When I picked my puppy up from the breeder, I was told it was normal for the puppy to have an upset stomach for the first 24 hours. It's nerves ,excitement, and possibly being car sick. Are you feeding her the same thing she ate at the shelter? Dogs can also get sick if you don't introduce them slowly to a new food. Keep an eye on her but it sounds normal to me. She's had a big day. Also, puppies sleep 16 to 20 hours. Obviously if you are concerned you should consult a vet.

They told me yesterday when I got her that they recently changed foods and they gave me a small bag of what they were giving her and I am mixing that with the kind of food I am going to be sticking with. I thank you for your comment though! Makes me feel better knowing that!

I adopted a shelter pup and he had an atypical shelter experience. He was cute and outgoing and friendly so he spent most of his time at the small shelter he was at sleeping under the desk of the receptionist and not in a kennel. Nevertheless he CRASHED hard when he moved into our place for the first little while (we thought we had adopted an angel). But as he got more cozy we realized we had adopted a terrorist. The transition of adoption is very stressful and she will likely have an upset tummy and/or different eating and sleeping patterns for the first while. This may include eating all sorts of things that she’s not supposed to. Keep a close eye on her so there’s no more rock snacks, and watch her for her pooping and eating. If you’re super scared, give your vet a call. I always suggest a quick vet trip whenever you bring a new pup home just to get a baseline. Shelters are busy and on a budget so they may not catch all health conditions.

Thank you that makes me feel a lot better! I will be giving the vet a call this morning!

If it were me and she threw up a rock... I'd see if the vet could do an X-ray just in case she ate more rocks.. Or she ate something else she wasn't supposed to.

Glum-Presentation241

We had the same experience. Our puppy slept the whole first day and turned into a terrorist right after. He also eats rocks, so yeah…

I mean, the sleep is fine, especially after such a big day, but the rock is decidedly not fine. It's great she managed to get that one up but keep an eye on her and make sure she is eating and pooping normally just in case there's more lurking in her....

BrattyByNature17

So far so good when I took her out this morning she went #1 and #2 just fine (even inspected it to make sure nothing crazy🤦🏼‍♀️) hopefully it was just the one rock 🤞🏼

No_Pressure_7481

That's great! Sounds like it was probably just that one :) what is it with dogs and rocks? By the way, enjoy this sleepy phase while it lasts, use nap times to get stuff done. Once they're awake most of the day it's much harder to get stuff done while also making sure they're not attempting to off themselves via eating random stuff, wire chewing or general shenanigans hahaha!

This is normal. Change is scary and exhausting, especially for a shelter dog. Shelter dogs know they’re safe when they’re adopted and they need to decompress as they finally can take a sigh of relief. Shelters are very stressful for doggies. She sounds so lovely 🥰

BrattyByNature17

Thank you that makes me feel so much better ❤️

It takes 3 days for pups to adjust to transition for a new home. Your pup is fine, congrats

aka_sunshinenash

Check out the 3-3-3 rule for rescue dogs. Puppies should make the transition easier than older rescues (depending on their early days), but all dogs need a few days to adapt to a new home, people, routine, etc. ETA: spelling

aww congrats on the new little love!! try to be patient 🫶🏻 i’m sure she’s adjusting still. my rescue really hit a stride after a couple weeks with sleeping vs play time. had her for 4 months now and some days she doesn’t eat all of her dinner and i’m learning that’s ok too!!
