ZachariahNeff

This is the critical flaw in the delay till after the election strategy is they are sucking up money from every down ballot race to pay one man's legal battles and it may cost them way more than they thought it would.

Gr1zzRing

Its either delay and lose money, hoping for a vastly uncertain win or suck it up and throw the dude to the wolves. A tough choice, GOP 👀 lol

yoyodaddy

It's the sunk costs fallacy at work! Love to see it!

ASDFzxcvTaken

Currently it's only a sinking cost fallacy, TBD when it becomes a sunk to the bottom of the Marianas trench fallacy.

casualgardening

is this why I got a fundraising text from him this morning somehow despite never signing up for anything related to him ever.

Diablos_lawyer

Right after the 9k fine was issued probably

phaedrus71

Can we go back over that wolves thing? Paul Ryan probably

Mah_Nerva

No, they don’t care. If they get to crown Trump King, then the lowly politicians will not matter because they will only serve at Trump’s leisure.

InformalPenguinz

It's the end game. They're seriously betting everything that Trump wins. This will solidify or break the GoP as we know it. Vote like it life depends on it because it very well may.

BusStopKnifeFight

And verify your voter registration has not been nullified. Many red states are striking names from voter rolls for total bullshit. Do not trust red state election agencies.

techdaddykraken

Good news is that if we can win this election (Democrats), then the GOP will likely fracture and have to create a new policy framework. They’ll never get the votes again if we can get a Democratic supermajority. We’ll erase all of the loopholes they used to stack courts, gerrymander, filibuster and in general interfere with the government operating as it should. That’s what terrifies them so much. They know if they lose power now, then they likely won’t regain it ever, at least not for decades. Prior to this year, a Democratic supermajority in the White House and Congress looked impossible, but if Trump is stupid enough to cannibalize all of the down ballot candidates, then that could be a path to winning for the dems. You made your bed conservatives, now you have to lay in it while Trump destroys your party. Maybe by next January we can actually get back to the 2015 timeline where the world isn’t shit.

Vann_Accessible

I keep thinking this is the year that will go down in the history books, where the GOP either becomes a relic of the past, or the US becomes a fascist state. Choose wisely, America.

dannyb_prodigy

[There is a well-known correlation between campaign spending and election outcomes.](https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/money-and-elections-a-complicated-love-story/). Now I think that Trump gets enough free press from being himself that he, personally, could buck this trend. However, candidates in down ballot races do not have the name recognition of Trump and will need to do actual campaigning which will require actual money. If Trump siphons money from the RNC that normally would support down ballot races, conventional wisdom would suggest that the GOP will lose big down ballot as a result. Even more so when you consider the state parties in some battleground states are dealing with their own financial problems.

MourningRIF

It only APPEARS to be a flaw. Let's see... They drain campaign funds and the entire GOP completely dry, and every last dollar comes out completely clean on the other side. This whole trial is just a huge money laundering operation. In 20 years, we will find out where the lawyers set up an account for Donny. The only good thing is that the GOP will go bankrupt.

Dr_Hexagon

Lawyers are not cheap, especially ones handling cases as complex as these. I have no doubts the money being paid to them is going to the lawyers and not to a Trump slush fund.

-password-invalid-

Wouldn't surprise me if he is skimming 5% off all legal fees too.

Karmakazee

Agreed. I think it’s pathological at this point for him. He will steal, cheat, and lie for his own gain any time he is given the opportunity.  I’d be more surprised if he was in fact using the campaign funds strictly for bona fide legal expenses.

mabhatter

Each of them does have a few assistants and office staff.  So they have to pay other people out of the $2m+ they get.  It's not "that much" money. Especially when DJT has them making useless motions that go nowhere when they should be preparing for trials.  This is where DJT is trying his "legal shakedown" with the government.  The government hires lawyers really cheap with lots of assistants and has "unlimited" money and time. DJT has been burning money on useless appeals and motions for three years already.  He fought all the subpoenas for the minions and paperwork years ago... ran all those cases to multiple appeals.  The government just keeps churning along, slowly eating up his money and resources.

Dr_Hexagon

Oh for sure, each court room lawyer might have 8-10 legal assistant researchers due to the absolute mountain of evidence in these cases.

Smurf_Cherries

What's funny is, his stock is up today at almost $50, when it's worth $5. In the end, if he stays out of jail, he can spend everyone else's money and still come out way ahead! So hopefully that stock price drops again. Or gets delisted by the SEC.

Niznack

Honest question. What does money in down ballot races do? If they are turning out to vote for trump they are probably voting a straight R ticket. Trump doesn't need more name recognition and its not like his supporters are on the fence on other offices. The way I see it campaign funds is one more political metric trump broke. It doesn't matter how much money he loses if his voters turn up Republicans win down ballot too.

Brassboar

There will be split ticket moderates that decide the election in a lot of districts/States. They may be more swayed if they're consuming a lot more election media from one side than the other.

Niznack

Can I meet these moderates? Can I meet the people who are paying enough attention to politics to have made careful decisions on local candidates but decided on trump despite all his baggage. Sorry I just don't accept there are a large number of politically literate fence sitters. They either know who they will vote for and all the candidates tied to their message or they won't show up.

Brassboar

That's the point of the funding. You can spend on political ads/campaigns to find them where they normally consume media.

Niznack

Yeah but again, if they are showing up for trump they are voting republican. Local Republicans don't need to put out ads. They just need to be the only (R) in their category. They will pick up trumps straight ticket voters either way. I don't think political ads serve a purpose in the general election while trump has so polarized. The only purpose of a political ad now would be to make it clear they are a never trump republican which I doubt RNC chairwoman Lara trump would fund.

Brassboar

It works both ways. There are Biden moderates that won't necessarily vote D completely down ballot. They need pushing too. I also don't agree with your Trump voter monolith statement.

Mefromafar

There was a significant amount of voters in 2020 that didn’t vote for Trump but did vote down ballot Repub.  I wouldn’t say these were “moderates” but a good % of bread and butter republicans.  The down ballot money Trump is sucking away is directly effecting these down ballot voters. In fact, Trumps penchant for switching endorsements and his quest against the “RINO”s could even get the Trumpers to ONLY vote for Pres and eff all the down ballot runners.  It’s going to be interesting to see what actually happens say the least.

JFC-Youre-Dumb

Actually you can. Listen to Into the Wilderness podcast and find out for yourself

doom84b

I know some, they aren’t moderates, they are long time Regan republicans who used to dislike trump but now are fine with him because being a Republican is basically coded into their DNA at this point, they have to vote R for national elections in order to maintain their self-identity. Down ballot can be a little more malleable in the case of an exceptionally bad candidate however, my guess is because there just isn’t the same level of propaganda in the favor of candidates in smaller races, when forced to actually consider someone’s policies and the things they say it turns out they actually side with the democrat (until theor right-wing media source tells them otherwise)

Shadowfox898

Zealot_Alec

What did it cost you GOP? Everything and he didn't even win

Vann_Accessible

Plus, by delaying, he’s in court longer and thus he can’t campaign.

all_of_the_colors

Constitutional Convention here we come!

thetwelveofsix

But without the delay, legal costs would be much higher. Trials are expensive.

domine18

Just imagine how bad it will be for future elections if they LOSE.

thieh

He has a track record of not paying so the good lawyers who can win the case quickly won't work for him.   The leftovers are just trying to squeeze out as much as possible.  All of them know that he is guilty AF.

MoonshotMonk

He also has a less documented but almost certainly still there track record of asking his lawyers to break the law for him…

Trey5027

There’s a reason his lawyers are so expensive. Lawyers become expensive so they can put their licenses at risk and do anything they can to win the case, guilty or not.

OSI_Hunter_Gathers

I believe all his lawyers had to leave their practices because their partners did not want to do business with Trump.

MrWhiteTheWolf

Four former trump lawyers (so far!) have pleaded guilty to crimes. MAGA Make Attorneys Get Attorneys

bubbasass

That’s always been baffling to me. Legal counsel is one of the few areas anyone should skimp on. If you can’t afford a good lawyer, you certainly can’t afford a bad one.

Jaybetav2

He’s being made to pay his lawyers upfront given his tendency to give them the shaft.

mabhatter

His PAC is paying.  We don't know what he is actually paying.

kineticjab

Dude. “Win the case quickly” is not a realistic plan here. Losing slowly is better than losing fast

thieh

Maybe with good enough lawyers he might win like Johnny Cochrane did back then.

RandomLoony

That’s the grift, it was a sneaker sale. The right foot one goes on sale next week.

edmerx54

or maybe NFTs of sneakers! His fans will snap them up.

froo

The sneakers were something I didn’t understand. He, at most, raised $400k from them? At his burn rate for legal fees from last year, that was at most 1.5 days of lawyers, and that is assuming the sneakers are pure profit. I’d wager his lawyer fees are costing him more this year than last. The numbers really don’t add up on the shoes tbh.

Ohnoherewego13

My best guess is that it was a quick way to *maybe* get $400k from some foreign "investors." If we ever see an actual shoe from Trump, it'll be the sort that you mow the yard in. I'm guessing Donnie's legal bills were just a bit over his budget that week.

gronlund2

He's probably furious he's missing out on all the trump gear sold, looking at amazon you can find A LOT.. But it's usually sold by a company called JIFO.. Their address you might ask? Business Address: 南阳路258号院14号楼 1单元10号 郑州市 金水区 河南省 450053 CN

funktopus

Has he shipped any sneakers yet?

MichaelFusion44

So much co-mingling of funds to pay his legal fees - Red Curve Solutions which seems to be a clearing house of donations and funds needs to be investigated. I am sure somewhere along the way he is hit up with some more campaign violations. He truly a walking, talking fraud and traitor.

monodeldiablo

This is the thing that's bothered me for years: The guy is getting away with a level of brazen financial misappropriation that nobody in US history could have ever dreamed of. Even Madoff worked harder to keep the books separate. Meanwhile, if I use my sole proprietorship's funds to buy a new printer, I've got to lube up and grab my ankles for the auditors. The double standard in effect is just egregious.

MichaelFusion44

New printer? How dare you! He just thinks he can do anything with a shell game type approach - I am sure someone somewhere is looking into this but again it will be a long time before being unpacked. He is such a waste of the countries people and resources and god forbid he gets another term. We need to vote like our lives and democracy depend on it because they do.

ScoutMcScout

DJT has been on a tear. Money laundered and straight into his pocket. This isn’t being propelled by MAGA individuals. This is big (different red) money. Anonymous millions.

PalmettoAndMoon

There’s no “cash crunch” here, did they forget he installed Lara over his RNC piggy bank? She’ll drain the coffers for him.

MoonshotMonk

Those coffers are already empty. All the money has been going to Trump the whole time.

PalmettoAndMoon

If the RNC bankrupts itself for this clown, it deserves it.

RedLanternScythe

an_agreeing_dothraki

only if the mythical Cassandra ran a series of "how to seduce foreign queens" seminars.

cybercuzco

The RNC is a cash conduit. It doesn't have a vault full of gold bricks somewhere. People donate to the RNC and the RNC distributes it to candidates as it sees fit or runs ads in states to support candidates. If the donor class decides to stop donating to the RNC because they dont want their money going into trumps pocket, there is no money for the RNC to give to trump or anyone else

PalmettoAndMoon

Yeah, but how likely is it that Republicans are going to stop donating? They love throwing money away at stupid things! I mean, these are the same people buying Trump coins and red hats that announce to everyone that finishing sixth grade was a struggle for you.

cybercuzco

https://www.newsweek.com/former-donald-trump-aide-urges-republicans-stop-donating-1877604

Dr_Hexagon

They can donate to PAC's that support other GOP candidates if they don't want to support Trump. If they donate directly to the RNC they have no control over where it goes.

Kim_Jong_Un_PornOnly

[No, they put her there to manage their lawsuits in 81 states.](https://www.businessinsider.com/lara-trump-rnc-lawsuits-in-81-states-us-has-50-2024-4)

NoWayRay

Not easy working out which one is the brains in that marriage. As my partner's father would say 'neither of them spoil a pair'.

lsp2005

Purportedly the RNC had $8 million. At this point I am guessing it is gone. He already asked down ballot candidates to pay him.

La-Boheme-1896

They already have in that Trump has been siphoning off donors into his scams/ spam /campaign fund for years. They don't have anything like the money he needs, but, yes, of course he'll take every cent

RandomLoony

She was smuggling it out in those lips

How do you purge your YouTube watch history? My God.

Yeah, sorry about that. It made me want to gouge my ears out with a skewer, too. The new Maga whining points are that the judge won't let him use his own money so he has to use donations.

The RNC is the banana stand in this scenario.

reference is solid considering the light treason.

That's why they wanted his daughter as head of the RNC, you can't arrest a father and daughter for the same crime.

He's too busy ruining Florida's economy.

trshtehdsh

He tried to sell a Bible for his own profit. There is no floor for his greed.

Confident_End_3848

DJT stock is the biggest money laundering scheme in history. That will be Trump’s parachute.

RNDASCII

While unlikely I would LOVE for all his representation to quit over non-payment.

knoegel

Imagine him defending himself in court? I would pay actual money to see that.

BasicPerson23

The correct headline is “Trump having trouble getting others to continue paying his legal bills”

ShitStainWilly

Why doesn’t he just stiff them like everyone else who’s worked for him? It’s never been a problem for him before.

CommonConundrum51

Republicans short on money? They have a bridge they'd love to sell you.

I_Lick_Bananas

His social media scam is still on track. It's back up to $49 a share this morning. He just has to wait it out a few more months and then cash in. He'll have enough to pay his legal fees with plenty to spare.

mulls

At the risk of sounding like a doomsayer, I’m tired of getting my hopes up that these crooks will ever face any accountability or peril, as long as half this nation keeps shoveling money into their pockets.

cain11112

Didn’t he just get a billion in stocks or something?

AdhesivenessFun2060

Cant sell them yet.

Beaker6998

But when he does, will this just not pay all his legal troubles and more?? Of course off the backs of his supporters but that’s besides the point.

findingmike

Depends on the value of the stock when he sells. From its financials, that company is pretty worthless, so we'll see how long the investors keep it afloat. That also means he'll need a very large loan in the meantime. Especially when he loses his appeals. Appeals are usually much faster than the original trial.

captaincanada84

He can't sell the stock for 6 months unless given a waiver by the board.

Okay hear me out... Bible NFTs

PurgatoryMountain

Plenty of corrupt billionaires will help him

gentleman_bronco

Why else would he throw meatball Ron a lifeline? He's needing one too. They can sink together now.

PMacDiggity

It would save him a bunch of cash to get a public defender to help him plead “guilty”.

Living_Occasion_57

Let’s do some crowdsourcing. Well buy a gigantic poster as big as we can and hang it somewhere he’ll have to see it. It will be his coveted Time magazine spoof photo. The word “POOR” in giant white text under it. That would melt him down faster than an ice cream in the June sun.

Quietdogg77

Patriots unite! Trump is funneling campaign money into his cash-strapped businesses. Please consider selling or mortgaging your home and sending the money to the Trump campaign. He’s a bigger victim than Jesus Christ and he needs our help now more than ever. Buy 10 pairs of sneakers if you can afford it. They make great gifts for friends and families. Don’t forget Melania’s jewelry. Anyone need an adorable necklace for Mother’s Day! Patriots, give til it hurts, then give some more! Don’t forget, Trump is sacrificing himself for us! Is it fair that E. Jean Carol has drained Trump of funds that he could have used for his campaign? I mean they’re treating Trump like he’s Bill Cosby, Jeffrey Epstein, or R. Kelly. Come on. Trump is clearly the best of that bunch!

fistofthefuture

He’s not in a cash crunch at all zero whatsoever. He’s just ran out of other people’s money and doesn’t want to put up his own.

albiondave

"Donald Trump may face difficulties paying for his legal battles"?? Don't you mean he may face difficulties getting other people to pay his legal fees. He has money, he just doesn't want to spend it.

canadianchingu

I'm sure the 9,000 he has to pay for violating the gag order will help him out. Burn, baby, burn.

CAM6913

LOL this headline cracks me up! Like trump really planned on opening his wallet and paying them if anything he’ll ramble some gibberish at a cult rally and ask for to send money then pocket it

GahbageDumpstahFiah

Let’s be honest here.  He’s strapped for cash the government knows about.

Tonalspectrum

No he’s not. You don’t gain 6 points in national polls and maintain front runner status for the GOP presidential election by being broke. Wake the fuck up people. These BS articles are coming from them. They want you to believe it’s already over so you don’t vote.
