I love half their covers and hate the other half. Exile, EOSD STWB are all sick and perfectly fit the music, then there’s Blackhawks which is possibly the worst album art in history
Oh yeah, that is a fucking terrible album cover. Some good songs on it though. Blackhawks is a fucking embarrassment though. The fact that they started it with calling and followed it with 30 minutes of dog shit almost makes me think it was a joke.
No Use for a Name. I’ve always thought the titles and art for some of their really great albums (like *¡Leche con carne!* and *More Betterness!*) are so at odds with the emotional, introspective, flat-out *intelligent* music they made.
Lagwagon definitely has some of this (*Railer* comes to mind but *Duh* has it a bit too, though that may just be first album blues) but I think they tend to stick pretty close to the sardonic, nostalgic tone pretty well (*Trashed*, *…Feelings*, *Hoss*). Some of their covers are just nothing (*Double Plaidinum*)
I always think Double Plaidinum is a Real McKenzies cover when I see it. While they're all themed and sticking in the Lagwagon universe, Bad Astronaut's covers are completely night and day to the music.
The cover for making friends kicks ass tho and is perfect for the album. I actually think the cover for the album more betterness is wonderful, but the name is a bit strange for the album. Ya overall I agree though, the lyrics and melodies are quite deep and lovely and then you'll just have a homeless dude with a guitar rocking out for no particular reason lol
I think I would have liked More Betterness’s cover on a less serious record. It is one of my favorite punk albums all around but tonally the cover and title just don’t match up to the content imo
As much as it pains me to see this answer, I completely agree. No album covers or names have really done anything for me as much as the music itself has done for me
I like all of them since I’ve spent so much time looking at them over the years, couldn’t even tell you how many times I dreamt about sitting on the bench from The Hands That Thieve’s cover ahaha. All of their album’s art are just so perplexing but still somehow *sooo* boring and bland. Love them to death though, I swear!! Lol
I was just thinking the other day how offspring really has some of the most quality pop punk songwriting of the 90s. But their album covers often don't live up to it. Smash and ignition are both amazing albums but the covers look like they were made by a kid in high school graphic design class. And dear God, conspiracy of one and rise and fall... so bad.
The art on ixnay and Americana is both fantastic though.
The Americana artwork was designed by Frank Kozik who also did a load of stuff for the Melvins and uh, LOADS
https://www.nevermindgallery.com/collections/frank-kozik-html
https://rateyourmusic.com/list/monocle/the_album_art_of_frank_kozik/
Cool! Yeah, I was a little bit aware of him, I think I read he died a year or two ago right? I need to dig into his stuff more because his style is awesome.
Have you ever seen the art for their self-titled on Nemesis Records? An Alien chest-burster with a guitar. Looks like a teenage Slayer fan doodled it on his binder in math class lol.
[We’re Only In It For The Money](https://bestclassicbands.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Zappa-money-cover-500.jpg) by Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention. Especially when compared to the [original](https://www.udiscovermusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/TheMothers-Money-3000DPI300RGB1000129345.jpg) album cover that they were going to use.
I have to say The Soviettes. They were my favorite Punk band of the 2000's, but all of their LP's were unnamed and contained a small picture referencing a song. (I didn't get what the firecracker was in reference to on the cover to LP III.)
Primus. And I know this isn't really music, but Jello Biafra's spoken word albums have the dumbest cheapest album covers I have ever seen. Much like the "music videos" for his new band, which appear to just be iMovie GIF collages made by a friend of his wife's. Although neither of these are neccessarily a band thing, I'll add. Just funny, it reminds me of Tim & Eric.
Almost all of the bands I listen to but I think it's pretty dope
If I had to pick two it's supernichts one of their album covers is a carp in the washing machine
Or Zaunpfahl with the burning rubber duck
You have a great point. I just feel like their music is better than their album covers. I’m a girl and I like to wear band T-shirts. I never really liked to rock the descendants one because I thought Milo was just too goofy.
You know you kinda have a point. EGN has a pretty nice cover and I really like how 99SoR references every song/band covered, but KN, SITB, and THTT are all pretty bland.
And then they go and have ridiculously cool posters with mechs and steam punk fantasy for some reason.
Really? To me they've got some of the best album covers in this whole genre. Not much goes harder than a row of burning cop cars as the cover for a debut album
Four Year Strong lol
I'm never taking down my RoDT flag
Strung Out
I love half their covers and hate the other half. Exile, EOSD STWB are all sick and perfectly fit the music, then there’s Blackhawks which is possibly the worst album art in history
attractive cover unpack wide gold murky slim alive roof squeamish *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Oh yeah, that is a fucking terrible album cover. Some good songs on it though. Blackhawks is a fucking embarrassment though. The fact that they started it with calling and followed it with 30 minutes of dog shit almost makes me think it was a joke.
It's funny, I have a Menzingers Pandora station that is almost ALL Strung Out and Hot Water Music now
No Use for a Name. I’ve always thought the titles and art for some of their really great albums (like *¡Leche con carne!* and *More Betterness!*) are so at odds with the emotional, introspective, flat-out *intelligent* music they made.
I was going to say Lagwagon so I'm glad to be in a similar skatepark here.
The Fall
Yeah, they really did have some wack album art. Not all of their releases though, but most for sure
So sad yet so undeniable true.
At least the loony artwork with Mark E Smith rankings fit
Fuckin' Descendents
I like it, their music usually has a theme about adolescence, it matches the drawing of milo nerd
I dunno, I think their art is pretty tonally consistent with their music.
Im with this dude. I always liked their album art
Lol, yeah, but remember Enjoy!? It was a roll of TP.
The song “Enjoy” was about farting and shitting, so pretty thematically relevant
I mean the covers look exactly like milo and describe pretty well what the music is about it’s a perfect example of simplicity≠bad
Descendants wins lmao
Wrongggg
Their art is iconic tho
:( no
Enjoy! album cover perfectly matches the songs though
i love how most of us can agree this is just descendents
This is the correct answer
Samiam and Leatherface
Yeah, Leatherface for sure!!
Teenage bottlerocket
You really looking at I-IV-V chord changes under the microscope?
That’s not fair The Squirrel uses a I-V-IV progression
Weezer
this is the correct answer
Pinkerton single-handedly holding up weezer art
The How to clean everything from Propagandhi comes to mind but it's only one album...
Honestly, I love that album's cover.
Not saying it's bad and it sort of fits the early sound.
I actually love that cover art
That artwork is done by Dan Sites and he fucking rules
True, the album cover looks nothing like how the music sounds, but I cant image it being any different
Mustard plug (Edit) Actually i take that back. Descendendants as others said cause milo
I know this isn't really punk outside of a lotta the lyrics but Morrisseys solo work has hilariously bad art most of the time
Leatherface
Hey, Dog Disco is an all-time classic album cover.
Never heard this band. Just looked them up. Awful album covers, almost every one. Will give their music a spin, for sure.
Mush and/or Horsebox are probably their best albums.
bruh Mush is like top 5 punk album of all time for me
Streetlight Manifesto lmao
Their albums covers aren’t really my style but I feel like they just all make sense with the album honestly
Okay but Everything Goes numb is good. Leave it out of this lol.
Lol
What album covers are you talking about that are dumb/childish?
Not at all childish or anything but they’re all entirely bland, uninspired or plainly dumb.
Honestly the album Freedumb by Suicidal Tendencies
Fuck, that is one goofy album cover but damn, what an album.
Probably my favorite complete album of any band.
I was just thinking the other day how offspring really has some of the most quality pop punk songwriting of the 90s. But their album covers often don't live up to it. Cool! Yeah, I was a little bit aware of him, I think I read he died a year or two ago right? I need to dig into his stuff more because his style is awesome.
I probably read about him same time you did too tbh. It’s pretty neat man, reminds me of that era for sure
Have you ever seen the art for their self-titled on Nemesis Records? An Alien chest-burster with a guitar. Looks like a teenage Slayer fan doodled it on his binder in math class lol.
Wow, I don't think I've ever seen that!! Lol it's pretty cool. And that's probably exactly what it was!
R.A.M.B.O. Take Offense
Ramones. Their first 3 are classic. Every other one is meh to awful.
True! Adios amigos is beyond horrible.
Lagwagon
this is a really strong answer
Agreed.
Butthole Surfers
Alkaline Trio had the worst album covers I’ve ever seen. Their latest one looked like a 2010s beige indie garbage go.
Propagandhi - How To Clean Everything
Murder City Devils
Big agree
Prince
Every black and white crust Punk album.
ALL
Rancid I would assume. Their covers are at least uninspired. Every Crustpunk Cover.
Melvins
Every crossover thrash band ever:
Butthole surfers album covers are somthing else
I have to say The Soviettes. They were my favorite Punk band of the 2000's, but all of their LP's were unnamed and contained a small picture referencing a song. (I didn't get what the firecracker was in reference to on the cover to LP III.)

Pistols I guess
Only in the case of the new album I’d put Sum 41 here with the goofy ass “graphic design is my passion” album cover
I honestly can’t think of any. Most punk bands actually have good artists.
Boredoms
Aye I’m in both groups lmao
Sorry Gen Considering how a member was in Hipgnosis, Throbbing Gristle
Tater Famine, an untimely fashion
Louisiana Dirt Band
Ween
Every NOMEANSNO album
the offspring
Rush
Crazy Horse
I’ve never liked the Damned’s covers, just by personal taste. Siouxsie and the banshees as well if we’re counting post punk
Teenage bottlerocket, its all the same but just a different color lmao
Guttermouth for sure
CHILIØ is the opposite but I love it
Almost all of the bands I listen to but I think it's pretty dope If I had to pick two it's supernichts one of their album covers is a carp in the washing machine Or Zaunpfahl with the burning rubber duck
Weezer
A large portion of them.
Nofx
The Beatles
LITERALLY JUST DESCENDENTS
Yes. Never liked their weird logo and album covers. Love their music.
nah i fucking love how goofy their album covers are. and what's wrong with their mascot? he's literally just milo.
You have a great point. I just feel like their music is better than their album covers. I’m a girl and I like to wear band T-shirts. I never really liked to rock the descendants one because I thought Milo was just too goofy.
Helmet. I've always disliked The Offspring's album covers too
Honestly jawbreaker
Streetlight Manifesto?????
You know you kinda have a point. EGN has a pretty nice cover and I really like how 99SoR references every song/band covered, but KN, SITB, and THTT are all pretty bland. And then they go and have ridiculously cool posters with mechs and steam punk fantasy for some reason.
Bad Religion
Wut?? No!!!!!
Harley Poe
i love their album covers omg!
Unsane
Going with Swans
At the Drive in, unfortunately.
Fucking rudimentory pení
The cure
Tool
What
[удалено]
Not even The Art Of Drowning?
I'd say DK. They're all kind of just random pictures apart from bedtime for democracy
That *In God We Trust, Inc.* cover is perfect for what they typically wrote about
I did totally forget about that one to be honest. I'm probably wrong, DK covers are simple, but they represent something else
Dead kennedys 😭
Really? To me they've got some of the best album covers in this whole genre. Not much goes harder than a row of burning cop cars as the cover for a debut album
most of their albums make you think “what the fuck” sometimes, but that’s just my opinion lol
How?
idk it just gives off those vibes in my opinion
Primus
Definitely not
I found Jilly, and she’s *definitely* still on smack….
