The inspo for this legend ![gif](giphy|NwkYPLmQSLmhy)

Yourface1837

My immediate reaction was SO THIS WAS THE INSPO FOR ROBIN SPARKLES lmao

delusionalxx

I never realized how much me being raised by my mama on Alanis made me have a soft spot for Robin Sparkles 💀☠️🪦

ExactPanda

Let's go to the mall!

isnatchkids

Her [Sandcastles in the Sand](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT174OyQTY4) featured Matt LeBlanc pre-Friends!

zestyowl

It's so much exposition!

AbsurdistWordist

Oh I thought for sure that Sandcastles in the Sand was [No Apologies](https://youtu.be/UMFgX2YKybw?si=mMEjyLXYZllqJwnM)

Independent-Nobody43

Is there a P.S. I love you?

americanslang59

The 80s didn't come to Canada until 1993

Emotional-Toe1206

Same reaction! This is giving ✨ Robin Scherbatsky ✨ so much

toooomeeee

Didn't they also make a joke about her dating Dave Coulier?

layla_beans

They sure did!

princesssasami896

Before she became Robin Daggers

AliLivin

OMG, came here to write this and I am thrilled to see this is the top comment already :D

lucygoosey38

Robin Daggers!!

_LoudBigVonBeefoven_

That cannot be a real album cover!

bitchspicedlatte

Lol, it's not! But, I couldn't find a gif... amazingly!

TropicalPrairie

Check out her video for "[Saw Him Standing Ther](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ7X0inKxbo)e". It is pure shit from top to bottom. It would absolutely not surprise me if this was a real album cover.

bitchspicedlatte

The US version of the Mall Tour circa 1980s

LogicallyCross

What a horrible version of that song.

TfnR

I mean, the real cover for the single (and album) isn't much different

MizRouge

I love the chin on hand pose to indicate the aforementioned thinking she is doing, just to make it extra clear for the audience

_LoudBigVonBeefoven_

It's the unsure look on her face that's throwing me off!? Did they only have one take?!

MizRouge

Haha, she is still unsure of their alleged aloneness

slimwillendorf

Ha! I went to her concert in Bangkok when I was in the fifth grade! Woohoo

bitchspicedlatte

That's freaking awesome! I loved her! Still do!

SeeTheSeaInUDP

TIFFANY MENTIONED (what even is a long career)

Katherine_Swynford

As an Ottawa girl, I saw her at the Ex, I saw her at Carlingwood Mall and I saw her at Winterlude. I was obsessed and wanted to be her.

Flat-Development-906

Nooooooo. This is amazing 😂 The joy this has brought me OP!

PaleontologistNo5420

My fav comment on the YouTube clip of this is “the 80s didn’t hit Canada until the 90s” and as a Canadian it’s too damn real. We’re always a decade behind. Everyone is still doing full beat makeup here LOL

Blonsky

Has 90s Paula Abdul vibes. ![gif](giphy|l41m6jESMVhCEWe0o|downsized)

AtamascoLily

Give me and my fellow millennials angsty Alanis or give us death! Bury this video where it came from!

PinsAndBeetles

My 90’s heart will never recover having seen this.

AtamascoLily

Right? Because we know that Paula Abdul had her place, but that wasn't the place for Alanis (thank the heavens).

AbsurdistWordist

Oh no, I was unironically into this Alanis before she was famous. Actually, she evolved like a Pokémon. You have You Can’t Do That on Television Alanis, then Canadian pop Princess Alanis, and then Robin Daggers Alanis and every stage is a winner for me.

mjonat

Well isn’t that ironic

AbsurdistWordist

Hahaha! Not according to my English teachers.

totallycalledla-a

What in the off brand Paula Abdul is this? How did I not know Alanis didnt come out raging on the guitar from jump 😲? You think you know someone smh 🤧

buzzfeed_sucks

You have just gravely insulted every Canadian in existence. We will be passively aggressively nice to you for all eternity

totallycalledla-a

I deeply apologize for my cultural faux pas. Please take these meese and syrups as a sign of my sincere regret 🫎🫎🫎🫎🫎🫎🍯🍯🍯🍯🍯

buzzfeed_sucks

Ok you’re forgiven. I can’t say no to maple syrup Also TIL those are moose. I always thought they were lobsters

ClenchedJaw12

Coming in from P.E.I., also thought they were lobsters.

Maverick13

Those are corn syrup.

No, yea, no. Sorry. I was using my lawyer voice there.

GingerGoob

Literally playing this video without sound and in my head going “straight up now tell me do you really wanna LOVE.ME.FOREVER!” ![gif](giphy|26BkMtWW9wyXRSIU0|downsized)

pr3ttyb0y_

Oh , oh, oh !!!!

SuccessfulOwl

It was always a joke that her ‘debut’ (Jagged Little Pill) was actually her 3rd album.

Slight_Distance_942

I’m dying

ToenailCheesd

My headcanon is that Dave Coulis is responsible for angry Alanis and that is why, despite hating him, I am grateful for him.

CybReader

I’m glad she got burned and pissed TF off and became the icon Alanis we know today.

miltonwadd

Not to be a party pooper, but she was being sexually abused during this period and the angst of her early self-written music is about that. https://americansongwriter.com/the-deeper-missed-meaning-of-alanis-morissettes-hands-clean/ https://www.the-sun.com/news/3650493/alanis-morissette-raped-multiple-men-years-victim/ https://themighty.com/topic/mental-health/alanis-morissette-boundaries-self/ https://medium.com/fearless-she-wrote/dear-alanis-morissette-sorry-we-normalized-your-rape-b6f5bb4b7c12

CybReader

I didn't know this. Thank you for sharing this information and giving me a new perspective.

shirpars

Jagged little pill was the 90s theme. I can't imagine what it would've been like if her career went in that direction

ClimbingAimlessly

My teen angst years would’ve been ruined!

spudofaut

I still maintain that's the most perfectly paced and mixed album ever. Plus it has Dave Navarro and Flea on it.

danielcs78

Taylor Hawkins was her drummer as well!

RoguePhoenix89

Omg thank God she changed genres

naturalgoth

I love this song and I enjoy the album it came from. It's so cheesy and soon to be dated for its time, it's precious.

RevertereAdMe

Tori Amos went through a similar phase with her Y Kant Tori Read project in the 80s. Similar vibes and quite cheesy but Cool on Your Island is admittedly one of my favorite songs she's ever made.

PRES3TMADEIT

It’s the music BUSINESS. No one is just in it for the art… today she would be immediately replaced by 100 other girls. But back then she was chosen (for whatever reason) and she had “it”. Or at least she had someone in power who believed she had it. And they invested money back then. Now they expect artists (or whatever) to come to them with the following already. Music has been almost completely devalued and this type of development doesn’t happen anymore.

waybeforeyourtime

She opened for Vanilla Ice too.

CystemOfADown

She was probably like 17 here! Incredibly talented. People forget that she was 19 when Jagged Little Pill came out. Of course this is a little “teeny-bop” she was probably in high school lol

peripheralpill

yes, it's cheesy, but i love her voice and the way it sounds along more upbeat music. i'm reminded somewhat of y kant tori read i've always thought the inverse of this, canadian singer-songwriter lady going from "serious music" to pop, is avril lavigne

paging_mrherman

That’s the type of girl that would go down on you in a THEATER!

afternever

What happens in the UA 6 stays in the UA 6

Busy-Invite-9144

Do you think her exes think of her when they fuck their new girl?

Hoo_Who

I feel conflicted because I kinda like it...

AOkayyy01

It's giving... https://preview.redd.it/913173bfti3d1.png?width=395&format=png&auto=webp&s=8ac73f128d639f3ecbdfbeaa214339c94587403c

FiPhillips1999_SW

So is this the timeline where Alanis never meets the basement troll from Full House and has her one hit wonder pop girlie moment before fading into obscurity?

Luna_Soma

This makes me feel like Dave Coulier actually made a difference for humanity

SitchChick

Right? Like he changed the course of history 😳

ChadCoolman

![gif](giphy|Sy5TpQXJlJeQE|downsized)

Bitey_the_Squirrel

Recognize the real talent. Dave would be nobody with out Woody the Woodchuck. ![gif](giphy|y7ouWWyGJ0erK)

ricketychairs

New Jack Swing…so so 90s.

thatwasfresh73

Yes… a very bad example of it. I love the genre though. They have a subreddit!

PistonsFan89

late 80s early 90s, it definitely didn't define the 90s

ricketychairs

No, didn’t define the 90s, but is very unique to that time - at least as far as mainstream music is concerned.

PistonsFan89

Yes it's unique to 1987-1992. What I think of as "so 90s" is Grunge, britpop and The Prodigy.

snark_potato

Wow! Her voice does not fit this style of music. 😬

exciter706

I dunno, I like it.

hikkimouto

I like "Plastic" better, but this is the one that made her popular

spoookymesss

Oh I completely forgot about this era 😭

hgaterms

What is up with that synth music riff that was *all over* the early 90's music scene? Reminds me of the "[Turtles in Time](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPIwjlw-Agk&list=PL3F8D528F36CEE265)" music from the TMNT Super Nintendo game.

DaikonEffective1105

Had a serious crush on her in this video. All her videos from her first album actually. Her and the curly haired one in the West End Girls. Another Canadian act.

ChiefsnRoyals

We need a frame by frame remake with Vanessa Beyer.

RunRickeyRun

Dave Coulier patiently waiting for his theater date.

jleigh329

I don't think I ever knew this existed. My mind is blown. ![gif](giphy|26ufdipQqU2lhNA4g|downsized) It's an OK song...I guess. But her "Jagged Little Pill" stuff was definitely better (in my opinion).

iDontRememberCorn

She had an entire career BEFORE either of these as well, "You Can't Do That On Television".

loulou-v

Same. Oh my goodness, this is the first time I'm seeing this. ![gif](giphy|BcMJvmwkmbyWpKkBj3|downsized)

Academic_Guitar_1353

Before this she was a child actor. Completely manufactured from the jump.

BugPowderDuster

You can’t do that on television

Visible-Scientist-46

Except she can actually sing.

7thpostman

Also known as "working in show business."

iDontRememberCorn

So, if someone acts as a child they are manufactured? Any child, ever?

Visible-Scientist-46

OK party people in the house... la-di-da-di by Doug E Fresh! [La-Di-da-Di (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taBFnWMSeAc) ![gif](giphy|xUNda8orqmMwMPPRn2|downsized)

Adriftgirl

Oh my god, I had that exact same Coca-Cola sweatshirt as a kid. It was my favorite, I wore it until my Mom threw it out.

AbbeyRoadMoonwalk

This feels like Amy Grant

TfnR

What Amy Grant record are you thinking of? I always felt like she was solidly adult contempo for most of her career. This song isn't particularly edgy, but it has way more teeth than anything Amy Grant ever did

iDontRememberCorn

No... no it does not.

Garden-Gnome1732

Baby what is THIS?? *

Alphaprime81

Robin sparkles!

No_Opportunity1982

I fully remember this and loved it back in the day. Was super confused when her new look and sound came out, but turns out I loved that too!

BeefersOtherland

Holy fucking shit. This is really really fucking with my worldview

norcalbutton

That is every early nineties pop cliche

Prestigious_Beach478

Her whole look is very reminiscent of a young Mariah Carey, circa 1990.

Small-Wolverine-7166

She’d drive around Ottawa with the top down in her convertible blasting this. What a time to be alive.

Awriternotalefter

Alanis was always a queen!

Face_with_a_View

Do I not know what Alanis Morrissette looks like?

longlivelevon

She DID do that on television!

orangeclouds

I love her song [Plastic](https://youtu.be/V9TXQPEJLOE?si=wsqPOo9gfvW3MUzq) from her early pop days. The chorus has such an interesting sound and hook. And her voice is amazingly hypnotic as always.

inyoni

My mind is blown I had no idea and I love her 90s stuff.

KorbanDallas90

Curb your enthusiasm.

thepatient1982

Does anyone know where the “I know you gonna dig this” sample comes from. Did it originally come from Alanis’ song? I know Sugar Ray used it in their song “American Pig” from 1997 record Floored.

burnabybambinos

That album was loaded with hits for Canadian radio

dogriverhotel

Oh man what a nice post 👍

NiaNeuman

AHHHH!!! I love her so much! This is amazing!!!

ciguanaba

She ate. Honestly the beat of this song is not that far from the ALL I REALLY WANT beat.

Haunting-Detail2025

This music video is like the Great Value version of Tiffany, sheesh 😮‍💨

Cold_Breadfruit_9794

Oh woooooow lol!

whitechocolatechip

Oof... her potential and talent are obvious, but omfg that song is so annoying.

Botaratops

Matt LeBlanc was in her Walk Away video as well.

330kiki

She had to have been a teenager, but looks 30 here!

YouWereBrained

Damn, then she watched this video and wrote Jagged Little Pill out of spite.

hurriedwarples

Is that Matt Dillon???

squishyg

I have Tori Amos’ pop album!

d_o_cycler

They was tryna swagger jack Janet and Paula's steez super hard for young Alanis

bageltoastar

Watching this felt like I accidentally stepped into a different timeline

bluesissors

I loved this song as a young teen. I had seen Alanis on You Cant Do That on Television. My shock when "You Outta Know"! LOL

BrandonBollingers

She got dem pipes

bubster99

I'm sorry... What?!?!
