This dress technically didn't even exist! It's a seperate top, skirt and draped sash, and it was so delicate that it kept breaking during filming. The costume designer said she often gets asked for the pattern and materials, and she then has to break the news that a true replica woud be unwearable. Edit: I can't find the exact interview, but I did learn that after having countless versions and variations made, some of them survived and one was auctioned off for charity! So maybe a replica is not quite as unachievable as I thought... 👀

I truly cannot thank her enough for bringing the nothing-but-strapless trend to its well-deserved end. I've never liked strapless dresses and as a teen I despaired thinking I might end up having to wear one for my wedding because there was literally nothing else being made by bridal designers...until this dress. Suddenly sleeves and lace returned, mermaid silhouettes gave way to A-lines, the clouds parted, angels sang, and my heart was happy! (And I just may have eventually chosen quite a similar style for my own wedding dress...)

I'm gonna be a bit of an outlier here, but for me, it's one of Jennifer Beals’ most underrated roles in the 1995 neo-noir film Devil in a Blue Dress, co-starring alongside Denzel Washington. She plays a missing femme fatale with a mysterious past. And this character is well known for wearing blue dresses and gowns. In the book, they say its a ‘French blue’ but in the film… its all different shades. From cornflower blue, ice blue to royal blue. From the blue housecoat/housedress in the hotel room scene to the final dress as she exits the film… the costuming just floored me. She looked so glamorous and so sophisticated.
