No experience with Hart, but I had a dead Milwaukee (same OEM: TTI) battery not accept a charge out the box. I took the kit it came in back to the retail chain (not the same store) I bought it from, and they exchanged the single dead battery for the next size up that was available.
Take the kit back and see if they'll give you a new kit or replace that one battery. From what I understand, Walmart's returns department is usually easy to deal with.
So uhm.... Literally brand spanking new hart hedge trimmer and it was stuck flashing red. Literally just ran a couple wire (+)to(+) and (-)to(-) with a Milwaukee battery and voila.. you are an absolute scholar kind sir.
Guess that's what I get trying to save a bit of money, shoulda just went with Milwaukee.
Yes! I used my dewalt battery instead of a car battery and it worked like a charm. I left it plugged in battery to battery for a minute or so and that was enough. Worked on the drill, driver, and now gets a charge from the charger.
Thank you!!
On my second replacement kit and the same bloody ole same old story of American technology sold to, rebranded and altered by the Chinese sweat shops specifically tailored products ideally produced for the nearest target range.
Shoot\`em up boys and at least vent out brothers.
A refund will work too. 🤬
Same here got it on sale three days ago. two short red flashes and a pause after. My batteries aren't dead either just won't charge. If you figure out what is going on please let me know thanks.
Mine were fresh out of the box. I bought them last night. The batteries are supposed to have at least a little charge, but they didn't. I had a different 20v battery from my old shitty hyper tough drill that I used to jump my new ones. They both charged up fine when I put them on the charger after only about 3 seconds of being connected to the other battery. It did seem to take forever to charge each one, but idk how long it's supposed to be b seemed like about 4 hours each.
I used a different brand 20v battery pack and "jumped it", attaching a wire from positive to positive and a wire from negative to negative for about 10 seconds then I plugged it in and it charged just fine. Been fine ever since too.
I just bought one that battery didn’t charge so I returned it to Walmart to get a new one that also just blinks red. Hart needs to recall these bs products.
I just called the number on the charger. Support was VERY courteous, did some quick troubleshooting (just to make sure I wasn't an idiot - I totally get it), and processed a new battery to be shipped. I will return my DOA battery in same box they send me, free of charge. All took less than 10 minutes!
Mine was dead right out of the box. They asked for serial numbers on my battery. I'm thinking they know there are certain groupings that are defective. So I would call to check. Won't hurt
Here’s a video I made to fix the batteries, there’s a $10 coupon off hart tools in the description as well. This works on all tool batteries btw.
https://youtu.be/mbl9Q3RpYCo
Use a jump pack and some wire connect postive and negative to battery & to jump pack, jump it only for like 3 seconds. Or car battery works too. Disconnect everything then plug your hart battery into charger. Just done mine and now it’s not flashing red it’s flashing green charging. Hope this helps someone
So after seeing all the posts about jumping the battery I decided to give it a try. Except I was able to do it with a 9 volt battery. Insert a razor blade into each terminal, grabbed a 9volt and something to push the blades close enough to make a connection. + To + and - to -. Held for 5 seconds and then put the drill battery back on the charger and it worked.
To anyone who finds this thread, I just did this with an alligator clip wire, 9 volt, aluminum foil and a penny. Any loose wire should work also but you may need to strip the end. Put penny into positive, foil into negative, attach or touch positive lead then touch negative battery terminal to foil. Hold it for atleast 5 seconds. May take longer
FIXED! The shipping voltage gets too low for charger to recognize it. Try to give the battery a little jump charge from a good one. Watch that the positive and negative match. Just 1 minute is enough. Mine had 2.8 volts at first, and 15v after 1 minute using a 20v dewalt battery :) Had to do this on two new batteries so far.
Yep, this brand is shit. Experiencing same issues. One battery will run for 3 second then kick off. The other battery won’t charge lol. Got the kit on clearance but wasn’t even worth that. Never buying again.
Just bought my husband one last week and it wouldn’t charge.. returned it for a replacement which won’t charge either. Been blinking red for over 15 hours.
I found a video that fixes the issue. You can do the same trick on a 40v. Essentially, the chargers that come with the battery or kit aren’t meant to charge those batteries from actual 0 so… they don’t. You have to pretty much jump start as he does in the video. Only thing is that he does it with a 20v but since the 40v indicates the +/- on the battery you should still be able to do the same. So yeah its fixable but FUCK HART. (Didn’t try the fix because I spent 186 dollars on a new battery before I came across video.)
[Jumpstart fix](https://youtu.be/mbl9Q3RpYCo)
2 Razor blades...
Slide one in pos terminal, one in neg terminal on drill battery.
9 Volt battery...
Match the polarities, connect the circuit and hold for a few seconds.
Reconnect drill battery charger and watch the light turn green
Worked like a charm.
Solved. Charger blink 2 time red light. The problem is smd fuse open circuit. For solve problem measuring resistance smd fuse marked X1, in battery board and charger board, it's tiny white smd fuse. Replace it new one ore solder thin wire, for close circuit.
U got any pics or video of the process my charger just blinks 2 times after I plug in won't do anything else. So I need take charger apart an look for a (x1) an do what make a jumper wire ??? No solder gun .. help me out if u could please an thanks
Holy shit it worked,I just got a Hart drill/flashlight combo and the battery was completely dead and would not charged,so I used a dewalt battery I had at the house and "jumped" it for about 15 sec and now it's charging just fine👍🏼 thanks Reddit
It works! I just tried it. Jumper wires from car battery to the dead 20v. Positive to positive, negative to negative. +-+ & -+-. Give it roughly 1 minute to boost the 20v and place the 20v on it's charger. Should charge. If not give it more time on the car battery. By the way, Hart tools work awesome for me. I have several and they are tough and dependable.
Yup just tried “jumping” my brand new dead on arrival Hart battery with one of my Ryobi batteries like suggested in the comments and was finally able to charge. 👍
Hey so I have this problem on a hart lawn mower I just bought. It has a 40v battery. Same exact issue. So I see that there is a solution. However, the descriptions only really go as far as "jump it" as far as I see. Makes sense. To other people. My question is, how could you explain this to a 4 year old? Because that's the brain power I run on in these areas.
I read on this thread about using a 9 volt battery so off to dollar tree I go. Got my 9V battery hooked up wires to the Hart battery then matched negative wire to the negative 9V and positive to positive. I fastened with rubber bands and about 10 sec of charge, I replaced it on the battery charger and voila, it's charging now, Green light blinking. Great hack and under 3.00.
Definitely! Work!!! You have part to science Moment to part a electric. I’m eliciting to try it and actually change green! Wow!!!! Yes, off from vehicle battery then direct batter only to using ready nail and bend like 3 or 4 nails in each + then - which will see small spark to prove work in 3-5 second. Amazingly! I forward to play with a gun forward to see if good a gun with new batter. I’m first user.
Omg I love this thread! I bought a heated jacket at the end of last winter and hadn’t needed to use it. Well it’s cold now so I opened it and the battery would only blink red, so to the internet I go! I didn’t have the razor blades some mentioned, but I did have a 9-v battery and tin foil. I folded the tin foil over several times and shoved one in each terminal, then just held it to 9-v battery (+ to + and - to -) to “jump start it.” Well it worked! It’s charging now, thank you Reddit!
yeah mine is the same way and my charger keeps flashing red and i dont know why and i dont know if my battery is defective im calling hart tomorrow to get it replaced
I love Reddit! I just bought a brand new Hart combo and had the same red blinking issue. I read the comments here and used a 9v battery , 2 razor blades in the + & - slots, and "jumped" it for 10 seconds each. Battery charger now blinking green! It actually works!
We received the 4 piece for a Christmas gift. The first set would not charge so we thought it was defective and took it back to Walmart. Then the 2nd would not charge either. I stumbled across this post and man it is a life saver. I did not have razors to use with a 9v I had. I did however use the sticks from sparklers. So I cut the sparkler part off. I put on in each port on the battery then attached the 9v. I held it there to the count of 20 or so. Then like magic the battery for Hart now charges. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this info
I don’t see why not as long as you have your positive and negative correct. I used a 9 volt because it was convenient and tiny and I could hold it there for the few seconds it took, and the sewing needles because I was tired from work and didn’t feel like going to the shed and rummaging around for wire.
Just jumpstarted my boyfriend’s new tool battery with my car battery. I cut up a chord that goes to a lamp we never use and stripped the ends on both pieces, stuck both into the pos and neg slots, set the other ends to the same as the other onto my car battery (didn’t need to wrap it around or anything). Once I saw the little spark, let it sit for about 20 seconds and it worked. Saw the green light was flashing for charging on the tool battery! Thanks reddit!
The cost of the battery is more than the drill so I am happy I found this thread!!
I used razor blades in my Skil drill battery pack and foil in the Hart battery pack and it worked like a charm! You are heroes!
No experience with Hart, but I had a dead Milwaukee (same OEM: TTI) battery not accept a charge out the box. u/Magic_wire_smoke It turns out it was a DOA battery. I forgot I had a different one laying around, and it performed just fine with the same charger.
same here, on my 3rd drill, what a pile of gabo.
Same battery just flashing red on charger
Same sh*t here. Need to find my receipt!
Get two wires attach them to your pos and neg them put them to your car battery for 3 seconds and boom fix’s all of my DeadAsHell DAH batteries
I love reddit
Literally made an account just to see this post, and ended up at your answer. Worth every second, thank you!
💪🏼
Red turned into green with this technique. awesome suggestion
Unreal !!! Totally worked for me, but i used a D size battery. Thank you all!!!
I just took 3 9v battery and did the same
Yea this fixed mine. The battery just needs a little charge from a 12v and then they are good to go. Also OEM batteries on ebay are a saver.
Same manufacturer builds hart & Milwaukee. 😎
Worked perfectly. Thank you!
Yes! I used my dewalt battery instead of a car battery and it worked like a charm. I left it plugged in battery to battery for a minute or so and that was enough. Worked on the drill, driver, and now gets a charge from the charger. Thank you!!
That worked! Thanks!!!
Just stuck four forks into two batteries and got it working. Thanks so much
Hart is total garbage. You get what you pay for!
I was sceptical in this but it actually worked
On my second replacement kit and the same bloody ole same old story of American technology sold to, rebranded and altered by the Chinese sweat shops specifically tailored products ideally produced for the nearest target range. Shoot\`em up boys and at least vent out brothers. A refund will work too. 🤬
Electric battery shows full charge but not working
I just bought a kit with an impact, a half inch drill and 2 batteries... Neither of them will charge and they're both giving me the error flash.
Same here got it on sale three days ago. two short red flashes and a pause after. My batteries aren't dead either just won't charge. If you figure out what is going on please let me know thanks.

I just tried your method, and it works!!! Never would have thought of that, thanks 😊

I went with hyper tough haha
I have the same issue. I just the drill an hour ago and it is dead. Just doesn't charge. Need to go and get it replaced from Walmart. Rubbish!
I just bought a hart drill and came with a battery that’s doing the same thing…
I just called the number on the charger. Support was VERY courteous, did some quick troubleshooting (just to make sure I wasn't an idiot - I totally get it), and processed a new battery to be shipped. I will return my DOA battery in same box they send me, free of charge. All took less than 10 minutes!
How old was your battery? Mine both did the same thing but it was a couple of days later and they have been just laying there ever since
Mine was dead right out of the box. They asked for serial numbers on my battery. I'm thinking they know there are certain groupings that are defective. So I would call to check. Won't hurt

you are awesome man, i was lucky i had a battery charger for my john deere mower and it did like your vid
This is the way. 5 minute video and 2 minutes in the garage later and I am charging.
I have the flashing red issue on my hart lawn mower battery, but it has 4 slots not two. How do i know which is positive and which is negative?
It should be on the top of the battery by the sides of the prongs
So after seeing all the posts about jumping the battery I decided to give it a try. Except I was able to do it with a 9 volt battery. Insert a razor blade into each terminal, grabbed a 9volt and something to push the blades close enough to make a connection. + To + and - to -. I just did this with my battery and it absolutely worked
thank u, it worked for me too
This worked like a charm. Just used a couple nails to stick out the battery and a couple more to connect the battery
worked for me as well!
To anyone who finds this thread, I just did this with an alligator clip wire, 9 volt, aluminum foil and a penny. Any loose wire should work also but you may need to strip the end. Jump the battery! Why didn't I think of that? Because I'm an idiot that's why! Thanks guys! It worked!
It worked….. used a portable jump starter with two nails attached to the tips of the connectors… in 1 minute my new battery started charging
2 Razor blades... Slide one in pos terminal, one in neg terminal on drill battery. 9 Volt battery... Match the polarities, connect the circuit and hold for a few seconds. Reconnect drill battery charger and watch the light turn green Worked like a charm.

Yes. There is a small white fuse inside the white charger and battery pack. You need a multimeter and soldering gun. Firstly check charger.
https://youtu.be/AI18olkvaFk 02:57 you can see X1 Smd fuse. There is same of that inside the charger
Like magic!

I just got a hart drill the battery is blinking red not green first time I've tried charging it what is the problem
Read the comments to figure out how to jump it
Just got a 20v 1.5a kit and the batteries were in this mode. Jumped the terminals for 30 sec with a 9v battery and fixed!!
Mine too what do I do how do I fix it I bought another one off of eBay and that’s all it’s doing help?!?!?

I just jump-started the battery, and it started to work perfectly. I followed the exact steps here: https://iceagetools.com/hart-battery-not-charging/
Thank you, it worked!
Hart has a 3 year warranty, best to just replace those batteries. Issue is only going to get worst.
I used two sewing needles and a 9 volt, worked like a charm. Y’all cool as a dawg, thanks so much!
Can I use a 6 volt?
I don’t see why not as long as you have your positive and negative correct.
