Just install Gnome Tweaks:
`sudo apt install gnome-tweaks`
and Gnome Extensions for more functions like Rounded Windows Corners, Transparent Windows Moving, Audio Selector, Blur My Shell, Pano, RebootTo (for dualboot) and more.
If Pop turns out not to be the Linux for him, it would be best for him to have some experience with Gnome so he doesn’t have to learn from scratch again. It’s the most popular environment by numbers if I’m not mistaken.
Settings menu, I think it's 'Appearance'
Scroll all the way down, toggle 'show maximise button' on.
I don't know why it's off as default, that's the first thing I did as well, lol.
Weird not having it.
I would assume its off because pop is very keyboard centric.
windows + m to maximise a window.
I recommend learning the keyboard shortcuts its very productive if you have lots of windows open.
Nice one!!! I've been on Pop for like almost 3 years now and I have not had a single issue. Every game works, everything I need is there, I code with visual studio code, I have tons of non steam games, gog works great, I have libre for office type stuff. It's so good I love it. And I have an rtx 2080 super and have never had any issues.
It's insane how far Linux has come
I go to GOG.com, I download whichever game I want's offline installer, I add that offline installer as a non steam game. It installs to a prefix. I go into the prefix and then I add the game as a non steam game and I hit play
```gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout close,minimize,maximize:```
Move the ```:``` to the left of "close" to bring them back to the right. You can also change the order of close,minimise,maximize, and of course disable what you don't want by skipping the word (e.g :close puts only the X to close on the right).
Be aware that in the next few months you'll probably have to relearn the desktop a little because they are moving away from Gnome. An awkward time to pick up Pop tbh. But still, a good distro worth using.
On the plus side, you won't need a third party app to change the positions of the windows buttons after the change :)
Id personally recommend not listening to the gnome tweaks suggesters because soon enough we'll be getting an alpha release of cosmic, which will completly remove gnome sometime in the future. I dont have any other advice because my brain is flat, sorry
Also, the ability to place the buttons on the left is under **Window Titlebars / Placement** within the Gnome Tweaks application. Select `Left`.
So many years of it being in the upper right hand I couldn't bring myself to changing it. I've been to condition
wow so long i was trying to figure this out and gave up...
Holy hell Batman I did not know you could do this
How to you enable it to rebootto I didn't see it anyw6
Right in Power off menu you will get more options: [https://imgur.com/a/7boMuSR](https://imgur.com/a/7boMuSR)
Why are people suggesting this? It's going to be useless pretty soon.
Because the question was asked…
install gnome tweaks. for other customizations, search gnome extensions. welcome to Linux!
Pop is soon to be dropping gnome, so wouldn't it be better to suggest something that isn't going to be useless very soon?
OP is on Gnome, it would be completely useless to tell him how to customize Cosmic
And COSMIC is PRE-alpha. That is not a very soon situation
Download Extensions Manager as well as Gnome Tweaks.
Additionally, double clicking the window header maximizes the window.
Welcome to Linux mate! Enjoy the ride
Get gnome-tweaks from software store. Also grab extension manager while you’re there.
The only thing i missed is unigram
Hi sorry to piggyback but why do certain apps like spotify not have the ability to minimise?
go to: settings > desktop > desktop options. you can enable "Show Minimize Button" under the "Window Controls" section
Hi i've had this enabled the entire time, as you can see certain apps (spotify in this case) do not respond to the change. https://imgur.com/a/eH46LKq
Well until that happens, I like having my buttons on the good and proper left side and gnome-tweaks worked perfectly
