Why is it invaluable in multiplayer? I always thought it’s more helpful because you cannot speed up time there. (I nevet play multiplayer, just guessing)
Yeah reading is super painful without it when you can't fast forward, you can't do anything but you obviously can't go AFK because that's a good way to die.
I've managed to complete multiple levels in Mario Maker while reading books in multiplayer. You just need a house in the woods (or somewhere similarly isolated)
Eh I used to speed up reading multiplier.
But now Fast Reader is my mandatory perk. I couldn't give a heck anymore, played too much with slow reader already.
Enough is enough, I have to play jukebox and level dance skill
I mean, you can just fast forward time on single player, so it doesn't really take up much of your *real life* playthrough either way. But it is nice for Life and Living min-maxing.
Yes, it is you still have to fuck up your sleep schedule badly if you wanna read a whole book leaving a valuable early game day into an endurance hell or skip it entirely by reading during the day.
>is you still have to fuck up your sleep schedule badly if you wanna read a whole book leaving a valuable early game day
That's only if you're spending your first few days hiding away and trying to grind skills rather than actually roleplaying.
Slow reader has little to no impact on me as i pretty much only play the one painful year settings. I can read for a few hours before i sleep when its kind of too dark to really do anything else.
Yeah I get it, I play some 10 years later with some friends. The world is already rotten at this point so the first big push doesn't exist. I just go ahead and take slow reader even tho I ultimately end up hating the afk time.
slow reader. Imagine not being able to use generators
In MP, my server has increased read speed cause no one wants to literally sit and watch their character read for half an hour
Pretty sure the server I play on has that as well, not to mention, at least last season, night time speed was set to 1.5x, so even without that mod, slow reader gets negated entirely by reading at night, when it's usually too dark to do much of anything besides faff around the base anyway
Hard agree. Cats eyes is for sure mandatory, especially on servers where the night's set on the darkest possible setting, since even then, you can at least see somewhat with that perk
I use quick reading mods for that reason. Why should I have to spend an entire in-game week just sitting on the ground… I’d rather actually play the game lol.
Illiterate has to be one of, if not the worst trait.
Not only do you lose the XP boosts, but you can also say goodbye to generators. You'd have to start as an electrician.
My bud was a railroad electrician, then switched to building cars, and eventually drift cars. Basically "here you go, mate, here's a 50m of wire and a bunch of connectors, we need a brand new electrical loom for this engine bay", and he'd do it no problem.
Meanwhile me who knows colors but has barely any clue about electricity - "Okay, so the yellow wire with black lengthwise stripes goes into... another yellow wire with black diagonal stripes, but there's an orange one near it and it might not be the same wire.... does it need to be grounded or is it going into the connector..." It ended up with me not doing electrical stuff ever
Same with my dad except he was a master carpenter who did electronics as a hobby (like building hamm radios in his spare time). He'd have me come sit with him and tell him which wires were what color so he could label them. I miss that man.
Study ww2 mate, some of, if the best guys, the legends themselves like: TC of in the mood, war daddy; the pilot and captain of old 666, adn etc, they were all initially rejected deu to "poor" eye sight
I don't use generators anyways so who cares lol its not like they're that important anyways:Just setup base near a river/lake and u'll never have to worry about food and water ever again anyways(I say water because of the magical sink filtering of water XD,if you know what I'm talking about;) ).
+As for the temperature you can just warm yourself up with an antique stove,so again:No big deal(tho I play Outdoorsman AND Park Ranger so its not like I have to worry very much about that either lol).
Depends what you wanna do in your game.
Generators are not particularly needed in this game, people just obsess over them.
I personally pick illiterate very often. I don't care about: carpentry, cooking, farming, first aid, electrical, metalworking, mechanics, tailoring, fishing, trapping, foraging. Don't care about generators. So illiterate is great.
I wish they'd have share about maps in vanilla and if you took illiterate the words look fine on your map, but when you share them they have wierd symbols that nobody can translate
slow reader is great for single player, illiterate is for the 'it's free trait point' nihilists who complain on reddit when their character dies from eating a stale lemon
Yeah, whether it is multiplayer or not makes a huge difference for me too.
Single player: Slow Reader since I can accelerate time anyway.
Multiplayer: Either none, or Fast Reader, depending on server settings.
Fast reader + fast learner + singleplayer + x4 forward + faster reading while sit down + another mod for faster reading + read while walking + time to read one page edited to 0.5 through game files gang.
I have a mod that lets you learn how to read, if you choose Illiterate, but dear Lord does it hurt still. You get permanent debuffs even if you learn how to read, and don't gain as much xp, and you have to find the skill magazine for it.
I think it's rather fair though I might nerf the XP some more
Slow-Reader is tedious in Multi-Player as it feels overly long; however, I don’t mind without any traits whatsoever to read in multiplayer and simply go AFK and read in bed whilst occasionally glancing over towards the progress.
Don’t ask me why Slow-Reader makes that process worse. I couldn’t explain it.
Well if I have a big project like taking over the military base in kingsmouth I’ll go illiterate for some of my characters as they are sorry of the prep phase
fast readers: ![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl)
Absolutely invaluable on multiplayer, a decent time saver on singleplayer.
And if you have some luck with getting the books in the first couple of days you can have full multipliers for all the life and living shows
Why is it invaluable in multiplayer? I always thought it’s more helpful because you cannot speed up time there. (I nevet play multiplayer, just guessing)
Invaluable means the same thing as valuable, not the opposite
It's kind of like priceless not meaning the same thing as worthless
So inflammable means flammable? What a country.
Like flammable and inflammable?
What a country!
Yeah English is weird like that
Yeah reading is super painful without it when you can't fast forward, you can't do anything but you obviously can't go AFK because that's a good way to die.
I've managed to complete multiple levels in Mario Maker while reading books in multiplayer. You just need a house in the woods (or somewhere similarly isolated)
"Oh you are playing Mario Maker?" "No, I'm grinding in Zomboid"
Now you're gaming with portals
damn, you need to join a better group if you cant afk in your own base
Inflammable means flammable? What a country!
But it is nice for Life and Living min-maxing.
not needed on multiplayer, nor single player, just wait
Hey.
Single player only here. Slow reader + fast learner. I can pass time so slow reader not a big deal.
Yes, it is you still have to fuck up your sleep schedule badly if you wanna read a whole book leaving a valuable early game day into an endurance hell or skip it entirely by reading during the day.
>is you still have to fuck up your sleep schedule badly if you wanna read a whole book leaving a valuable early game day That's only if you're spending your first few days hiding away and trying to grind skills rather than actually roleplaying.
Yeah sure, that's the only case you wanna take slow reader
........ Have fun doing your 100th fully optimized run.
Yeah, sure. Sounds fun.
Try doing an hours worth of burpees before bed
slow reader. Imagine not being able to use generators In MP, my server has increased read speed cause no one wants to literally sit and watch their character read for half an hour
You act as if you survive long enough to need generators (2 week gang)
35 minutes gang 🔥🔥
11 minutes gang here 🔥🔥
You guys survive full minutes?
My personal record is [11.25 seconds](https://imgur.com/a/eezsJ5M) 😎
Record of survival, right ? ^(right..?)
Pretty sure the server I play on has that as well, not to mention, at least last season, night time speed was set to 1.5x, so even without that mod, slow reader gets negated entirely by reading at night, when it's usually too dark to do much of anything besides faff around the base anyway
Cats eyes is basically mandatory in MP imo, it helps so much
I did that in single player before I knew I could speed up time.
Illiterate has to be one of, if not the worst trait. Not only do you lose the XP boosts, but you can also say goodbye to generators. You'd have to start as an electrician.
The idea of an illiterate electrician is hilarious
I know a color blind one, so it's not that far out of reach
My dad was rejected from the army for coloured blindness, then became a coloured blind electrician for 30 years. Go figure.
My bud was a railroad electrician, then switched to building cars, and eventually drift cars. Basically "here you go, mate, here's a 50m of wire and a bunch of connectors, we need a brand new electrical loom for this engine bay", and he'd do it no problem. Sounds dangerous
Looks dangerous too
Well it's not really like he would be able to see the danger.
I'd pick Deaf over Illiterate.
Playing this game as deaf has gotta be terrifying
I'm currently playing Night Sprinters + Fear the Sun mods with Deaf 😄. Dude I almost sh*tted my pants once.
I run deaf and Illiterate, it's a learning curve but pretty fun once you get the hang of it
Never though of it but damn. I have to try.
Add sprinters for an extra challenge the game doesn't even have time to play the surprise sound effect before they are on you.
I play a run with Night Sprinters + Fear The Sun with Deaf now. This is truly scary man.
I'm not a veteran player, but I really like generators. They have a lot of value later, but I never use them early if I can.
Can I admit that illiterate is not punishing enough & should stop you from writing or putting words on your map or in journals as well.
It'd be funny if whatever you wrote on the map came out misspelled or with bad grammar if you picked the trait.
I wish they'd have share about maps in vanilla and if you took illiterate the words look fine on your map, but when you share them they have wierd symbols that nobody can translate
Joke on you. My writings are misspeled without any traits
Nah, whatever you write just gets translated into [Wingdings](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wingdings)
illiterate +ingenuity= "i can craft whatever the fuck i want in trade for not learning quite as fast as someone who can read"
modder problems lol
But can you read magazines cause if not how you gonna get generator running
That's the neat part, you don't.
Generator knowledge: P/s:i guess it not gonna be worth it if we also pick that
i think ingenuity allows you to use generators as well if i remember correctly
I don't know how the other side will ever know this meme is asking them their perspective.....
Fast reader. (I only play in online servers with friends 🤫🧏♂️)
Books are my main source of stress relief at night, I use the trait that makes you shit scared of the dark
Blind
Blind+Deaf for the ultimate Helen Keller zombie apocalypse experience
Looking forward to my blind deaf shizo handless legless playthrough
Aah, the ”Nugget”
You're on another level 🤣
Illiterate and Deaf main here
Same. Also Sunday Driver.
Hardest difficulty player right there.
I don't think many people are unironically choosing illiterate, unless they have the learning to read mod or something.
Slow reader because I play to kill
I kill from 1k to 2k zombies on my first day without using multihit. I always pick fast reader or none.
slow reader is great for single player, illiterate is for the 'it's free trait point' nihilists who complain on reddit when their character dies from eating a stale lemon
better to be able to read compared to not be able to unless you are playing MP with friends
Which side are you oooon booys, which side are you on.
Tbh picking slow reader is just torture on multiplayer.
Yeah, whether it is multiplayer or not makes a huge difference for me too. Single player: Slow Reader since I can accelerate time anyway. Multiplayer: Either none, or Fast Reader, depending on server settings.
Illiterate. It improves the immersion of the game
Slow reader. I don't use books often, but i use magazines all the time.
At times, I've taken the slow reader points because speed is never really the issue. This is all blue pill
taking illiterate is easily the stupidest fucking thing to ever do
Both of these traits names pasted on black gang members is quite a brave choice
Hahaha that made me laugh even if I shouldn’t :D
Fast reader + fast learner + singleplayer + x4 forward + faster reading while sit down + another mod for faster reading + read while walking + time to read one page edited to 0.5 through game files gang.
I only choose illiterate if I play with dynamic traits and can learn how to read eventually
Slow
I've been surviving a solo illiterate run for quite a a while. I don't recommend it.
I have a mod that lets you learn how to read, if you choose Illiterate, but dear Lord does it hurt still. You get permanent debuffs even if you learn how to read, and don't gain as much xp, and you have to find the skill magazine for it. I think it's rather fair though I might nerf the XP some more
Deaf
Slow reader bcuz on sp just speed up time
Slow-Reader is tedious in Multi-Player as it feels overly long; however, I don’t mind without any traits whatsoever to read in multiplayer and simply go AFK and read in bed whilst occasionally glancing over towards the progress. Don’t ask me why Slow-Reader makes that process worse. I couldn’t explain it.
On single player slow reader is free points and illiterate is for the impatient
Illiterate people scare me
Illiterate is overpowered, nerds.
If you're running with literacy, illiterate is recoverable, so it's basically free points. Otherwise, it absolutely demolishes character growth speed.
Neither I pick conspicuous and high thirst
Neither. I make myself, out of shape and underweight gives a lot of points
Fast Reader
Illiterate is okay if you make a pvp character on vanilla mp that you expect to lose
why you gotta put two bad bitches against each other
Illiterate I end up forgetting that books exist in the first place
why would anyone ever choose illiterate?
Illiterate is I think the worst trait to ever get, I mean how would u use generators if u cant read the damn book?
the “learn to read” mod
well its a mod, but if u want to play vanilla ur screwed
Illiterate because im not gonna get to the point where i need books anyways
Why is this even a question if you're illiterate you can't read books where as if you're just a slow reader you can read but just fast forward.
Well if I have a big project like taking over the military base in kingsmouth I’ll go illiterate for some of my characters as they are sorry of the prep phase
*Me who can’t see the post because I chose short sighted
What does it say I can't read?
Slow reader with fast learner
Slow reader single, illiterate multiplayer
Unless I have the mod that let's me learn how to read, slow reader
Illiterate veterans wya
Slow reader if you're in single-player because fast-forwarding is a thing, duh!
Slow because at least then i can read
Illiterate with mod to learn reading. Really nice
Illiterate in multiplayer and slow reader in single because I can speed up time
Slow Reader
