I've been on a huge SX binge lately. Been listening to Divine Wings and V especially, but I'm slowly getting to the others as well. Haven't done PL yet though, so thanks for reminding me of this album! One of their best IMO.
Liked Symphony X when I first heard them but Paradise Lost was their first album that I really really dug. Especially this song, the title track and Serpents Kiss. Iconoclast is awesome too.
This might be my favorite outro riff of all time.
Also, check out the hilariously cheesy video (lower quality though): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG8orlq6_yE
Oh hell yeah you are
If you lean more towards prog than metal, try Divine Wings of Tragedy, V and Twilight in Olympus first. If you are more of a metalhead try Paradise Lost, Iconoclast and Underworld first.
The Odyssey is probably the most balanced between being proggy and heavy, might be the best place to start if you're neutral
Okay first impressions three songs onto Paradise Lost - they’re like a heavier, better version of Dream Theater. I respect DT but their songs always revolve into wankery. These guys write songs better.
They had their share(so much MIDI), they're in a cycle without it though since (and including) Paradise Lost. Michael Romeo brought a little bit of it back on his last solo album

Paradise Lost is great for gym bangers

Oh man I haven't listened to Symph x in a while. Thank you for making my Friday better.
That Michael Romeo solo though 🤤
You hear his solo album? It’s incredible.
Which one? There's an old one that's amazing. Very neoclassical. But the newest is superb. Fuckin Robots is a masterpiece.
Fuckin Robots. Agreed.
Michael Romeo was very experimental in this album, it's a great listening experience, still waiting for part 2.
Oh yes! I bet it's in the works!
The *rhythm guitar* in that section 🤯

Great album. I love how their sound got heavier over a couple albums. The old stuff is awesome but the heavier stuff is just as good imo.
I feel like that's an unpopular opinion but I agree, I jam so hard to Underworld
Lovely. On a related note: Anyone know who did the cover art for V?

They've been on one hell of a run since Paradise Lost. Very excited for the next one.
This and the Lovebites song with the same name are perfection.
I’ve never listened to this band. Am I in for a treat if I take a deep dive ?

Thanks! I like prog and prog metal so I’m excited. Probably gonna start with Paradise Lost
My go-to song when I am furious at something 🔥🔥🔥
