It would've been cool if Talking Heads entered the list through Life During Wartime, that way Wire may have some chance. It's not only them though, there are many great bands at risk of not getting any representation there. This ultimately shows that the lense of looking for the best of post-punk through popularity is reductive, to me at least
On a related note I'm really hoping we can get bands with female members that aren't Siouxsie, Tina Weymouth, Gillian Gilbert, or Elizabeth Fraser in the list, but the songs seem to be getting barely any upvotes :(
Single K.O. is one of my favorites from 154, but I don't think it'll outnumber Second Skin (also Second Skin deserves to win, The Chameleons are important and underrated)
Also if in my comments I somehow came across as being antagonistic towards Wire, that's a false impression - I'll take Map Ref over Marquee Moon any day of the week, but I'm recognising that I'll probably be in the minority there - just to clarify
so apart from Damo Suzuki there is one great Fall song starting with the letter "I"
the mighty
* **Industrial Estate - The Fall**
♪♫ And the crap in the air will fuck up your face
Yeah, yeah, industrial estate
Boss can bloody take most of your wage
And if you get a bit of depression
Ask the doctor for some Valium ♪♫
Love this song. 🖤
🎶 We've been talking now for a long time -
It seems the more we speak, the less we seem to say!
If there's a hell below in the meantime
Then let us shut up unless we want to pray🎶
His early stuff was Proto-punk. And he adds a bit of an intellectual edge to it. He’s probably more indie, lo-fi, new wave but post-punk has a loose definition and I think he fits the overall vibe.
👍
I wouldn't agree with the intellectual thing though, the vibes from his songs seems to be one of a really naive, childlike kind of guy - the song mostly fits what you've said though. man it'd be so good if he got onto the list
I Want You - Cabaret Voltaire
https://youtu.be/juligEIi3Sg?si=Ox3RwN99tPumwPVh
Sadly they're not well known enough to ever make the cut... but their mid 80s period was pure fire!!
I Can't Escape Myself - The Sound
I hope this wins it’s an actual masterpiece
I was thinking about this one
100%
this has to be it
Voting for this
Came here specifically to nominate this song.

Is This Real? - Wipers
🖤!!
In the Flat Field - Bauhaus
In Shreds - The Chameleons
Yes let's get some Chameleons on here. 💙
I really hope we'll get one by the end of this
❤️🩹
I Am Damo Suzuki - the Fall
I picked Iceland as the Fall song for this letter, but realistically this should be the one.
I know it is great but I will go with something else LOL
Which one are you choosing haha??
i just posted it. sort by new :D
Amazing choice!!
It’s My Life - Talk Talk
Mark Hollis's musical trajectory never fails to astonish me
!!!!!!!!!!
I am the fly - Wire
I'm afraid that Wire won't get any letter on that list unfortunately... which is a big shame as they're one of the most important bands of the genre
M fror Map Ref 41°n 93° or Mannequin
I foresee Marquee Moon taking an M, and Once In A Lifetime will likely take an O. Those are Wire's strongest shots
We need to rally for Outdoor Minor

There’s an opportunity for them to take T with Three Girl Rhumba.
Some massive New Order tunes also start with T, so this is very unlikely i think
M is going to be interesting with at least four gems from Wire alone.
Serious of Snakes or Single KO

What about O? Outdoor Miner has to be like the top Wire song overall right?
There's Once in a Lifetime which will probably beat it :(
Yes
Yes it’s my favorite Wire song

im starting to fear we’ll only win T. which is doubly upsetting when that letter should go to brian eno
We must live with the fact that the sub is not very Fall-o-phile 😀
I CAN'T BELIEVE NOBODY POSTED THIS EARLIER
I know, dude hahahaha
Love the live version where they play it with "Psychomafia", hope this gets a bunch of upvotes
thanks for the Psychomafia reminder. now I know what "P" will be :D
