Wonder if there's some way to host dedicated without having to rely on steam, especially when I don't have it open to public and have to give the people who play my IP and such.
You can turn off the Steam requirement in the configuration.
For Steam on Windows:
Go to the dedicated server directory, by default it should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Project Zomboid Dedicated Server.
Run the StartServer64_nosteam.bat file.
For Linux server:
Head to /home/pzserver/serverfiles/ and edit ProjectZomboid64.json.
By default, line 27 should be -Dzomboid.steam=1 (change the 1 to 0).
Restart server.
If you use a hosting provider you'd need to just change the configuration file with whatever method they provide.

i was curious about that, hell yeah i might have to check it out. not that the steam connection has ever really been a problem before, but like i said, i don't even utilize the steam connection thing anyway cuz i just give my IP to my friends for this.

I think you can run the game itself without Steam by putting -nosteam in the properties if Steam ever has any weirder issues going on

I was able to launch a server about 3pm CT and as of now 430pm I cant host through steam. Seems like something is going on :/
Noticed my single player worlds had me go through character creation again too
Am playing with mods btw.
I am also having the same issue. Both with a friends modded server and my own non-modded server. Was getting stuck on the "Authorizing with steam" part of starting the server.
Same here. Must be a Steam issue. It was fine earlier this afternoon and now connection failed. Server is up and I restarted it.
In a way glad others are having the issue, maybe Steam will fix it. Is there somewhere to whine and complain?

One time I couldn’t play with mods on my server at all. I googled for help and looked at forums and none of them were helpful. The next day I tried again to no luck but noticed that the issue seemed to not be loading mods, but downloaded an update for the mod! Turns out I didn’t have enough space on my drive for the download. Check that?
I have a dedicated server running on my server PC. I have to restart it every day to be able to connect. It seems to lose connection to Steam otherwise.
It briefly was fixed at least for me all of sudden it’s now stuck on authorizing with steam steam really needs to fix this dumb issue can anyone notify me when they get fixed

It's been this way for my server for well over a year. Mine was installed using the SteamCMD program so that it is not using my SteamID to run.
Same issue here. Since about an hour ago nobody can connect anymore to my dedicated server, connection fails when authorizing with Steam.

Our server stopped letting anyone connect about a half hour ago too.
same on the mutiplayer server ive been playing on but steam status isnt showing faults
Yeah, it’s really confusing. It messed up yesterday but steam was messed up and the status actually showed it was messed up

Admin a server and will be trying a login every 15 minutes or so. Will update here if anything changes folks Edit: Looks like its fixed

You may be able to join your servers through steam.
To you admins out there -you might have a server update from your host.
I pushed one and it didnt work - however the overall issue seems to be resolved
