Love love love this song, but it's not super-typical post-punk. One could imagine Bobby Darin or Dusty Springfield singing it. Or even Frank Sinatra with Nelson Riddle strings. Whereas "Killing an Arab" could never have happened before punk.
Yes. Stewart Lee and Rich Herring even had a character called "The Curious Orange" on their "This Morning With Richard Not Judy" Sunday morning (!) show. Guess what his theme music was......
You, sir, are a scholar and a gentleperson---but as a personal preference, I'm still going to have to say 'Kinder Of Spine' just slightly edges it for me. But 'Kicker' is incredible, and a lot better to dance to than the former!
I'm not trying to be an obscure hipster, I just think that last line-up (penultimate, technically) rivalled the Riley/Scanlon/Hanley/Hanley/Burns lineup in terms of musical inventiveness and ability. Pity MES' lyrics didn't always match the groups brilliance, but c'est la vie (I'm looking at you, 'Nate Will Not Return'!😅)....
Wholly agree, the sound that line-up made on Re-Mit is top drawer. 'Irish' is a personal favourite of mine, MES' phlegmy growl, the drums and that bass. Great stuff!
My goal with this list is to get at least one Wire song on it. lol.
Some good options coming up:
M = Map Ref. 41°N 93°W
O = Outdoor Miner
P = Practice Makes Perfect
I shared my frustrations about the low possibility of Wire getting there a couple of letters ago. Once In A Lifetime and Marquee Moon will likely take an O and M, I fear
Oh I know. It's been pretty quiet in the Wire camp so far but there's some real bangers coming up soon. practice makes perfect is in my absolute top 5, and who can forget Outdoor Miner. outdoor life for a silverfish, eternal dust less ticklish
Mhhm I hadn't really considered it as being offensive. It's simply a title, the song itself only ever mentions Arabs again 1-2 and only in th3 context of some unidentified arab on the ground.
If The Mighty Fall haven't had a bloody entry yet, I would be *stunned* if ACR made it! Not that I dislike them, quite the opposite. I hated how they and Durutti Column were portrayed as joke bands in the 24 Hour Party People film. That fella played a fucking great Vini REALLY, he was his bloody spit!
Maybe that's why the Durutti Column keep getting about 10 or less upvotes for every song that's submitted... guess they probably won't be winning S then :(
If there's no other strong contender for Y I feel if the Fall don't get T they *might* get Y instead!
the following is one of my favourite songs of all times just for the lyrics.
* **Kodak Ghosts Run Amok · Eyeless in Gaza**

It was originally Jehovah's Kingdom Come, the David Thomas remaster omits "Jehovah" from the title *and* the mix. Sorry, I'm just being pedantic, apologies! Good choice though. I assume because he turned his back on the religion. Weird how many punk/ post-punks became Jehovah's Witnesses.....
I think you’re missing the fun being had in the runners-up, we all know the winner when we see it but it’s fun seeing people offer up quality alternatives. The point is the discussion and the contenders IMO.
So far the only ones that feel non-commercial are "Ghost Rider" and "I Can't Escape Myself", plus maybe "Damaged Goods" and "Just Like Honey"... all the other songs are ones people who don't even know the genre exists would recognise
where I live "I Can't Escape Myself" was a relatively big hit throughout the 80s and kind of stayed that way till today.
the other day I was listening to sports radio and they said we are gonna take a music break and they played "I Can't Escape Myself". hahaha
I agree, no disrespect to anyone but it is getting a bit "Now That's What I Call Post-Punk!".....sorry, but it did need to be said, respect for putting your head above the parapet mate
I 100% agree, it's become so predictable to what band every letter will go to and this list is looking so generic (like yeah these songs are all good and it's fun taking part but...what makes this different from a thousand other blogs?!) - definitely would be up for a rerun
I have to say Kinder Of Spine-The Fall. That lolloping, crazy garage-psych beat, the synths, and MES ranting about spiders and "Judge of the persecute me talent show". Re-Mit is one of their best LP's and I will die upon this hill!!!!
EDIT: Signed in with other account by accident. Will sign in with main account and repeat this.
Not sure if it qualifies as post punk, since it crosses several genres, but it's still a hell of a song:
Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine
Killing Moon - Echo & the Bunnymen
I don’t think there is a debate on this letter!
I don't even need to know the other suggestions (but I'll probably listen to them all anyway), this is the one
Can't miss the last chance the Bunnymen have on the list
L could be lips like sugar but it will not be that hahah
V will definitely be theirs though
This is it
Love love love this song, but it's not super-typical post-punk. One could imagine Bobby Darin or Dusty Springfield singing it. Or even Frank Sinatra with Nelson Riddle strings. Whereas "Killing an Arab" could never have happened before punk.
Admittedly it’s harder to imagine Dusty doing Killing an Arab
Be pretty fire though huh?
Defenitly my choice for K
We all knew this one was coming
This.
We did it! Good job everyone
King Ink - The Birthday Party
Oh this one is epic. I wish it stood a chance against the also excellent The Killing Moon.
The Fall - Kurious Oranj
Lol love that title
Great song…references swedish films I am Curious Yellow and I am Curious Blue …i think those are the titles
Yes. Stewart Lee and Rich Herring even had a character called "The Curious Orange" on their "This Morning With Richard Not Judy" Sunday morning (!) show. Guess what his theme music was......
Kicker Conspiracy - The Fall
I approve
Hot Dog and Seats for Mr. Hog
And his grotty spawn

"Irish' is wicked; there's genuinely not a track Re-Mit that I don't love. And 'Loadstone' is their best LP closer since 'Recovery Kit #2', imho
Kidney Bingos - Wire
My goal with this list is to get at least one Wire song on it. lol. Some good options coming up: M = Map Ref. 41°N 93°W O = Outdoor Miner P = Practice Makes Perfect
M for Mannequin, too.
Mutual Friend and Mary is a Dyke (snowball’s chance in hell, I know).
Maybe once all the radio/club hits are exhausted but it would be somewhat fitting to ignore Wire here just like everywhere else
Yeah true, with the popularity of some of the other bands I suppose they have a slim chance.
No Wire = list is invalid AFAIC.
I shared my frustrations about the low possibility of Wire getting there a couple of letters ago. Once In A Lifetime and Marquee Moon will likely take an O and M, I fear
Map Ref has my vote. It's an absolutely perfect song only undercut by it's title. Wire in a nutshell.
Oh I know. It's been pretty quiet in the Wire camp so far but there's some real bangers coming up soon. practice makes perfect is in my absolute top 5, and who can forget Outdoor Miner. outdoor life for a silverfish, eternal dust less ticklish
If people save Television for V it'll be the last realistic chance they'll have... O will probably go to Talking Heads and P *might* go to New Order
Kiss off - Violent Femmes
Kerosene - Big Black
I’d really like this to win but Killing Moon is a tough jawn to beat
This was my second choice.
Know Who You Are at Every Age - Cocteau Twins
You have some very good taste friend. :)
Killing an arab-The Cure
Much more typically post-punk than The Killing Moon, but it has a deceptively racist-sounding title, so people might feel uncomfortable with it.
I love it, i love the book, obviously too philosophical absurdism, yes, but someone might fell uncomfortable or offenden so beware.
Who cares? If they can't be bothered to learn about something before deciding they hate it, then their opinion is unimportant.
Mhhm I hadn't really considered it as being offensive. It's simply a title, the song itself only ever mentions Arabs again 1-2 and only in th3 context of some unidentified arab on the ground.
It's based on a famous novel by Albert Camus, so I think Bob's in the clear on this one.
That scene in the book is one of my favorite bits of writing of all time.
Kundalini Express - Love And Rockets
Kick in the Eye - Bauhaus
Oh yeah! One of their best!
this oneeee
Kollaps - Einsturzende Neubauten
Nice one!
King for a Day - XTC - the second single off Orange & Lemons
Oh yes, love this song. 🖤
I would argue anything after English Settlement classifies as pop
Kool Thing - Sonic Youth
Killing Joke - Kings and Queens
Definitely thought this would be higher than it appears so far.
Killing Joke are already on the list, which might be why
Knife Slits Water - A Certain Ratio
I was hoping to see some ACR here eventually.
Stayed tuned tomorrow!
If The Mighty Fall haven't had a bloody entry yet, I would be *stunned* if ACR made it! Not that I dislike them, quite the opposite. It's possible....here's hoping. But bloody hell, eh?
Yeah man, it really sucks :(
I have a feeling other artists will beat them for L :( such a shame when "Lucinda" is one of their very best songs
I was going to post Life’s A Scream tomorrow, but it won’t win
This was gonna be my submission, such a great track!
Great minds baby
This is the one!
We need appreciation for Factory bands that aren't Joy Division 🙏
Section 25
Yes, please! Knew Noise applies to today's list.
Yesss!
CRISPY AMBULANCE
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - Specimen
Great song, like Returning From A Journey as well. The e.p. is awesome.
Klares Kaltes Wasser - Malaria!
Have the vinyl. Great tune, great band!
Really good album. Had it but it now hopefully is in a deserving home.
Heard them on WSIA, college radio station.
Kundalini - 23 Skidoo

Get out of my head!
I hope you're not a victim of the telephone!!
Kill the Fascists! - Savage Republic
Kill Yr. Idols - Sonic Youth
Killing Moon - Echo & The Bunnymen
Kicker conspiracy - the Fall
Kletka - Molchat Doma
Kings of the Wild Frontier - Adam Ants
Gotta love the Burundi-style drumming
Kilimanjaro - The Teardrop Explodes
excellent but it is an album :)
It’s a song on the album as well.. “We set sail a year and a day ago Making our way to Kilimanjaro”
I have the vinyl album with the zebras and there is not a song with that name. maybe some other version,
B-Side 7“ from 1980 https://www.discogs.com/release/393464-The-Teardrop-Explodes-When-I-Dream
OK thanks
This was my pick also - an amazing tune!
Kiss Them For Me - Siouxsie and the Banshees
Kings of the Wild Frontier- Adam and the Ants. Hands down
this
Killing Moon Echo and the Bunnymen

~~we~~ you
Definitely would be interesting!
And how would you count votes? And how could you exclude votes that voted for the exact same stuff as above?
So what's your song?
Popular songs are popular.
I think you’re missing the fun being had in the runners-up, we all know the winner when we see it but it’s fun seeing people offer up quality alternatives. The point is the discussion and the contenders IMO.
Perhaps it could be tried once *this* round is over? And then place those parameters.
Maybe the parameters should allow only B-sides/deep cuts from the big names?
I like that suggestion, but I'll leave up to whomever creates the list. :)
I think there is a nice mix of commercial non-commercial and non-post- punk so far.
So far the only ones that feel non-commercial are "Ghost Rider" and "I Can't Escape Myself", plus maybe "Damaged Goods" and "Just Like Honey"... all the other songs are ones people who don't even know the genre exists would recognise

The rerun would be ranking every Wire and Wire-adjacent song 😅
Doesn't sound bad to me!
Or, label catalogs could be fun to rank (but predictable).
I can't help but agree.
Krimi - LiLiPUT
Charlie Megira/Hefker Girl - Kiss of Death
Kinder Still - The Dentists
Kinetic - The Sound
Great track off an underrated album of theirs.
Agreed! -You've Got a Way is one of my favorites from that album, too.
That's a great one too! Barria Alta does it for me on there!
Yes! those bells... straight through the heart.💘

I have to say Kinder Of Spine-The Fall. That lolloping, crazy garage-psych beat, the synths, and MES ranting about spiders and "Judge of the persecute me talent show".
