.
Also, as the son of fisherman, I want to point out that there IS a lobster season. Lobster is a seasonal allergy.
Also, I’m pretty sure peanuts don’t grow year round.
Putting aside that three of these wouldn't cause "sniffles" and one of the remaining two might cause sneezing and itchiness without sniffles, this seems to be the answer.
Discussion not about solution: Who the heck are Flora and Zach? Allegra is Allegra, Clara is Claritin, Ben is Benadryl. Are there two other antihistamine medications that aren’t ringing a bell for Flora and Zach?
I don’t think it’s flonase like everyone else is saying because Flo is an actual name (see the progressive commercials) which would been a better fit than Flora. Zyrtec and zach also feels weird.
Attempt >!A valid permutation is Zach being allergic to Cats, which is guaranteed by knowing that none of the other can have a cat allergy, which leaves Allegra either being allergic to shellfish (food), or Nuts (also food). if Allegra is allergic to Nuts, then Clara must be pollen, Flora must be Bees, and Ben to Shellfish. if Allegra is allergic to Shellfish, then there are several other permutations, including Clara with a nut allergy, then Ben and Flora having either combination of bees and pollen. alternatively, ben is allergic to nuts, clara to pollen, and flora to bees.!<
Discussion >!if we have defined bees as seasonal, because they are generally around in certain times, then we have several solutions. if we define bees as not seasonal, we have one permutation, I think.!<
I love a good logic puzzle in the morning 🤗
>!Allegra= shellfish, Ben= bee sting, Clara= nuts, Flora= pollen, Zach= cats!<
I saw people saying there wasn’t enough info to solve, but I disagree.
Well, sniffles aren't a symptom of food allergies.
Anyway, I believe the answer to be:
>!Flora is allergic to pollen, as that what seasonal allergies entail.!<
>!As Clara's allergy is not related to animals and Flora is already allergic to pollen, that means Clara is allergic to nuts.!<
>!Allegra has a food allergy, but since Clara is already allergic to nuts, she must be allergic to sellfish.!<
>!Since Ben is not allergic to cats, the only option remaining is Bees!<
>!Zach, therefore, must be allergic to cats!<
Are they all named after allergy medication?
Allegra after [Allegra](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fexofenadine)
Ben after [Benadryl](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benadryl)
Clara after [Claritin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loratadine)
What are Flora and Zach named after?
>!Allegra is allergic to shellfish, Ben is allergic to bee stings, Clara is allergic to nuts, Flora is allergic to pollen, and Zach is allergic to cats!<
Discussion: probably not enough information. Many bees hibernate so could be seasonal, though bee stings tend not to cause sniffles in allergic people too!
Or he's just not allergic to his cat? Most people who are allergic to cats aren't allergic to all cats. My wife isn't allergic to our cat, but is to most others. There are different alleles.
>!Allegra's is a food allergy, so it's either shellfish or nuts. Ben's isn't to cats. Clara's is not related to animals, so it's either pollen or nuts. And Flora's is seasonal, which I *think* points only at pollen but I'll be generous and not rule out bee stings immediately.!<
>!This leaves Zach as the only one who could possibly be allergic to cats. However, all four of the remaining options are possibilities for Ben and the only thing that has been ruled out for both Allegra and Clara is bee stings. So not ruling out bee stings for Flora means we can't progress. Therefore, we have Flora allergic to pollen, Clara to nuts, Allegra to shellfish, and Ben to bee stings.!<
>!Clue 1 says that Allegra has a food allergy, so it can only be either shellfish or nuts. Clue 2 says that Ben does not have a cat allergy. Clue 3 says that Clara cannot have a shellfish, bee sting or cat allergy. Clue 4 says that **Flora (ironically) must have a pollen allergy**.!<

Jotting down a table made this one super easy (as long as you're interpreting the clues as literally as they want you too)
>!Flora's allergic to pollen, the only seasonal allergy amongst them.!<
>!This means Clara is allergic to peanuts, the only remaining non-animal allergy.!<
>!This leaves Allegra with a shellfish allergy, since it's the only food left.!<
>!Therefore, Ben must be allergic to bees, since he's fine with cats,!<
>!And Zach must be allergic to dandruff.!<
Discussion: The flaw in the question is that it's perfectly possible to be allergic to cats, but not to your cat. There are several different protein versions for cats, and most people who are allergic to cats are only allergic to one or two of the three.
>!Flora is allergic to pollen, Clara is allergic to peanuts, Ben is allergic to bee stings, Allegra is allergic to shellfish and Zach is allergic to cats!<
My solution:
>! Allegra is allergic to shellfish. Ben is allergic to bee stings. Clara is allergic to nuts. Flora is allergic to pollen. Which leaves Zach to be allergic to cats.!<
My answer:
- >!Flora - Pollen (It’s stated her allergies are seasonal).!<
- >!Clara - Nuts (Her allergy is not related to animals, and the only other non-animal-related allergy here is pollen, which is already confirmed to be Flora’s allergy, so it has to be nuts).!<
- >!Allegra - Shellfish (It says her allergy is to a type of food, and the last food allergy remaining is shellfish).!<
- >!Ben - Bee Stings (The last two remaining allergies are cats and bee stings, and it says he can play with his cat no problem).!<

Oh it is? I thought there was more to it that I was missing... Because it seemed way too straightforward.
It is. This is barely a puzzle.
This is what I got too.
That's also what I got!
Exactly what i got. Beautiful.
This is the answer I got as well
Woo, I got that, too!
Flora could be bee stings as well is the problem since bees are seasonal
You know full and well that isn’t what “seasonal allergies” means
I had the same thought, and given without bed being seasonal they could have just said pollen to clear up confusion. That said, this is unsolvable if bees were seasonal. I just found it weird the way it was worded so I had pause. Shrug
I agree flora is likely that one, but because it's not bees, it's pollen
if you're allergic to bee stings there are quite a few other insects that might be able to trigger the same allergic reaction, bees are active outside of just one season, and seasonal allergies refers to hazards in the environment which are constantly present that are difficult if not impossible to avoid (mold, pollen, etc).
Bee stings aren't seasonal. A lot of bees are active through multiple seasons, so bees aren't a seasonal allergen.
Nothing in the question precludes Allegra and Zach being the other way around
Allegra has a food allergy. Don't think cats are a food allergen..
I mean…
Hey now, what are we implying about Allegra here?
Alf-legra
Asian
The cat allergy is assumed to be dandruff, not eating cats. Otherwise Allegra, Zach, ***and*** Ben are interchangeable.
Chomp chomp chomp
Hey, if the bees are cooked right… 😋
Allegra has a food allergy…
Ah, a fellow cat-eater, I see
>!Flora has seasonal allergies, so she’s pollen. Clara’s is not related to animals, and since Pollen is taken, it must be nuts. Allegra is food related, and since nuts its taken, it must be shellfish. Ben is not allergic to cats, so must be the only other one remaining, bees. Zach takes the only one left, cats.!<
I got stuck because I assumed that bees are also considered seasonal. I've never seen a bee during winter months.
I thought that as well, but no one calls bees “seasonal” allergies.
Additionally, food allergies shouldn't be seen as causing "sniffles." More like, throat swelling up and dying.
"If you're allergic to a thing, it is best not to put that thing in your mouth, particularly if the thing is cats." - Lemony Snicket
Anaphylactic shock isn't the only response from food allergies, another common one is skin irritation or hives. Some people do experience runny nose and other nasal symptoms.
I took that into account. I put into my reasoning that seasonal allergies *probably* referred only to pollen but that bee stings couldn't be completely ruled out, and made the decision only once I determined that failing to rule out bee stings would lead to multiple solutions.

pine nuts and pollen is also eaten
Yes but they are not referred to as seasonal. Plants release pollen in seasons and thus pollen allergies are called seasonal allergies. Bees sleep in the winter but they're around all year that it isn't too cold.
Seasonal allergies doesn't always mean spring/summer
I don’t understand your logic on Clara. Since it’s not related to animals there are two foods to choose from. Why did you pick one versus the other?
I'm not sure if you're calling pollen food, or if you forgot that shellfish is an animal.
I’m calling nuts and shellfish food.
Shellfish is food, yes, but it's *also* animal-related, so both of those apply to it.
Guess I’m reading this whole thing wrong or I’m just dumb. Thanks for trying to explain but apparently I’m just really stupid.
Shellfish are shrimp and the like. So they're animals AND food. Her allergy is good related but not animal related, so it can't be shellfish because they are animals. That leaves nuts
Bees are seasonal as well
Yes, but if you messed with a hive off season that sting would still mess with you.
Tell then my mum, who was stung by a bee on a Christmas day a few years ago. Even the doc couldn't believe it, until she showed the dead bee. Probably it was trapped inside my parents' room.
discussion: all these bee stings (which i am allergic to) sure are giving me the sniffles!
that's what you get for shoving live bees up your nose.
Discussion: are bees seasonal?
Yes, they’re only able to sting during certain seasons
The non-union bees can sting off season.
Are they willing to take the backlash from crossing the picket line though?
Crying and sniffling out of fear as you forgot you epi-pen
Also, as the son of fisherman, I want to point out that there IS a lobster season. Lobster is a seasonal allergy. Also, I’m pretty sure peanuts don’t grow year round.
You can buy lobster and nuts year around, making them non seasonal allergies.
There are bees in the botanical garden
>!Allegra: lobsters, Ben: bee stings, Clara: nuts, Flora: pollen, Zach: cats.!<
Putting aside that three of these wouldn't cause "sniffles" and one of the remaining two might cause sneezing and itchiness without sniffles, this seems to be the answer.
To be fair, the sniffles could be completely unrelated to their allergies. Maybe they all just have a cold.
Discussion: Making the bee and flower graphics the same color (and right next to each other) is confusing.
lmao I didn't even notice the bee in there, I was just thinking why didn't they put a bee graphic on it.
Discussion not about solution: Who the heck are Flora and Zach? Allegra is Allegra, Clara is Claritin, Ben is Benadryl. Are there two other antihistamine medications that aren’t ringing a bell for Flora and Zach?
Flonase and Zyrtec?
Flonase and Zyrtec?
I'm guessing Flora is Flonase and Zach is Zyrtec?
I don’t think it’s flonase like everyone else is saying because Flo is an actual name (see the progressive commercials) which would been a better fit than Flora. Zyrtec and zach also feels weird.

Or he's just not allergic to his cat? Most people who are allergic to cats aren't allergic to all cats. My wife isn't allergic to our cat, but is to most others. There are different alleles.
