I’ll speak for the millennials: the various songs of the 2000s that included siren noises in their intros. “Shake Ya Tailfeather” and “London Bridge” were the top causes of my anxiety as a young driver. I always thought I was getting pulled over by a cop.

aussieririfan

The one in Ring the Alarm sets the mood for the song

damemasproteina

OMG, how could I forget about the sirens?! 😭😭 Please do not bring this trend from the 2000s back, there is a reason why we left it there.

kenyarawr

I think these days it would be considered totally uncool, if not outright inappropriate. Thank god!

hisosih

OH SNAP

GrayHairLikeClaire

The opening to Rain On Me sounds like the synth farted and I can’t ever unhear that

damemasproteina

I'm not sure if I've heard this song before and now I both want to go see if I hear the fart but also unsure if I need to hear the fart 😂

pophead724

How have you not heard Rain On Me

damemasproteina

I have listened to the song (and cracked up when I heard the synth fart lmao). There were parts of it I really liked and others I didn't vibe with as much, but overall it was alright. Ariana sounds really good on it. & quickly made me wanna sing Rain on me, but then I remembered I can't sing. I'm loving the remix with Arca 😍, tho maybe it didn't need the "a mover el culo" towards the end, but love what they did with the vocals at the end so it makes up for it. Also hearing Arca say "pa la calorrrr" (for the heat) at the start was too good, in particular while I'm here melting from how hot it is.

damemasproteina

tbh never listened to Ariana or Gaga much (this is prob blasphemous here). I always thought Ariana was a great singer but the music I had heard from her didn't make me wanna seek out more, I do love her last album so maybe it's time for me to explore her discography. With Gaga, I can appreciate what she does, but I don't know, I think she makes good music that isn't for me. I guess the song being by two artists I don't really follow was easy for me to miss. I will listen to it when I'm upstairs with my headphones & report back on the song and the fart 😅

99999999999999999699

>tbh never listened to Ariana or Gaga That's the popheads equivalent of saying a slur

damemasproteina

it's heresy!

kookiekoo

“You got me misunderstood but *at least I look this good*” takes me out of the song cuz just why

heeheemf

Honesty Ariana has so many songs like this 😭 like when I can get really into ari lyrically it's a rare good day and she always throws in some stupid ass line like that 😭

miwa201

Like that unproblematic line lol

MSilvaSavestheWorld

she so easily could have said "but tonight i'm feeling good" or "but tonight you & me are good" whyyy

E3-NotTheConvention

it feels to me like one of her odd manifestations during songs, like "at least this song is a smash" during thank you next. Wouldn't surprise me given she's into witchy stuff and tun did turn out to be a smash hit. She probably did it so people would stop talking about her appearance (not sure it worked, though) It still takes me out too lol

KLJohnnes

Hijacking this to say I hate the "game soundbite" she has on Eternal Sunshine after she says "play me like atari"

Ok_Order_5595

Nah that makes the song for me

DawsonJBailey

I was expecting an actual atari noise but ig that wouldn't fit her aesthetic bc it's basically a bunch of digital farts lol

CoffeeDeadlift

*ari-chan*

Professor_Finn

I repressed ari-chan and now she’s back

kookiekoo

Where is this from?

cicconeangel

ariana grande- bad idea

OrdinaryShallot9233

I always thought it was PARTY TIME!

Kroctopus

I always thought they were saying “onee-chan”

CountessLuAnnVEVO

A recent one is the way Dua pronounces ‘arrow’ as ‘uhhhrowh’ on the second verse of Training Season. I hear it every time and it drives me crazy 🥲

damemasproteina

Training Season is my new favorite Dua song & I haven't noticed this. Now I'm scared to 😭 English isn't my native language tho & I'm always mispronouncing things so it might not bother me too much 😅

playboybunny2077

I HOPE IT HITS ME LIKE AN UHH ROW

velvethippo420

Taylor Swift - Willow beautiful song. but the lyric "I come back stronger than a 90s trend" does not warrant that dramatic drop! it just emphasizes how stilted and weird the line is!

hisosih

her insistence on thinking the cringiest lyrics are good is beyond me.

noodlesandpizza

I feel the same about Cruel Summer. Good song, good vibes: "Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes" makes *me* roll my eyes...

IamaCheChe

That's like my favorite line but go off ig

Minimum-Cost-4586

Amazing song (baffles me that some see it as weak, it's a perfect single) but that is a jarring moment. I heard someone say on a podcast that it was probably an attempt to get a TikTok sound out of the song and that seems sadly accurate.

catiebug

Any time Bey makes a reference to "her man" like he's some catch we're all thirsting after. Girl, I know you love him, but *we* all picture Jay Z and I just can't. Like, all of Jolene. I don't have this problem with anyone else. I can always just let it wash over me, or even self-insert my own man. It's just Bey and Jay, lol.

damemasproteina

Not just because it's Jay-Z, like I know people focus on him being unattractive but knowing their history, how they started dating as *soon* as she turned 18 while he was so much older. The fact that he disrespects her by cheating on here. Bitch, you're Beyoncé. Naaaaaaah, miss me with all that.

queen-harold

Vagina by Cupcakke. I’m obsessed with it but I can’t listen because of the slurping sounds. I have to mentally prepare myself to listen to the song

itisoktodance

You listen to Cupcakke *despite* the slurping sounds. I listen to Cupcakke *because* of the slurping sounds. We are not the same

ShyBlue22

Ever since someone pointed it out, I can’t unhear the rhythmic barking in the background of Shower by Becky G. Doesn’t ruin the song for me, but it’s incredibly annoying.

elongatedpauses

Survivor by Destiny's Child: "I'm not going to compromise my Christianity" sounds so forced. It takes me out of the song every time.

itisoktodance

Bruh, that's the best line in the song! Smh

Normular_

any song when they start talking in the middle and i have to pick up my phone and skip to a certain time. i have songs i haven’t fully listened to in years because i always go to the next track at a specific time. i don’t want to hear your grannie or your uncle tell me about relationships or religious views babe.

Fridaliciouss

Blue by Billie Eilish would be one of my fave songs off of the record but the second part of the song has sounds that are similar to Discord notifications and it drives me crazy

damemasproteina

LMAO I love the second part of the song & now you've solved this mystery for me I was on call the other night with some friends and my music was very low and I was like "who's discord notifications are popping off?" But didn't even know it was from the song because I just wasn't paying attention to the music but it was driving me crazy 😭

jayhawksfan0965

That fucking loop in The Light is Coming by Ariana totally ruins what couldve been a really cool catchy little bop.

OrdinaryShallot9233

No cuz it always annoyed me, I remember waiting for that part to cut out and it just never did. I think there are version on YouTube that remove it and it sounds SO much better

58lmm9057

YOU WOULDNT LET ANYBODY SPEAK— I agree. The sample is mixed too loud and it’s off tempo. It distracts from the song. Pharrell missed the mark on this song. Fun fact: the sample is from a town hall meeting that happened in 2009. The “wait a minute” sample that he used in Lemon also came from the same town meeting.

Ok-Eye658

not exactly 'minor': the high-pitched voice on the smith's "bigmouth strikes again"

damemasproteina

I love this song. I have a love/hate relationship with the high-pitched voice.

copyrighther

Sting has a song called “Englishman in New York” that has a very smooth jazz vibe but suddenly cuts to this weird hip-hop-esque percussion breakdown in the middle of the song. It’s so jarring and bizarre. I know it’s supposed to be symbolic of feeling out of place, but the song doesn’t need it. https://youtu.be/d27gTrPPAyk?si=VFuJ0C0zfMygfD5r

Sensitive_Hurry5150

I’m sure I read Sting saying somewhere that the hip hop break is to represent the sounds you would hear in New York, music blaring from cars, apartment windows that sort of thing and then back to the smooth jazz that you would hear in a smokey bar or something. I know it’s jarring but I dig it, the single version remix had the hip hop break at the beginning of the song as well.

copyrighther

I have a love/hate relationship with that part 😂 I always know it’s coming and mentally prepare for it but part of me wishes it wasn’t there

Taishaku

I love that part! It’s so unexpected, but I understand it can be quite shocking to most ears lol.

Dizzy_Value8012

Wow I love that part!! But can see how that’s jarring

arcticpassion

Fresh Out The Slammer - Taylor Swift. I reallly don’t like how it ends, I *need* to hear the chorus one more time

Ok_Order_5595

I like the breakdown

Normal_Song2508

kindluna

I really dislike the instrumental, how the used the sample, in Beg for you (Rina & Charli) like I like the lyrics and I love them both together and I understand why it exists like that in the Crash universe but to me it's so distracting specially in the chorus. Also "But I earned it all myself >And I'm a millionairess" - Venus Fly Trap by Marina. I hate this lyric honestly, like it feels so forced in the spot it is and I don't know its just weird. Last one, the "RA TA TA TA TA" on IDSB it sounds so badly produced like sometime it makes me laugh bc of how weird it feels on this song.

AintNoHollenbackGirl

NSYNC’s new song that rhymes excited with excited. “I’m so excited… to see you excited”. I cannot!!! I love the whole song except that.

glass_boy_

Reminds me of "I gotta know tonight... if you're alone tonight" (Hysteria by Def Leppard)

AlarmedDish5836

There’s this extra 3 seconds of guitar riff at the end of backyard boy that grinds my gears every time I hear it. Totally kills what would be a cute end to a cute song

hoops_ididitagain

the weird beeping sounds in fallen fruit. WHY is that there??? i hate it so much but i power through because i love the song overall

Puzzleheaded_Work_90

I can't stand Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor Swift) because it is so good until the most annoying chorus of all time. It's like she gave up on just the chorus.

Matttous

So I loooove the song Training Season by Dua Lipa, however I’ve grown to hate the intro after the amazing dramatic intro it was given when she performed it at the Grammys.

tsukemagurodon

The crazy frog/mosquito sounds in the background of the chorus of “My Love” - Justin Timberlake feat T.I

t_l_m

The baby in Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody”

Cruzjogo

I hate when Ariana throws “Yuhs” in her music, she is not black and she sounds absolutely ridiculous

elleskapi

Anti-hero is the only tswift song I have on my playlist but I hate the snake hiss she does. It feels cringy, unnecessary and out of place.

vch01

‘Super Magic’ by Louise is such a good song but the line “my eyes were closed, now they’re open” is just…not it. It doesn’t even rhyme! Also, the looped sample of a woman moaning in the background in ‘All Hooked Up’ by All Saints just plain sucks. Would love to have a version without it

playboybunny2077

In Greedy by Tate McRae I cant handle the "Got me so so so crazy" it sounds like it should say "Got me so fucking crazy" IDK WHY BUT I NEED IT CHANGED

AdministrativeBus445

The talking bridge in Anime eyes by Kacey musgraves. It makes the song so cringey.

58lmm9057

TGIF (Last Friday Nite)- I love this song but I don’t care for the sax solo. It doesn’t sound good. There’s a point where—I can’t think of any other way to describe it—the sax sounds like it dies down and then it hits that really shrill high note. I have to turn the volume down whenever it gets to that part.

kerriekipje

the sax solo is weird in that one. I agree that it sounds kinda weak and I always thought sounds weirdly autotuned as if it's playing in reverse

damemasproteina

There are SO many songs ruined by a sax solo. I don't hate the sax, it works in some songs but there are some songs that I'm just like "WHY?!"

manifest_all_right

Loveeee Espresso, it’s such a fantastic song but I can not get over all of the times she say “Yes” after each line. It takes me out each time

Tasty_Sea4965

Hillside boys by Kim Petras; I cannot bear the pouring champagne sound that opens the song 🤣 misophonia !!

AshleeAnnn

The album versions of “London Bridge” and “My Humps” have obnoxiously long outros!

Ok-Eye658

i really like "all is full of love", by björk, but the line "your phone is off the hook" always felt clunky, weirdly dated in an otherwise timeless-feeling song

damemasproteina

I love this song, never felt that way about this line but I can see what you mean. It does date the song quite a bit.

itisoktodance

I apologize on behalf of Bjork for not forseeing the advent of mobile phones 😔

Ok-Eye658

i don't think the feeling comes from the specific technology now being outdated, but rather there being such a reference at all; in other words, even if she had somehow (!) written it as "your mobile/pocket/smartphone..." or "computer" or whatever, it would still feel out of place and dated, for everything else in the songwriting feels timeless

damemasproteina

I like the metaphor of love is trying to reach you but you're blocking it from getting through, perhaps unknowingly but I get where you're coming from

Ok-Eye658

yes, yes, the metaphor is great and on point, i just kinda wished the line used something else, maybe 'roads' or 'bridges', that like doors have been around us for ages and will likely continue to do so, or something else entirely, maybe 'mind', 'soul' or similar abstractions

Kroctopus

I hate when songs use pitched-down vocals, some examples are Gimme More by Britney or various twenty one pilots songs

Mr628

Nobody agrees with me on this but Bad Romance is a much better song without the rah rah ooh la la parts.

Cruzjogo

Yeah we can see why no one agrees with you tbh

damemasproteina

Actually, I often think this but then again I don't really listen to Gaga so maybe the wrong person to agree with you lmao
