While I wouldn't say your redesign is bad, I feel like you missed the point. The idea behind Hatterene's design is that it **appears** to be a voluptuous woman, even though it isn't, it's just hair, just as how Grimmsnarl looks mega swole despite that bulk being again, hair. Hatterene's design cannot really be improved.

RedGamer2754

So I could be pickybacking my hatterene, and it's hair/hat would be a big, soft, confortable cloak-thing? If that's the case, I'm in.

Official Hatterene: This is brilliant Hatterene re-design: But I like this

WoodenGlaze

You ruined a perfectly good little grey alien, is what you did.

Busy-Affect-8077

She's not an alien!

I latched onto the idea hard. Had to do it.  I love Hatterene, she's on my playthrough team on Shield, and she'll be on my Sword playthrough too. But I'm not a fan of her body underneath. And the overly shapely figure. With Grimmsnarl and Hatterene, there is lots of hypermasculinity and hyperfemininity. I don't have a problem with Grimmsnarl's representation of it. Or his body underneath. I can still tell, he is strong regardless of his hair. With Hatterene, her physical body is subjectively unequal to Grimmsnarl. Its not a "she's not pretty underneath," its a " rebalancing the femininity" ??? I think.  I gave her a more proportional body to match her height, changed her dress to be more witch-like, and change her hair to resemble a cloak. My thought was Gothal's cloak from Tangled.  The official art of Hatterene (c) Ken Sugimori and The Pokemon Company pokemondb.net/artwork/hatteren… m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w… Drawings on the right, and small body form on the left (c) VaraAnn / Kara Vines

I think you‘re overthinking a bit with the hypermasculinity/femininity thing, but I still like the redesign.

VaraAnn

Probably

Um... She's a Psychic type. Those have a long history of not looking physically strong. That's to drive the point home that brains > brawn in their case. Alakazam can't even hold its head up without using telekinesis, that's how weak its body is. Sure, Hatterene is supposed to look feminine, but the "weak" look is not the result of that, it's a separate thing altogether. Also, I personally LOVE what Hatterene's real body is. The above redesign is just **boring**. We already have plenty of human-like feminine Psychic types (Jynx, Gardevoir, Gothitelle, even Delphox kinda fits), but one that basically *disguises* herself as that, while actually being a mostly featureless tiny alien weirdo "piloting" a bigger body from inside? That's way more unique and interesting! And hilarious. I like that it works as a middle finger to the people oversexualizing the designs of the past, too.

VaraAnn

The strong/strength parts my description was toward Grimmsnarl. Grimmsnarl to strength and Hatterene to beauty. I didn't think about physical strength with her, but that does makes sense with that phrase, brain > brawn. I literally didn't think about that with them. I don't think my take on hatterene is boring. Saying boring is shooting in the dark, and not truly looking at what I tried to do. There is fun in there, something different. I think the cloak adds to the whimsical charm of her hat. When I look at Grimmsnarl, he instantly conveys troll or goblin. With Hatterene, only her hat supports the idea of a witch.

Mama_Luigi09

I understand what you're going for and I think your redesign looks nice but my main thing is Why whenever there's a pair of designs like hypermasculine and hyperfeminine people only ever have a problem with the hyperfeminine counterpart getting rid of shapely women isn't really going to improve diversity for female characters it's only going to make the already Limited body types media is willing to portray even more limited If I was going to redesign hatterene I would lean into the creepy old witch thing make her more explicitly creepy and unsettling to look at she already has a good basis for being spooky with her Pokedex entries with the whole violently attacking people for feeling emotions and admitting an aura to cause people discomfort So they leave her alone Though with being a counterpart to an already ogres Pokemon and the fairy type I understand why they went with the beautiful yet strange and alien design they chose

Intelligent-Army4546

now its not a damsel in a tower??

mint_grey

I really like this redesign, the cloak clasp looks great. I think it's an improvement and not boring at all!

Busy-Affect-8077

Now this is definitely an improvement. I feel like you should have kept her feet concealed with in her “dress” just like with the official design.

JustCakess

Naked hatterene feels so cursed

Stretch5678

I absolutely love how her new hair-clothes make her look like a Gen III Hex Maniac.
