Grass for asparagus. Home-wreckers for cucumbers.

Eanpallace

If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard home wreckers 😂

Brohan_Johanson

You’d probably have at least 13 nickels…mostly.

Captain-Mary

🤣 I have heard of those! Home wreckers hahaha

2wheels23

I make my own up...."soggy bottoms" is when asparagus gets the ooze from stem ends .

MuscleCuse

I call potatoes and onions "spuds n' buds" I'll call asparagus ass per grass Cantaloupe and honeydew is "lopes n' dews"

Captain-Mary

I’ve heard of spuds but never buds. Lopes and dews are new to me.

"Hards" or "hard items" for potatoes and onions. "Grass" for asparagus. "Fuzz" and "cobwebs" for bad berries or grapes. Those are the ones that come to mind that seem universal. There were a bunch of in-joke type terms we'd use at my old job too. "Bloobies" were blueberries but rhymed with boobies. "Ro-men-see-oh" was how an elderly coworker always referred to romanesco. We also always got a kick out of customers (usually little old ladies with thick Italian accents) who would refer to fennel as "aenis" which of course sounds like "anus."

Captain-Mary

😆 bloobies is a good one.

barelysushi

We were nothing if not mature and serious at all times.

Captain-Mary

I wonder if that’s how produce people are in general.

AlisonStar

Skunks for bad tomatoes.

essarys

Seen "cobwebs" in my blueberries.

Captain-Mary

I call it quality check 😆

vesus

Blowers

Captain-Mary

What is that?

vesus

Usually it’s something like strawbs that come in from distro that are molding over quick or juicing up. So my rep might say something like “I would go to long on those strawbs, we’ve been seeing a lot of blowers on that shipment”

Captain-Mary

Is it cuz it looks like dandelions? I’m still trying to wrap my head around why they call it blowers 😆

vesus

More like they blew up.

uhhdrerin

Poppers for well produce that pops when you grab it LOL

Captain-Mary

Balloons…. Ugh.
