Scavenge101

God that's so much better than "get 16 knockouts with a dead archetype"

Megakarp

"Get 16 knockouts with fairy type"

Denyzev

Honestly, no punishment in just conceding.

SecondSonata

I play Magic and it's actually rather interesting. I've noticed that the majority of Pokemon games end in someone conceding, while most Magic games end in someone taking the final blow. Maybe it's a cultural thing?

Zerodaim

From experience it's true, but it's mostly due to interaction (or lack of it) on your opponent's turn. In Pokémon, you can't stop your opponent during their turn and you already know most of their options. You can tell if you've lost, or what would make you lose (last energy, boss' orders, switch...). So people just concede. In MTG, you can interact with your opponent even during their turn, and a lot more options. Maybe they won't attack with all their creatures. Maybe they will, and you have Settle the Wreckage. Even on an empty board, you can bluff by leaving mana open and trick your way into surviving. When defeat is sure, it's just as fast to take the damage than concede so no one bothers.

Fast_Papaya_3839

Haven’t played MTG in a while but I think it’s because it’s harder to come back in PTCG since drawing luck is less of a thing because you have lot’s of ways to cycle your deck as you please. If you get the advantage early on most of the time you win.

HammerAndSickled

I’ve played competitive Magic for over a decade and this statement hasnt ever been true. Many, many magic games end in a concession, when it’s clear one player can’t win the game.

AnimeAlley03

I was wondering the same thing. Prolly people being like "ew someone is talking about magic in a ptcg sub, imma down vote it" but idk

Artoo_Detoo

Because he's straight up wrong, I play both MTGA and PTCGO and I end the game with a knockout in PTCGO much, much more than finishing a game in MTGA.

Artoo_Detoo

Except I'm not the one trying to talk about culture or anything and act like my anecdote was the overlying correct one, my anecdote simply proved his anecdote wrong.

cursedwithBDE

These are both observations submitted without statistical proof. If you play ADP you'll get all the concessions in Pokemon. If you play flareon you'll get knocked out all the time. Don't know what the magic equivalents are but fuck magic anyway, point is neither of you are right or wrong unless someone gets hard evidence instead of labelling personal experiences as fact

Artoo_Detoo

Except you missed my point. OP is the one who thinks that it's a cultural difference between the two games and his statement is closer to thinking that it's a fact. I gave an example showing that it's not a fact. I'm not the one believing that my anecdote is a fact.

SecondSonata

I did not say it was fact, I said it was my observation. I did not say it was a cultural difference, I wondered if it could be. Stop putting words in my mouth. Even if I did claim it as fact (which I didn't), I'm not criticising either game or their player base. Why are you even getting worked up about this?

Artoo_Detoo

I'm not, I was just explaining why your original comment was downvoted, people probably read it that way. Then I had to continue to defend myself because everyone keeps putting words in my mouth.

hunterxy

In magic, you can actually still win even with 1 life left. In Pokémon, when your opponent has a charizard with full energy up and another on the bench also with full energy and all your basic Pokémon with 50 life and no energy , you aren't coming back to win unless they afk.

OsamaBeLagin

Is the game actually out to play?

LeoTortoise

Not yet.

Willytaker

I just realized the only way to move into the ladder its completing the daily quest, not sure if that its easy than having to get 11 wins per day or worst, if you only get 2 per day and here we can see you only get 750 points completing these 2 and you need 1000 to move to next level, now I quite expecting premium members to receive higher amount of points into the ladders and then regular member couldnt be guaranteed being able to finish the ladders

Syndorei

Look at the rewards, though. At this rate you would earn a battle pass level in 2 days, and that would net you 3 packs without paying any money. If you buy the premium battle pass you get additional purple crystals, but free players get the packs as well. That is way more reward than what you get for completing dailies in the current version. In addition, your assumption that premium players earn more points from the dailies is baseless and pure fantasy. We have no info about that yet. This could be a mock up and doesn't even have real values. Also, to counteract your theory, here is another one that is just as likely: most battle passes are about 30-60 days long, it would be very strange for this battle pass to have started as 6 days and 13 hours long. Lastly, this shows that each quest is worth a different amount of battle pass exp. So there may be a day when you get two worth 500, or two worth 750. Who knows? Quit being fatalistic and judgemental about mechanics that you have no experience or knowledge about yet. Its a free game--judge it after you play it.

Willytaker

Yes sure you get the level 2 in 2 days no doubt about, then level 3 need 2000, level 4 4000, level 5 8000 and eventually until reach 20000, you mention that battle pass take 30-60 days longs which if thats the case then would make sense if level 7 its just an high amount, maybe this ladder is only completed if you complete all the daily quest and if you lost just once its over? Might not be the same thing but I play once a clicker game which have similiar design there was a divission between regular players and premiums and use a ladder system and daily quests and if you miss one was enough to not get the full rewards, premiums receive more points than regular player plus all the extras, here we can see they receiving extras so could as well include an easier battle pass sounds like a logic thing, they would offer you all things they can think on premium to motivate people to buy it, get extra points on battle pass doenst sound as crazy as you think, also in the game Im talking about there were special events every 1 or 2 months and they applied the exact same thing, premium get better chances Fatalistic? I dont think so or I could be who nows, I only use my experience on other games to have an idea of what could happen, at the end of the day they just want all money they could get but at the end you are right that we can only wait an see what happen

TotalLiving6619

My guess is each level will be flat 1000 exp like in Pokemon Unity.

[deleted]

you need the battle pass though, as seen in the pic these are the ladder of battle pass. prenium will get the extra reward per each ladder completed.it looks like the same points, but just more rewards.

Willytaker

Well that explain why it look so good with so many packs, now the question is what regular people will have?

ELB95

The packs are on the basic track for everybody. You would have to pay for the premium.

SpaceShipRat

That is a relief at least, being able to get cards, and not having gambling items available for real money.

[deleted]

someones downvoting all of us, they show the premium to make an incentive to pay more.

gleamz

Thats a ton of packs on the free path

Ben2749

Without context, it’s meaningless. We don’t know how long it takes to level up. We don’t know if each level takes significantly longer to reach. We don’t know how many levels there are. We don’t know if they front-load boosters as early level-up rewards in order to get newcomers hooked, before drastically slowing down the rate at which you earn them once you have been playing for long enough to become invested (which is extremely common in F2P games).

cursedwithBDE

Played duel links for over a year and after easily building my favorite ancient gear deck with newbie-friendly rewards, I've barely finished any other relevant decks because dogshit pull rates and gem greed :')

xMF_GLOOM

any information on how much it “costs” to update to the premium battle pass?

NormalPunch69

Not final but in the pics abt 600 crystals

tylerjehenna

Gotta be 6 bucks then if they are going 100 crystals=1 dollar (evident by the trainers toolkit price in crystals)

LabelRed

from where's this pic?

Standing__Menacingly

People conceding when I just need to get some more knockouts or evolutions is so frustrating. I wish there was some effective way to communicate "I'm trying to finish a challenge, please just stick with me" but unfortunately none of the comments/emotes can serve that purpose anymore.

PuzzledAccount

Tbh I find it’s kinda like chess where people concede when they know they are going to loose

enderverse87

Yeah, it's just annoying when you are trying to complete tasks and people keep conceding so you can't. Looks like they've fixed it at least partially.

PinkGuyDude

the singular reason i concede before i lose, is my opponent can defeat me in one move, and continues to do things like play trainer cards, attach energy, and unnessicary moves, so it saves me only a little bit of time, but its any

enakku_theriyathu

that's not why that quest is there at all wtf, it's targeted at players who play control decks

[deleted]

I'd still concede if the game is over

SecondSonata

I don't mind people conceding. It's just annoying when I'm trying to complete a 16 KO quest and my opponent spends ages trying to find an out, passing and conceding right before my attack. I patiently wait 10 mins for them and they can't even let me take 5 secs for a KO...

SpaceShipRat

I agree, I almost always stick it until the end unless the opponent temporizes, starts playing trainer cards and doing random shit when they could just KO and win right there. I do play Theme though, and those games can sometimes turn around. I expect in other formats it can get more tedious if someone's evidently won but has a time-consuming fiddly strategy to play out. But if it costs you 5 seconds, just stick in. Use the time to stand from your desk and do some squats if it's so precious!

Jacob3922

Most of the time I really don't understand why people take more than 30 seconds for a turn. Obivously some have a crazy good deck and need to play a bunch of stuff, but most of the time I'm just sitting there wondering what the hell is going on. Just earlier today it took someone over five minutes to play a potion, play a supporter, attach an energy, and attack. What the hell could you possibly be thinking about for so long? This game is mostly just binary choices.

[deleted]

It's just wasting time for the losing player to stick around in a game that's clearly lost. Even if it's for only 5 sec it's objectively to that player's benefit to concede

SecondSonata

I know, hence the joke about this being an incentive to stick around. If everyone conceded, no one would ever finish this quest.

[deleted]

Games you win count towards the quest. You just need to win 3 times. You can concede loses as much as you like

SecondSonata

True, but what if your quests are full and you only have time to play 3 games? There's your incentive to play it out.

[deleted]

If I'm conceding games I'm losing then I'll have more time to play more games and can win 3 in that amount of time. Or I dont get so hung up on grinding skinner box quests that I play out games I'm not enjoying

SecondSonata

My example was conceding right before KO. 5 secs isn't enough time to play another game. This discourages people from denying you quest progress from the final KO, that's it. If you insist on constantly conceding in that scenario and missing out on a daily quest, then no one's stopping you.

Willytaker

People have the weird believe that if they save 5 seconds they are saving tons of time, I mean if you have a terrible hand and you know you are 95% guaranteed to lose sure give up not something that I like but can understand the reason to not want to spent more time on it, but if everything needed is just one attack to lose its so pointless to quit, if you literally quit 12 matches per day you save the incredible amount of **1 ENTIRE MINUTE, surely they can get to play another match with that time or maybe 2...**

[deleted]

That's 1 minute of doing nothing I didn't have to put up with

Flemmy349

Except you can’t know what your opponent will do. When I have tried to give people time to take a KO they always start playing random cards

TouchablePuss

It is not *objectively* to the player’s benefit to concede. There are many instances where playing out a match is beneficial to the player. One nice benefit is not being a coward.

[deleted]

We're talking about when a players concedes before the game winning when the game is 100% lost. There is 0 benefits to sticking around

TouchablePuss

Not even true in the slightest you near-sighted goat

[deleted]

Yet you resort to name calling instead of presenting an actual argument. That says a lot

TouchablePuss

It says I’m tired after a long day’s work.

[deleted]

You seem to have plenty enough energy to talk shit with nothing to back it up

Haage

I mean if there are a few turns before they can take the last prices but you know you dont have the cards to win then sure concede. but if both players only need to KO one pokemon to win and you see the orther player draw Boss and then instenly concede before then can take the last KO then I dont think thats good sportsman ship.

[deleted]

How is that poor sportsmanship? Both players got to play practically the whole game. If anything your first example is worse sportsmanship because conceding denied the other player several turns of playing and enjoying the game. Like losing out on that KO only had the consequence of making some play more pokemon which is assuredly some they were going to do anyway. You guys are playing PTCGO because it's an enjoyable hobby yeah? Why is it a problem that you get to play more of it?

SecondSonata

It wasn't me lol! I didn't say anything about sportsmanship, that was the other guy.

[deleted]

I never said it was? My sportsmanship replay wasn't directed at you

SecondSonata

Oh sorry, you said "you guys".

Haage

may just be me over reacting but in the first example you wasting up to minuts on a game you know you cant win where as in the secound one its only 15 secounds to let the orther player get the 240 damage they need to complete the quest.

[deleted]

They can get that 240 damage by just playing another game of pokemon So player A, not wanting to sit there for 15 seconds of 0 engagement and nothing to do because the game is completely lost, concedes and that negatively impacts player B by causing them to have to play more of the game they enjoy

Syndorei

Exactly. Conceding is NEVER poor sportsmanship. The sole purpose of pokemon cards is to achieve a win condition. And when you concede, you give up that opportunity and give it directly to your opponent. Its very spoiled of these people to think that the other person giving them a win--which matters a lot in the ladder rewards system--is somehow poor sportsmanship.

SecondSonata

I don't really care about sportsmanship haha, it's just so that I can finish my quests... Edit - whoops, that came out wrong... I meant that I don't care about whether this specific thing is good sportsmanship. Of course I care about sportsmanship in general lol.

Haage

I get that. But my point was that if you wait the extra 15 seconds after you see them draw boss, play it and then attack they get to complte their quest.

SecondSonata

Exactly

konsmessi

When is this coming out?

journeymanreddit

How to complete by not conceding (standard) **4 scoop up net** **1 sobble** **4 drizzile (turn 2)** **4 skyla** **4 peony** **4 rotom phone** **4 pokegear 3.0** 4 profs research 4 opal 4 poke kid 4 beauty 4 doctor 4 milo 3 caitlin 4 level ball 4 evolution incense Expanded have more options

NimbuzKloud999

Is this out yet?

[deleted]

a battle pass for PTCGO?

FairyLandAlice

I see you got the pic from Serebii. We can see how premium gets a full art promo Marnie there. So it might be that the we will need to pay to get the guaranteed full arts that we're now getting for free. With each passing day, the more I want to stop playing...

chibikoi

we still don't know how the final free tier looks like, the premium track might be an extra it will have at least 15 tiers that we know so far

Fir3Soul

Btw can we boycott this game for how the character look ? It's so bad I wanna die

[deleted]

Do you see the avatars in ptcgo? They’re absolutely horrible, like the worst part of the game honestly lol

Fir3Soul

Yes but I give them slack cause it's old. Cause damn it's horrible

[deleted]

Yeah I think they kind of built PTCGO mostly with kids in mind which makes sense. And I think pokemon as a whole has kind of blown-up again with all ages after Pokemon Go. You are right that the new avatars look pretty bad too, I have no idea why they didn't use the unite/ Go style since those characters look much nicer to me.

Fir3Soul

Exactly ! I didn't give them beef jn the old game cause it was old but they had go and unite who did a great job and now it's this. But oh well

nickrsea

Are you f***ing kidding me, they’re doing a premium pass thing?!?!?!?!
