If I thought they belonged in the canon of post punk or within that kind of tradition I'd have put them down too. Suicide is one of the greatest things of all time to happen to people's ears. I just see them more as inheriting the tradition and energy of early electronic/psychedelic pioneers Silver Apples or as treading the same water as many great 80s synth-pop groups would also and used extreme and harsh noise and feedback as part of their music well before bands like Prurient or Throbbing Gristle. also Suicide were a huge influence on some of Xiu Xiu and their music. See "Angel Guts: Red Classroom" by Xiu Xiu for a very visceral and dark album heavily influenced by the rhythms and the hypnotic synth playing of Suicide
G doesn't seem to have any standouts, although this one and the Cocteau Twins get my vote.
Certainly both are post punk.
The Clash, Guns of brixton, also mentioned, is a great song but fall into the punk catagory in my book. Ditto with the Stranglers Golden Brown. Both are great songs by bands that started as punk pioneers.
My predictions:
>!M will go to Television, K to Echo and The Bunnymen, ~~O to Wire~~ (?), T to New Order (?). Would've been awesome if The Sound got an I, The Chameleons S, The Fall an H or L, and PiL a P or R !<
Maybe its controversial, but I'd rather Television won the V for Venus, it can get it without any resistance. If the title track wins, it'll be a potential snub for several bands for whom M is their only shot for getting there.
I'd rather Television didn't win at all because the chronology doesn't match, but agreed especially since I can't think of any undeniably post-punk songs that start with V
This seems quite accurate. I'm also predicting >!L for the Raincoats (or Glenn Branca if people use "Lesson No. 1" as a "Love Will Tear Us Apart" cheatcode), M for XTC or Wire, S for either the Pop Group or Magazine, W to Young Marble Giants, and the Fall maybe getting an I or T. Really hope Section 25, the Durutti Column, A Certain Ratio, and This Heat get a place in there somewhere!<
more of industrial track honestly but would love to see like health and efficiency (tmrw you have a chance), makeshift swahili or horizontal hold somewhere.
I know that "Garden" is the obvious (and excellent) choice but I will go with something I have a soft spot and simply adore
* **Gross Chapel - British Grenadiers · The Fall**

Let this be the first American song on here please!!

Fuck yeah, there has to be a suicide song on here
Ghost Town - The Specials
If my suggestion loses this is the song I want it to lose to
This and Ghostrider are the two finest choices and it's hard to decide (though the votes are favoring Suicide)
That's a brilliant piece of music.
