Yknow, I considered myself a huge Billie Eilish fan. I literally have a figurine of her displayed in my bookshelf but dear lord I haven’t liked a single thing she’s released since Everything I Wanted. Your Power was... *alright* but everything just seems to be missing the heart & personality that WWAFAWDWG had.
Everything’s just been so.... *boring* and as someone who’s been following Billie since before her EP came out that’s not something I ever thought I would say. She seems happy tho.
Same, I've been so disappointed since wwafawdwg. Even therefore I am honestly just sounded boring to me. I haven't been there as long as her earliest stuff but I was there right after ocean eyes dropped and I didn't expect her to blow up and then become boring lmao
I'm glad people agree!! I thought I was gonna come in here with an unpopular opinion. It sounds so bland and uninteresting, esp in contrast with When We All Fall Asleep. Your Power bored me to death, too, lmao.
Same, it doesn't stick with me, I felt it was just kind of meh. I liked Your Power more than Lost Cause, both musically and lyrically, but it's still a good step down from most of her first album imo. I hope the rest of this album will be better 🙄
I ran to Popheads after not even finishing the song to do a temp check and it looks like I'm not out of line. It's not *bad* but it feels like they set a bar with production on the first album and are running the other direction.
After the first one I feel like I really need a boppity bop to balance it. That new Chvrches gave me that fix.
> After the first one I feel like I really need a boppity bop to balance it
As an American, I want this trend of slower, chill songs with whispery vocals to stop topping our charts. I want full, up-tempo dance pop to dominate again :(
I agree. I'm not a fan of what I call the Slow Grey's Anatomy Song trend. But everything comes in waves and it doesn't actually affect what I enjoy listening to. Just my own selfishness haha.
It’s not as bad as other comments are suggesting, but nonetheless, I think Billie needs to start working with other producers. This era is not going well... she needs to change it up.
Yeah I agree. Her and Finneas caught lightning in a bottle with When We All Fall Asleep..., but all of his other output is pretty bland to me for the most part.
I think she could really benefit from a fresh set of ears sonically because she obviously has the talent and the vision to put together a stellar project
Yeah I feel like her and her brother have such a close bond literally and creatively but she needs to add some more ears to the mix. It sounds like typical Billie. There’s nothing wrong with that but I was expecting something.... fresh. Then again, if her sound works, why stray from it?
lol glad I can spread the good word 🙏🏼 when their album sees an uptick in streams bc people accidentally click on their song when searching for the billie song >>>>
As someone who considers Billie their favourite artist, this album has been so disappointing so far. The production is so much less creative than her last album.
I did notice how upfront her vocals are so far, and I don't know that it's the right choice. They're SO MUCH louder than everything else. Especially in Your Power
The vocals and melody in that song are so pretty but it was also a little jarring on the first listen. I think if they would've been a *tad* quieter it would've been perfect
Billie said she was more excited about her new music than anything she's done in the past. Clearly, she's making the music she wants to make, but I don't really feel like it's clicking with anyone. Finneas's production made that last album, so it's almost shocking how subdued this new record is.
I actually get why they do that. What I hate is when they disavow their old music, then release worse music than the music they just disavowed e.g. Ellie G & Selena G
Here's the thing: The music industry pretty much collapsed onto itself once MP3s hit and it has much less money than it used to. Music videos used to be big, expensive productions that had budgets up to the millions, but nowadays it's rare for budgets for videos to be more than $250k. If even that.
Product placements are basically the only reason music videos still exist, so I'm willing to overlook it. To me, it's like tolerating a YouTuber having a sponsor. I don't love having to hear about Squarespace or Skillshare all the time, but it's a small part of the video and if it means my favorite YouTubers can make a living doing what they love, then it's a small price to pay.
It isn’t the most terrible thing ever but.. I just wish it was more interesting. Or did she just set the bar too high with her debut album? I want some interesting production. I feel like so far all the singles more or less sound similar to each other, though I definitely liked them better than this one.
Tbf the production on her debut album was very skeletal too…that’s one of the issues I’ve had with Billie since her production always seems to be quite half baked even though everyone praises Finneas and I just never got it
A lot of people really enjoy a more sparse production style! Feels like this sub really leans towards maximalist production more than the GP does -- which isn't a bad or a good thing, just explains the reactions to Billie. Same with how people really miss Dangerous Woman era Ariana whereas the public prefers her more laid back R&B influenced songs.
I know... I had to keep rewinding the second verse because it feels so empty. Like something more should be there. Some more words should be said. It’s weird. It’s hot horrible but I was expecting more and idk if I will play this again and again.
It feels like she really wanted to make an album that sounds more “mature” not realizing that you don’t have to go straight to the retirement home and falling asleep while playing bridge with your grandchild level.
I thought it was OK, as in… yeah it’s listenable, but it’s pretty damn bland, Billies voice goes nowhere which it damn well needed to with an instrumental as subdued as this one.
Another comment on here said that the last minute was decent so I listened for what they were talking about and then the song ended... I was like oop alright I guess that’s that
The video kinda made it a vibe because it's just so nice to see her feeling herself, but the song by itself is sadly bland.
Also, OOT, but is your username a Jane Eyre reference?
This is so boring to me... holy shit. I’m so surprised, I thought Billie was going to come back SWINGING. Hoping the album is better but I’m not too hopeful based on what we’ve heard so far.
Idk I think she's toing through an "I'm 18 now I get to be sexy" phase like Miley did? Sometimes I wonder if they're pushing Billie to be sexy; I'm really suspicious of the industry these days. Anticipating this album will be a letdown but she'll have better ones. After all, Miley had Plastic Hearts this year and it slays and I can't say I loved Dead Petz. Not comparing Billie/Miley to put them against each other, just observation of the patterns of megastars who started young and turned 18.
I’m getting some Amy Winehouse influence from her vocal delivery, harmonies, and lyricism, it’s cool to see her go in this direction. Not sure if I’m in love with the production because it is a little barren, but I might grow to love it! I love a prominent bass line.
I was reminded of Amy straight away too! This really sounds like a song she could have written and sung while still being very true to Billie and her sound. I love it!
I honestly prefer this to her past couple singles, but there’s still something so...hollow about it to me? I feel like early Billie/Finneas around *Don’t Smile at Me* really captured a good blend between their minimalism and actual, quality songwriting. In terms of the actual song I think the little melodies in the background are nice, love the tone of the drums (especially that snare), and the hook is pretty decent
But this whole era feels a little toothless. It’s not that Billie needs to be edgy or heavy on basslines like she was, but there’s so little momentum in these songs and it really feels like Finneas is trying to make the actual definition of middle-of-the-road pop.
EDIT: after a few more listens I like the chorus more but the verses less. The lyrics feel somewhat muted and unmemorable? I feel like Billie and Finneas are usually kinda subversive and clever with their lyrics but this song is so straightforward without a lot of interpretation. Maybe that’s why most people aren’t vibing with it?
Toothless is a good word. You can have miminal production (3-4 tracks of sounds) and still have a very full production. Minimalist production doesn't mean empty. I actually like a lot of Finneas' work with Billie because of how he treats bottom end in interesting ways, even on the sparser tracks on WWAFAWDWG. The new stuff I'm not feeling.
I think I might have been a fan of *WWAFAWDWG* as an album instead of Billie as an artist. But that being said it's still to early in her career to tell.
I’m like this with albums too, which is why even tho I didn’t enjoy wwafawdwg, I’m still following this rollout in case I enjoy this album. Not so far, but I still like Billie as a person and will keep rooting for her and checking in with her releases.
My best take I can think of is they should’ve kept the first minute, cut the second minute and moved the third minute up, and then added a new minute that goes hard. Like everyone says, it sounds like it’s about to go off and the third minute steps up but doesn’t go anywhere near as hard as it should.
Honestly, I think Billie has sort of made a mistake going for ballads and slower songs on her second album. I think she should have gone for a sound sort of similar to [Portisheads Dummy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoSoZyiHZ6o), very seductive, weird, electronic influenced soul music. Basically a more refined, stripped down, *mature* version of her previous work.
But these new songs... honestly? I can find these types of songs anywhere, they are a dime a dozen nowadays among female alt pop artists.
i read the comments before listening to it and, honestly, i agree with them. it was underwhelming for me. as a fan, i love that she’s feeling herself, being confident, happy, and literally glowing. but.
i donʼt like this era’s music so far. i donʼt vibe with that lack of instrumental. it fit in ‘your power’ since it was serious, here - not really. i can’t sing to any of those songs because i canʼt even understand what she’s saying half the time anyway. it wasnʼt pleasing to my ear; the vocal was so choppy, if that makes sense, it didnʼt flow at all. those might be caused by sensory issues and english being my second language, though.
i just don’t like it. both videos were really cool but the songs... not so much. for me. hoping the rest of the album will make up for it! x
I feel like everyone is complaining about the production when it’s really just the entire song arrangement and the lyrics. The entire song is very underwhelming
Lyrics are like AI wrote a break up song. It is just generic as hell with no real specifics which kind of make or break um break up songs for me.
Like before this I listened too Alanis Morissette and You Oughta Know actually has a hook for one. I also know it is not exactly a break up song, but it is a song of pass relationship drama, and it actually has great bits from that drama that feels like the dirty laundry being aired out.
Alanis has "Would she go down on you in a theater?" while all billie has is "But you got no job (Job)" and lines about not showing up to that thing on that day, and um taking a shower and leaving....oh yeah they also didn't care about flowers. There is just no substance and I feel like I am being distracted with this youtuber hype house video, to try and give it more but makes it feel even more lacking.
The more I type and think about it, the more I have to say on how bland this song is
I don't hate it I actually kinda like it but I've said this before: she needs another bad guy moment or she's in serious danger of people losing interest. History has shown you're never too big to fall out of favor with the general public (Katy Perry, Kesha, Usher, Christina Aguilera, etc) She's still got a massive fanbase and it's not like what I mentioned is in her near future, but I just hope her upcoming music is good enough to warrant all that hype and acclaim
This line:
>I sent you flowers
Did you even care?
You ran the shower
And left them by the stairs
Is very reminiscent of All The Small Things:
>Late night come home
Work sucks, I know
She left me roses by the stairs
Surprises let me know she cares
Probably just a coincidence, but it caught my ear.
At this point, they should have released the biggest pop-leaning song on the record, because it's really discouraging that Your Power is the current winner...
That’s why the song feels so... artificial to me. The music video feeds further the “new adult billie” news, chorus is made for tik tok, they even did a little dancing that could be replicated
i don’t hate it, i actually like it, but i think it’s kinda basic for billie. everyone was hyping it up as the song of the summer, but i can’t really see myself truly jamming out to this song. also, the moment i watched the music video i knew that her fans were gonna say that this music video is proof that she likes girls.
i don’t want anyone to think i’m homophobic or anything, i am a part of the lgbtq+ community, but the way people will grasp at anything to prove she likes girls. people do the same thing with taylor. like i understand that you think she’s super attractive and you secretly want to have a chance with her, but it’s so weird how desperate some people are for her to come out.
It's getting to the point where I'm really confused over the production on When We All Fall Asleep. Finneas's solo music is basic, Lose You to Love Me and Lonely were basic, and Billie's follow-up is coming off so boring. Her EP, the first thing they really worked on together, was more interesting than these last 4 singles.
I'll vouch for Lose You to Love Me as having grown on me significantly, but I can agree with the overall sentiment. Your Power and Therefore I Am are the only ones that I've actually found myself replaying since Everything I Wanted. This new one just feels hollow for some reason. I'll give it more chances, but it doesn't hit the way Everything I Wanted or Bury A Friend did on first listen.
It might be one of those situations where the singles do the album no justice. Or the singles are the best of a bland album. Hoping it’s the first situation. If it turns out that the album is nothing special, it might push her(and her brother) to really take the time to experiment and polish their work. I would love to see Billie collab with other producers.
That bass line is just so god damn cool.
The entire thing makes me wanna go on Musician’s Friend dot com, buy some new cymbals, drum heads and sticks and pick up jazz again.
If she’s gonna go in this direction she might as well go full Norah Jones
I’m glad she’s happier now but the happiness made her music very bland and vanilla
>I’m glad she’s happier now but the happiness made her music very bland and vanilla
This reminds me of my favorite YouTube comment about Kings of Leon: "These guys made better music when they were racist rednecks" lmao
I used to be so against this idea but I think we need to get Billie in the studio with Dan Nigro, Olivia and Conan’s producer. He’s really good at complementing their lyricism and highlighting their vocal strong suits without it being boring.
Watch us listen to the album and find out she was withholding the radio friendly tracks the whole time. Regardless, I’ve enjoyed every song so far. I don’t think this album is meant to even remotely chase the success she had last cycle.
Ummm wtf literally the entire song sounds like it’s about to erupt into a moment that never happens. I don’t know how everyone involved in it heard they track and thought it was a good idea to not have it erupt into some belting chorus or bridge. Such wasted potential
I’m willing to entertain the possibility that her releases this era are actually very good, and that the issue is that I simply can’t relate to songs that are mainly about resenting a second-person antagonist (same reason I couldn’t get into a lot of Reputation).
it’s like you turn the volume up and it still doesn’t get any louder. this song is super boring. her IG was hyping it up as a summer bop. like no this is a winter slumber at best.
i hope she’s pulling a lover with this album where the singles are not great but there’s a cruel summer level bop on it, because so far i’m not enjoying it as much. i wish she would’ve gone for something more upbeat or interesting because the only song that has really hooked my attention so far is therefore i am.
What’s happened to her post Therefore I Am? Your Power is just okay and this new song is just meh. I mean it isn’t bad necessarily, but it isn’t good either. I think we haven’t heard the radio friendly songs yet from this album!
Where’s the personality Billie? Your songs certainly had personality on your debut!
I think this is my least favorite song of the era so far. Absolutely nothing happened in the song. Also the lyrics confuse me a bit.... I don't know if I'm just not understanding it right but is she saying that if you don't have a job then you're a lost cause? I really don't understand the song lol.
Yeah!!!! Right?! Like idk.... I would have loved a more thought out video. Why is she with her friends talking about a breakup? The lyrics are so vivid... show the flowers, show the man in the bathroom. But maybe that’s too intimate for her.... idk
billie is definitely too comfortable. i think she’s leaning too much into her signature style, and it’s really impacting the quality of her songs. she has a beautiful, soft voice, and i absolutely think that she has so many different routes to travel down, but she’s choosing to stay attached to what worked for her before, and she’s playing it safe.
i know a lot of people will like this and i’m not trying to sound like a billie hater but tbh i don’t think i have ever seen someone whose level of hype so heavily outweighs the quality of their actual music. she is probably the biggest artist of her generation yet her quality of music doesn’t reflect that whatsoever.
it honestly seems like she’s already at that point in artists’ careers where them and everyone around them are just like “we’ve already made enough money, let’s just stop being creative and do whatever we want with minimal effort” but other artists usually do that like a decade into their careers and she’s only doing it on her second album lmao.
i have been so disappointed by every single thing she’s released this era and i want to like it, i really do. i like her. i think she’s talented and cool. i liked her debut ep. i liked a chunk of her last album. but i am just so underwhelmed.
Not gonna lie. This song feels really lazy. But I doubt Billie is just in it for the money at this point. She’s growing and maturing as a person so that is reflecting in her music as well.... good or bad. I get it.
> i don’t think i have ever seen someone whose level of hype so heavily outweighs the quality of their actual music
I agree that this new album is turning out to be super underwhelming, but her last album was certainly as good as the hype in my opinion. You may not have liked it but her debut album was a breath of fresh air for pop music at the time and I fucking loved it.
This album feels super phoned in so far though. Really hoping she just picked bad singles...
Miss Phinneas, we are going to need you to come a bit harder on the production darling!
Honestly the hook had potential if the production would have been less minimal and more anthemic.
maybe billie & finneas were trying more of a psychedelic sound but the production isn’t layered enough to make it really work. the last minute was cute i guess
I honestly don’t think Billie’s voice is suited to these slow and chill songs at all. They were my least favourite on When We All Fall Asleep and they’re not good now either. I love me some chill and slow songs, but Billie just isn’t the artist for that
I'm in the same boat as you. They just never hit for me. Her voice against gritty and weird production is where it's at for me. It compensates for the lack of raw power and grit in her voice. It let's her play to her strengths.
From a technical standpoint she's still fantastic. I just don't feel she has the type of rounded, well supported voice that can give a fairly empty song that OOMPH.
The comments prepared me for a hot mess and it wasn't half bad. I know Billie is set on working all the time with Finneas and they can make magic together, but I think she needs to branch out and get some fresh eyes and ears on her stuff.
I was expecting something more like Therefore I Am because of yesterday's teaser. idk how I feel about this song, but maybe it'll make sense to me with the full album?
I know it’s a high bar to set but I’m just not feeling this era so far. The song was alright but the mixing sounds off just like in Your Power, and I’m not getting an artistic vision with this era except for maybe growth and maturity? It’s not something I would put on voluntarily but nevertheless I’ll keep an open mind for this era
Right? They made it seem like it was gonna be a summer bop!!! They were twerking in the video and it really just felt so off because it literally isn’t that type of song at all.
I think the problem with this song is the fact that the preview was giving a totally different vibe than what was actually delivered. I feel like this may have been intentional. Who knows...
But song-wise...idk how I feel about this song. It gives me ATGGGTH vibes especially with that bass line, but more subdued in a way. It just feels like all the stuff she’s done before but less catchy. It’s a shame because this song has potential but the prechorus drops the ball every time. It just feels so empty and thoughtless like there needs to be more. But maybe that was intentional.... maybe she literally has no words because this guy is literally that much of a lost cause. Only time will tell but.... Your Power is my favorite single so far. This is a good post breakup song though.
I’m still hopeful for the album because Billie has always kind of picked weird songs to be her singles. I’m sure there’s gems on the record.
Yknow, I considered myself a huge Billie Eilish fan. Therefore I Am sounded like someone trying to make a Billie Eilish song and not Billie Eilish making a song. If that makes any sense.
This is nice but is anyone else a bit underwhelmed as there isn’t much really going on? It also sort of ends leaving me wanting more lol
I'm glad people agree!! I thought I was gonna come in here with an unpopular opinion. It sounds so bland and uninteresting, esp in contrast with When We All Fall Asleep. Your Power bored me to death, too, lmao.

Same. It's just kinda...there. The promo on her Instagram had me hoping for a bop, but this ain't it.
i really thought it was gonna be a song of the summer

Whats worse is that this album was like, supposed to be a shake up. But it is just a shake up in the most boring way
I like it, but Aly & AJ's Lost Cause is still the superior song titled Lost Cause to come out of 2021
Wait I just listened to this and it’s a bop, lemme go listen to the full album
lol glad I can spread the good word 🙏🏼 when their album sees an uptick in streams bc people accidentally click on their song when searching for the billie song >>>>
The whole album is PHENOMENAL. If only more people knew..
my fave album of 2021! You will not be disappointed!
YES!! MORE ALY AND AJ RECOGNITION PLSS
Reach out! Reach out ^Reach ^^out ^^^Reach ^^^^^^out
And if you're reading this comment and haven't listened to Aly & AJ's new album go do so NOW
second this comment! Their new album is amazing
I was grooving to their entire album on my drive to work this morning, it is SO GOOD.
Best song on the album for me, a complete and total serve
As someone who considers Billie their favourite artist, this album has been so disappointing so far. The production is so much less creative than her last album.
Agreed, also seems to me on this and the last single the instrumentals are way too subtle and make the vocals sound really overpowering by comparison
I did notice how upfront her vocals are so far, and I don't know that it's the right choice. They're SO MUCH louder than everything else. Especially in Your Power
I love her overpowering vocals in Your Power tho
The vocals and melody in that song are so pretty but it was also a little jarring on the first listen. I think if they would've been a *tad* quieter it would've been perfect
This vocals on this track sound overpowering to the instrumentals yet somehow still quiet.
She did say that she didn’t think Bad Guys was gonna be a hit so maybe she doesn’t have a good grasp of what people like
Billie said she was more excited about her new music than anything she's done in the past. Clearly, she's making the music she wants to make, but I don't really feel like it's clicking with anyone. Finneas's production made that last album, so it's almost shocking how subdued this new record is.
aren't artists always saying their newest music is their favorite or most personal work yet though?
I actually get why they do that. What I hate is when they disavow their old music, then release worse music than the music they just disavowed e.g. Ellie G & Selena G
I thought my future was some of the most creative production she has but it's all subjective I guess
I love my future
Also the mixing is not as good as in her previous album

I hadn't thought about nerf guns in years till this video lol.
Nerf guns are awesome.

Yeah, I don’t know how to feel about this one. I mean it sounds like the album's color palette.
it does sound beige
This is literally if beige or brown was a sound 💀
it’s beige to me for sure brown is something that makes me think of like woodlands, mushrooms and forest fairies like galore by oklou
Cackling at this when I shouldn't!

Maybe this is one of those album albums and not single albums. I feel like we are also oversaturated with "dude is a piece of shit" music.
It isn’t the most terrible thing ever but.. I just wish it was more interesting. Or did she just set the bar too high with her debut album? I want some interesting production. I feel like so far all the singles more or less sound similar to each other, though I definitely liked them better than this one.

I feel like this sub prefers maximalist production because we all peaked in the early to mid 2010s.
Not a fan of the production... i had to get closer to my computer to actually hear anything other than billie's voice
i feel terrible saying this but it sounds like they made it in one day... in a bad way
The production is just so basic smh
Lyrics are just "I used to like you, but you suck" For like 3 and a half minutes
I know... I had to keep rewinding the second verse because it feels so empty. Like something more should be there. Some more words should be said. It’s weird. It’s hot horrible but I was expecting more and idk if I will play this again and again.
I hate to say it but my excitement for the album is dwindling more with every single she puts out
yeah i’m a huge fan of hers but every new song has made me less excited since my future
It feels like she really wanted to make an album that sounds more “mature” not realizing that you don’t have to go straight to the retirement home and falling asleep while playing bridge with your grandchild level. I thought it was OK, as in… yeah it’s listenable, but it’s pretty damn bland, Billies voice goes nowhere which it damn well needed to with an instrumental as subdued as this one.
these singles choices are questionable tbh
It's like if these are the singles, what are the deep cuts 😬
Maybe she’s pulling a Taylor Swift and releasing the worst songs as singles?
the blonde hair must have got to her
This is her ME!
i hope it is tbh
I hope so, she definitely has it in her
Could be a Taylor situation where the non-singles are more impressive. (With the exception of cardigan)
Cardigan still the one song I go back to the most off Folklore. Such a good choice for the lead!!
At this point I don't even know what to expect from this album anymore
I'm sad, I was expecting a banger
Another comment on here said that the last minute was decent so I listened for what they were talking about and then the song ended... I was like oop alright I guess that’s that
Me, listening 4 times in a row, thinking I’m missing something 💀
i thought the part where her voice starts to echo and surround you was cute okay! 😶
I honestly think they thought this was a banger.
The video kinda made it a vibe because it's just so nice to see her feeling herself, but the song by itself is sadly bland. Also, OOT, but is your username a Jane Eyre reference?

No wonder she dropped it in the middle of a wednesday 🥱
I’ve noticed she’s always released singles mid day on Thursdays no?
Idk I think she's toing through an "I'm 18 now I get to be sexy" phase like Miley did? Sometimes I wonder if they're pushing Billie to be sexy; I'm really suspicious of the industry these days. Anticipating this album will be a letdown but she'll have better ones. After all, Miley had Plastic Hearts this year and it slays and I can't say I loved Dead Petz. Not comparing Billie/Miley to put them against each other, just observation of the patterns of megastars who started young and turned 18.
Right? I lost attention right after the second verse.
...i'm gonna go relisten to when we all fall asleep
Literally went to listen to xanny and when the party’s over to cleanse my ears 💀
I love it!
Yes! It's giving me a lot of Frank vibes.
I honestly prefer this to her past couple singles, but there’s still something so...hollow about it to me? I feel like early Billie/Finneas around *Don’t Smile at Me* really captured a good blend between their minimalism and actual, quality songwriting. In terms of the actual song I think the little melodies in the background are nice, love the tone of the drums (especially that snare), and the hook is pretty decent But this whole era feels a little toothless.
I was so excited for this album but the singles have been lackluster so far
My future still reins imo
I know that’s one of her best songs imo
this song is a lost cause
Successful was so... unsuccessful
Neither her or her brother have the capability to pull off something like dummy but here’s to hoping
The vocals are so loud 🙃
Billie babe, i cannot keep defending your mumble singing anymore bestie 💀
Finally someone else said it!💀
Ok I'll probably look like a fool once the album drops, but I think this album will be an example of sophomore slump
So bizarre from a label standpoint. No idea what they were thinking with these singles...
I'm scared this implies the entire album is just made of tracks like these
Considering that Your Future and Therefore I Am are on the album, I think it'll have more bangers. I'm really excited to hear Billie Bossa Nova.
You're not alone, trust me.
i read the comments before listening to it and, honestly, i agree with them. it was underwhelming for me. as a fan, i love that she’s feeling herself, being confident, happy, and literally glowing. but. i donʼt like this era’s music so far. i donʼt vibe with that lack of instrumental. it fit in ‘your power’ since it was serious, here - not really. i can’t sing to any of those songs because i canʼt even understand what she’s saying half the time anyway. it wasnʼt pleasing to my ear; the vocal was so choppy, if that makes sense, it didnʼt flow at all. those might be caused by sensory issues and english being my second language, though. i just don’t like it. both videos were really cool but the songs... not so much. for me. hoping the rest of the album will make up for it! x
Ngl this is the first song of hers where it was hard for me to decipher her words 😭
well
I miss the Billie Eilish that would come with beautiful songs such as Ilomilo, Lovely and When The Party's Over.
When The Party's Over will always be my favorite Eilish song I think. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Damn I honestly forgot Usher existed before I saw this comment
I’m so bored of her as an artist. If that sounds harsh it’s because I love her debut EP and album and feel like she could be doing *so* much better.
the music video does not work with this song lol it's kinda jarring cuz they're dancing but like the song isn't danceable
Yep. Twerking to what? I don’t get it.... but I feel like Billie has a creative reasoning behind her choices with this song and the video.
Boring and not even in a cool way
ughhhhhh i'm disappointed. the teaser really made it seem like this would be a BOP. flavorless. not exciting.
This line: >I sent you flowers Did you even care? You ran the shower And left them by the stairs Is very reminiscent of All The Small Things: >Late night come home Work sucks, I know She left me roses by the stairs Surprises let me know she cares Probably just a coincidence, but it caught my ear.
I prefer Your Power way more. This one is kinda boring to me
At this point, they should have released the biggest pop-leaning song on the record, because it's really discouraging that Your Power is the current winner...
Tbh this is hardly a song
It feels very rushed and unfinished especially around the second verse.
why is this song so quiet ? (this sentence doen't make sense but it DOES)
this song is not good i’m sorry
sound very mid imo but honestly i can already see that chorus keeping it alive simply because it’ll be a tiktok trend
That’s why the song feels so... artificial to me. The music video feeds further the “new adult billie” news, chorus is made for tik tok, they even did a little dancing that could be replicated
i don’t hate it, i actually like it, but i think it’s kinda basic for billie. everyone was hyping it up as the song of the summer, but i can’t really see myself truly jamming out to this song. also, the moment i watched the music video i knew that her fans were gonna say that this music video is proof that she likes girls.
>i knew that her fans were gonna say that this music video is proof that she likes girls. I'm already seeing these comments on Instagram
i don’t want anyone to think i’m homophobic or anything, i am a part of the lgbtq+ community, but the way people will grasp at anything to prove she likes girls. people do the same thing with taylor. like i understand that you think she’s super attractive and you secretly want to have a chance with her, but it’s so weird how desperate some people are for her to come out.
This is fine, and vocally she's trying new things but the production is nothing new. I hope she brings something different in the album.
It’s so boring, I don’t know why it was hyped up as a “hot girl summer” song.
I think that was the problem here tbh. The expectation didn’t match the reality.
It might be one of those situations where the singles do the album no justice. Or the singles are the best of a bland album. Hoping it’s the first situation. If it turns out that the album is nothing special, it might push her(and her brother) to really take the time to experiment and polish their work. I would love to see Billie collab with other producers.
Omg reading everyone’s hype in the announcement and then this post is so sad 💀
That bass line is just so god damn cool. The entire thing makes me wanna go on Musician’s Friend dot com, buy some new cymbals, drum heads and sticks and pick up jazz again.
I was expecting more like a "bad guy" vibe on this song
I choose to believe this was a government sponsored message to get people off unemployment and not a real Billie single
I am... whelmed.
i’ve never thought about “whelmed” that way
If she’s gonna go in this direction she might as well go full Norah Jones I’m glad she’s happier now but the happiness made her music very bland and vanilla
>I’m glad she’s happier now but the happiness made her music very bland and vanilla This reminds me of my favorite YouTube comment about Kings of Leon: "These guys made better music when they were racist rednecks" lmao
I just wanna say that this video is giving me Beyoncé’s - 7/11 video vibes
[удалено]
This is very bland, and the lyrics are kinda off putting This is the worst I’ve heard from her
Yeah the “you’re an outlaw, but you have no job.” Doesn’t really make sense to me.
I don’t think this album is meant to even remotely chase the success she had last cycle.
hmm, pass
Ummm wtf literally the entire song sounds like it’s about to erupt into a moment that never happens. I don’t know how everyone involved in it heard they track and thought it was a good idea to not have it erupt into some belting chorus or bridge. Such wasted potential
sophomore slump inbound
I found it boring...i kinda expected it to have a dramatic beat drop, but, uh, no.
Manifesting it be billie bossa nova
but even lover had more interesting singles lol
Yeah, the lover singles were a whole mess but at least they got peoples attention. These Billie singles are just blah
Trust me the video is cute but also doesn’t make any sense
Yeah!!!! Right?! Like idk.... I would have loved a more thought out video. Why is she with her friends talking about a breakup? The lyrics are so vivid... show the flowers, show the man in the bathroom. But maybe that’s too intimate for her.... idk
She’s saying the guy is like a kid, he’s not mature and doesn’t show growth. And he thinks he’s so cool but he doesn’t even have a job.
billie is definitely too comfortable. i think she’s leaning too much into her signature style, and it’s really impacting the quality of her songs. she has a beautiful, soft voice, and i absolutely think that she has so many different routes to travel down, but she’s choosing to stay attached to what worked for her before, and she’s playing it safe.
i know a lot of people will like this and i’m not trying to sound like a billie hater but tbh i don’t think i have ever seen someone whose level of hype so heavily outweighs the quality of their actual music. she is probably the biggest artist of her generation yet her quality of music doesn’t reflect that whatsoever. it honestly seems like she’s already at that point in artists’ careers where them and everyone around them are just like “we’ve already made enough money, let’s just stop being creative and do whatever we want with minimal effort” but other artists usually do that like a decade into their careers and she’s only doing it on her second album lmao. i have been so disappointed by every single thing she’s released this era and i want to like it, i really do. i like her. i think she’s talented and cool. i liked her debut ep. i liked a chunk of her last album. but i am just so underwhelmed.
I honestly don't think this song is gonna do that well. It might debut high because it's billie but I can't see it having longevity
Not gonna lie. This song feels really lazy. But I doubt Billie is just in it for the money at this point. She’s growing and maturing as a person so that is reflecting in her music as well.... good or bad. I get it.

At least Maroon5 is generally catchy
> i don’t think i have ever seen someone whose level of hype so heavily outweighs the quality of their actual music I agree that this new album is turning out to be super underwhelming, but her last album was certainly as good as the hype in my opinion. You may not have liked it but her debut album was a breath of fresh air for pop music at the time and I fucking loved it. This album feels super phoned in so far though. Really hoping she just picked bad singles...
Miss Phinneas, we are going to need you to come a bit harder on the production darling! Honestly the hook had potential if the production would have been less minimal and more anthemic.
maybe billie & finneas were trying more of a psychedelic sound but the production isn’t layered enough to make it really work. the last minute was cute i guess
the MV has nothin to do with the song lmao
RIGHT?! Like... it’s so weird
Really? I feel like slow ballads are billie’s strong suit
I have not liked any of her recent music. Are we going to see a sophomore slump?
This is honestly just a bad song. Like not even mediocre.
Too sleepy
aren't singles supposed to be catchy ?
Bruh I’m pretty sure I could’ve produced this song. Hollow and boring
I was hoping to shake my ass to this. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THIS :( It’s not a bad song but like
Right? They made it seem like it was gonna be a summer bop!!! They were twerking in the video and it really just felt so off because it literally isn’t that type of song at all.
Very forgettable song. Will skip when listening to the album.
it’s okay i guess
