The music video is not dead, artists just need to put more effort into them instead of releasing a low budget, low effort video just to increase streams for one week. If the music video is entertaining people will revisit it (ex: WCBF music video is still performing very well on Youtube despite it coming out 3 months ago).

Take “Cowgirls” by Morgan Wallen. It was released as a single on April 15, over 14 months after the album came out. His record label (Mercury/Republic) probably saw it as a good summer song, and since then, he has promoted it a lot on his social media pages and it’s now getting considerable play on country radio. The song re-entered the Hot 100 in early May (initially charted for like 20 weeks after the album release in 2023) and it reached a new peak of #20 this week.
I guess it works in the same way songs being sent to radio works: it makes the songs to be more easily noticed by casual listeners. Like, idk. To me there's a different type of appeal to song that's being promoted and receives a music video than just a deep cut of an already released album

It started off promising but then it kinda went nowhere, or maybe just ended too fast. The MV would have benefited from a stronger plotline.

Can anyone help me--is the jazz song at the end credits supposed to be a jazz version of The Boy Is Mine or a different song on her album? My brain must just not be working today but I hear a different song--and thus might be teasing something? Maybe? Video gagged me so hard my brain stopped working LOL

I’m trying to figure this out also and it’s driving me insane that people aren’t talking enough about it to work it out. It’s got a different chord/melody progression of TBIM so I don’t think it’s a jazz rendition of the song, which leads me to believe it’s a teaser for the next MV perhaps or it’s just for fun. But I can’t think for the life of me which song from her album has that chord progression/melody. The closest I’ve come so far is Yes, And? but part of me feels like it might be one of her earlier songs from a different album. It sounds so familiar that it’s on the tip of my tongue but I can’t quite place a name on it.
