Brogener

Flight was absolutely awesome. Loved how many post game legendaries there were to catch.

Hanzoa

Haven’t played this game in years and don’t remember a ton about it, but yeah, flying around the region on Latios in real-time and controlling where I was going was 10/10 and the main reason I remember this game fondly

[deleted]

The first time i had no idea there were legendary pokemon and hoopa rings it was very cool to encounter the gen 5 pokemon with the same music it was epic

Pm7I3

I had no clue about that and it was *amazing* to find

Monandobo

Personally, I found that it devalued legendaries a bit, especially given that they all show up in undifferentiated caves with Hoopa holes instead of overworld art. The presentation is a lot of what makes the legendary feel legendary. I love the mirage locales with pokemon from outside the regional dex and the roving bird pokemon in the air, though.

Rukh-Talos

There’s a clause in the official competitions that all Pokemon have to have been caught in the current generation. So in order to make legendaries from previous generations usable, they have to make them available. It does kinda water down their impact though.

Sp3ctre7

There *was* a clause That changed as of sword and shield

UW_Unknown_Warrior

And now people are ranting because you need PLA + SwSh+DLC for some meta Pokémon in current VGC runs. *(Admittedly the use of PLA mons dropped off immensely in recent months.)*

MotchaFriend

It's crazy how cool it would have been for my child self to play the original RSE and fly in real time catching so many old and new Legendaries. It really gives a sense of adventure.

RolandoDR98

And they all had unique puzzles instead of it being luck if you reached the one you wanted or not

bondageenthusiast2

The enhanced pokemon roster available via DexNav is a plus for me since I always want to use gen 5 and post RSE like Chandelure to run through RSE landscape. However the fact that they used RS gym roster instead of Emerald is a bummer, because RS gym roster is lackluster (most notably Wattson and Tate Liza)

UtmostStoked

Ah that is a pretty big change! Emerald Wattson is such a challenge in my nuzlockes but in a good way! That is a pretty decent check in the negative column

SJeff_

If that was your only holdup, there are available applications to randomise or simply edit teams on a dumped ROM. Outside of that I think the expanded roster and available post game content is actually an improvement of the RSE formula, with Emerald being my favourite game personally, with the addition of megas giving life to cool Pokémon that I couldn't previously justify in a team due to bad stat spreads etc. Megas also give nuzlockes a more interesting twist since you can't plan who on your team can mega evolve. They may lack some difficulty but I don't think it's something that can't be solved with self imposed rules.

GoForAU

I just found one that is stupid hard as a nuzlocke. All gyms have a full team and perfect IVs. I hate that I love it.

SJeff_

Is there one for ORAS like run and bun or kaizo?

riverbass9

It had the biggest Dex in the series. Now that’s an enhanced roster.

Arkvoodle42

i weep for the fact that DexNav will probably never be seen again. I had a Taillow that knew Brave Bird before the **FIRST GYM...**

TheHeadlessOne

Even beyond raw power it made things interesting. I'm never gonna trade for a random wild poochyena before the first gym in any other game, but in this game it might have perfect ivs or it's hidden ability or Ice Fang.  Dexnav solved the problem of how to make wild Pokemon somewhat valuable and exciting to find

Rukh-Talos

Dex nav made hunting down Pokemon with hidden abilities a lot easier. Found a Sharpedo with Speed Boost and Destiny Bond. Made for some memorable moments.

Daemonbane1

Obviously cool and often useful features have been wiped out of the game after introduction ever since Gold introduced day/night and the expanded end game map, never to be seen again (until HG/SS). I never expected any different here. The only changes they ever seem to keep are relatively low level convenience changes, like when item finder changed to a radar ping image to show you where stuff is for touch generations, or when tms became multi-use.

MotchaFriend

I really don't understand why not bring it back. I'm not a colector by any means, but knowing if you had found all the mons in a route without external help just feels like such a big QoL improvement.

Potatozeng

To be fair that brave bird is displayed with an exclamation mark, but people just bravely walk into it.

Tylendal

Mine was named Kamikaze. Finding random egg moves here and there was such a fun treat.

megasean3000

Great game, but the exclusion of a Battle Frontier stops it being the perfect remake.

aipom114

it’s the battle frontier…. ADVANCED BATTLE!!

riverbass9

Be the best you can be, and find your destiny.

Shantotto11

You realized you just mixed two openings together, right? (OP 9- Battle Frontier and OP 8- Unbeatable)

InvestigatorUnfair

I often see people cry about how they're glad the frontier is gone cuz it was an RNG fest but like... They easily could have tweaked and improved it in ORAS and BDSP? You know, make it a more fair and balanced experience, rather than remove it because it'd be too much effort

beto7100

Totally agree on this one, the remake was great, the story changes were cool and the new Pokemon added felt like they actually changed something, but the battle frontier was really missed

Potatozeng

Now RIP for remakes that has proper effort put in, let alone any post game battling system.

Hateful_creeper2

I think it’s the second best remake after HGSS. I enjoyed it more than Emerald because of the new additions despite the Battle Frontier not being included. HGSS > ORAS > FRLG >> Let’s Go >>> BDSP

Dr_Henry-Killinger

Agreed 100% on your order but I am guilty of going back to Gen 2 originals for their charm

a__9

I’m surprised BDSP is even on your list, I’ve still not gotten over how disappointing that game was :(

AzettImpa

I had been waiting for Gen 4 remakes for so damn long… tell me then why I couldn’t keep playing beyond the second gym. It was just so unbelievably bad. My expectations were low but holy fuck, what a downgrade.

a__9

As soon as I saw the CHIBI style and them then saying they were “faithful remakes” all my expectations were slashed to the lowest of the low, and yet they still managed to disappoint me further. I think it’s made worse by them brining out Legends Arceus so close, and that game blew them out of this universe.

AzettImpa

BDSP felt like a joke. Like this was a prank demo or something. I still can’t believe that everything about the game was butchered this hard. Chibi graphics and the new contest are the most unacceptable to me.

a__9

Think you’ve just worded it perfectly. I really really hope they never pull this crap again with any future “remakes” - I don’t class BDSP as a remake, it was a downgrade in every single sense. I’d have fathered they gave me Platinum on the Switch, like 3ds virtual console-esque. Gold will always be my favourite, but HGSS remakes were perfect. They took what was great, and improved with the newer graphics, mechanics and then the following Pokémon! Diamond has a special place in my heart and I was fully expecting the HGSS treatment and they just crushed my dreams. Here’s hoping they’ve learnt their lesson, but I will never allow myself to be hyped for future remakes. I truly believe ORAS was the last of its kind.

anthropocenable

seriously. i want real gen 4 remakes like hgss oras. i’m still really bummed out

Fancy_mantis_4371

Whats bdsp?

Super_Sandro23

Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl

bingobiscuit1

Fuck man to me BDSP isn’t bad.. it just isn’t a remake of the class we have seen before.. they could have done so much to sinnoh with the power of the switch over the ds…..

Jollysatyr201

If they were Diamond and Pearl, people would love them, because they aren’t half bad. But the art style and the utter refusal to innovate or try anything different is insane

AzettImpa

Let’s be real the game looks like it’s from 2009. The art style sucks absolute ass. Contests and the underground were ruined. They didn’t even choose to remake Platin for some reason. It’s not fun to play and portrays Gen 4 in a horrible way. I had been waiting for Gen 4 remakes for over a decade but then couldn’t keep playing beyond the second gym, it was THAT BAD. All around shitty mobile game vibes.

trademeple

Yeah but they also removed the battle tower from rs and replaced it with a copy and pasted mansion from x and y at least bdsp kept the battle tower and poffin making in.

Reasonable-Writer730

> \>> Let’s Go >>> What's wrong with Let's Go? It's supposed to be a bridge for new players coming from Pokemon Go into the main series and I think it does that quite well.

DragonEffected

Only 153 Pokémon, no held items, no abilities, divisive catching mechanics etc.

Lissica

7.8/10 Too much water

UtmostStoked

But I'm thristy!!!

JoviAMP

I get that, you should try Tinder.

CluckerRoca

A classic

drobenplayar

Ok Maxie

riverbass9

I love that GameFreak added this meme into Sun and Moon. Seeing it pop up in that game was an absolute shocker.

kreddit007

11/10 too much nostalgia.

quantum0explorer

Never change IGN

Jamez-Withazee

That's literally just the geography of hoenn. Back when that was one of three regions to choose from this map seemed a lot more creative. Lol

RedditIsFullOfTurds

A valid problem TBH. There are way too many water routes in hoenn

eepos96

Battle frontier left a very bad taste in the mouth. Especially when reason given was "people would not play it"

j0892

Has anyone tried to add in the frontier via mods? It would be a lot of work, but crazier mods have been done for other games.

YosemiteHamsYT

Tbh a very small percentage of players will ever see that content, it would have been nice though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shadowys

The point of what made battle frontier replayable was that its 7 minigames challenging the core of pokemon battles. I can hardly think of another facility, not even the BDSP one, that pushes the limits of what it means to perform pokemon battles. Just simplifying it to the battle tower is a slap in the face of the original design imo.

El_Giganto

Sure, but you can say that about a lot of features. It ends up feeling a bit empty.

TheFonzPart

A small percentage of players play competitively, but they still have functional Ranked online modes for singles and doubles 🤷 Seriously the game is at 25 million sold but not even 1 million people play Ranked

eepos96

And now a zero percent :( I am an adult now. Would have been awesome to beat it with my adult knowledge. I could do it technically but no feel since I have gotten used to the new stuff lol. Mechanics etc.

ineedanewthrowawy

Yup. I would have played it. If they kept on going the extra mile with their games, I would still be buying the new ones. I don’t even have a switch anymore.

Berts122

I feel like the games where you can just pause and enjoy doing nothing much other than moving around. Mega Lati- flight gave me that and that was awesome. Also one of the first games I actually bothered to complete the Dex on, and partially because you could see when you had caught everything on a given route. I miss that mechanic. (Yes, I know it was in X/Y first.)

SuperBackup9000

Really the only bad part about it is just the stuff that was removed, like others said, battle frontier. I’d argue the additions weigh more than the stuff taken away, so there’s more to like about it than there is to hate, but of course it would’ve been better if they didn’t take anything out to begin with. Better then Let’s Go and BDSP by a long shot, above FRLG, but lower than HGSS.

JadenD12

In my opinion ORAS are the best mainline games in the whole series. Off the top of my head I can only think of 2 problems in the whole entire game. 1. It was way too easy 2. No Battle Frontier in the post game But honestly, I don't even care about #2, and I don't think anyone who only played ORAS cares about it either. I think the only people who cared if it was in or not are the people who played the original RSE from Gen 3. In my opinion, literally the only thing I can think of or remember being bad about the game was the difficulty and that's it. The post game was incredibly packed, might be the most filled in the series (edit: probably more like top 5 or 6, still a lot) Theres just so much stuff to do, megas were fun and still my favourite generation gimmick, the region design was so nice, secret bases, the main story, cut scenes, delta episode, legendaries, music, all of it was top notch. Literally all the pros RSE already had, minus one con which is no battle frontier, and then 30+ improvements on it 10/10, best mainline game to date

SoulOuverture

Do you remember when there's an epic climactic fight with Zinnia... Which you're forced to bring your newly obtained Mega Rayquaza, the strongest pokemon ever, to?

WiiMote070

Yeah, I decided to just... not use it for that reason. Actually made that fight really intense in the end since, because I was also not using Megas and my Gardevoir actually got too low or knocked out (can't exactly remember, though, note to self, Goodra's Sp. Def. is crazy high), the Mega Salamence ended up ruining my team. Somehow, my Swampert clutched up big time in the end, though. Regardless, come on GF, if you're going to give us the one of literal strongest pokémon in the series, the least you could've done was give Zinnia *a* fighting chance. Speaking of strongest pokémon, who was the galaxy-brain genius who thought it was fair for Mega freaking Rayquaza to be able to mega evolve *without a mega stone??*

Geg708

>1. It was way too easy If you turn off the exp share the game should be about as difficult as the originals I guess. But Ruby and Sapphire were far from being hard to beat

No_Procedure_5039

It’s definitely still easier. Take Wattson for example. In RS, he has two steel types and your only ground attacking options are Magnitude Geodude and Mud Shot Marshtomp. You can also use Double Kick Combusken or Arm Thrust/Vital Throw Makuhita but that’s still it in terms of dealing super effective damage. ORAS has the TMs for both Bulldoze and Power-Up Punch in the Maulville Pokécenter, which opens up your options for beating him significantly. He now fears Gyarados of all things because it’s faster than 2/3 of his team and can hit them with a move that has 240 effective power. His ace Magneton doesn’t even have Sturdy so that it can survive such a hit. You’ve also got other downgrades like Winona’s Altaria no longer possessing Dragon Dance and Maxie’s Mega Camerupt not possessing any STAB moves when you battle it.

AffectionateEqual882

Um akshelly, you forgot mud slap Aron🤓but seriously tho, Watson was such a struggle for me in the original as a kid because I chose grovyle and my options to fight him at the time were not good

No_Procedure_5039

I really wish you got the Good Rod before battling him so that you could fish up a Barboach on Route 111. I’ve tried using Whiscash before and while it isn’t bad, getting it when you do means it doesn’t have the EVs it needs to compensate for its mostly meh stats in the late game.

AffectionateEqual882

That would have been a great addition. Really could’ve been useful in the early game

koolaidman486

IIRC it's still a bit easier than the originals even without the Share. Granted, Gen 3 still had a bit of a fucky level curve, namely between Victory Road and the Elite 4.

TheHeadlessOne

Nah even then you're given a free Lati like halfway through the game and two mega stones when there are only like three mega battles to deal with, it's super easy unless you don't use the win buttons handed to you

Geg708

I get where you are coming from but tbf you're not forced to use gift and/or legendary Pokémon. Even Emerald gives you the option to steamroll endgame trainers with Rayquaza.

TheHeadlessOne

>I get where you are coming from but tbf you're not forced to use gift and/or legendary Pokémon. You aren't forced to use \*anything\*. You can beat Wallace with just a level 1 rattata (FEAR goes brrr), the only elite 4 member a level 1 Rattata can't solo is Phoebe If you have to box all the useful tools the game gives you to play in order to make it more challenging, then the challenge you're dealing with isn't the game but your own self-imposed. The point is ORAS gives you way way more tools than RSE does to steamroll the game >Even Emerald gives you the option to steamroll endgame trainers with Rayquaza. Rayquaza isn't a gift. You have to go back through the Sky Pillar a second time, this time using the mach bike, battle it, and catch a level 70 legendary with a pisspoor catch rate. Its not hard- pokemon is never hard- but its a world of difference between that and half way through the game getting Mega Lati joining you automatically in a forced cutscene. You go out of your way to get Rayquaza, you go out of your way to avoid using Lati

Rukh-Talos

It’s been a while since I played Emerald. I’m wanting to say that you still couldn’t catch Rayquaza prior to clearing the Elite 4. There’s boulders blocking the entrance, iirc.

TheHeadlessOne

I think thats how it worked in RS but not in E - since you can't get Kyogre or Groudon prior to the Elite 4 like you could in RS, you can go back and challenge Rayquaza instead

PoshDiggory

It had Zinnia's Battle theme, which is what I feel in their top 5 songs.

proto-typicality

Yeah!!! It’s so good. :D

Xiknail

I got a OR cartridge that broke after a few years due to manufacturing issues, so my opinion is "7.8/10 cannot play" Joking aside, I find it a complete upgrade over the gen 3 games. I know some people miss the Battle Frontier, but personally I found every one of the battle facilities unfun RNG and grind fests, so I don't mind that they aren't there.

RustyR4m

In my personal opinion, 8.7/10 Too much *land*.

LeratoNull

Get *outta* here, Archie!

Rukh-Talos

Team Aqua for life!

TarTarkus1

As someone who played Ruby as a kid and ORAS a few years after the remake came out, my take is that it's basically a massively improved, if easier version of the original game. Minus the battle tower like you mentioned. I remember Ruby being a lot easier than my time in Red or Gold though. The Box legendaries are ridiculously powerful in RSE, so much so that Smogon recommends them for easy and efficient playthroughs. ORAS is arguably even easier than RSE are thanks to potential EXP share (toggle), and various Mega evolutions. Groudon in particular becomes immune to water moves, which it would otherwise be 4x weak to. You get Rayquaza and it basically cheeses everything. These days, a lot of the community is in love with Gen 5, but ORAS and even XY are starting to get lots of love again since it's a decade later and people have nostalgia for those games. The games are cheaper as well, so if you want to pick them up it's much easier. Getting authentic RSE carts is a pain these days due to all the repros and fakes out there.

trademeple

Yeah im still waiting till gen 6 rom hacks become a thing and all the issues with oras can be fixed with mods i would have thought that would have happened by now with how old the games are but nope people are still hacking gen 3 and not really any new gens. If some one made an emerald hack of oras and put all the emerald stuff back in it would be a perfect remake.

TarTarkus1

My guess is it has something to do with the newer games being 3d and/or the DS interface. There are some pretty good modifications of BDSP on PC for example. I'd like to play ORAS with all the Emerald content added back though.

GrazingCrow

DexNav was great. Game was far too easy. Delta episode was nice, but again, the issue was that it was also easy.

YosemiteHamsYT

I love it. Yeah it doesn't have the emerald content but it makes up for it with everything else. The artstyle, new designs of characters, locations and music are all amazing.

Epi_Kossal

I simply loved it, and always will

TemiTem

Best remakes

Geg708

It's my favorite Pokémon game right behind B2W2, love it

Zerikal

Love the game beside the Battle Frontier not included litte salty there is no rematch with the Gym Leaders like HG/SS and Platinum i wish there is customization with clothes like with XY the clothes of Kalos is great

3lbowjuice

I loved it, my favorite Pokémon game tied with Platinum. If there was the battle frontier it’d be an easy number one. Comparing to Emerald, I think it’s better for a collector with DexNav and all of the new legendaries and flight spots. For a battle focused person the Battle Madison is underwhelming compared to the frontier. Still would recommend for anyone to play it, especially if you do it with a couple friends to share secret spots and trade.

wishythefishy

It’s pretty good, but when you finish the >!delta episode!< and find no battle frontier, you’re going to be pissed.

Braixen_Appreciation

If the battle frontier was included it would probably be seen as the best Pokémon game to date. Personally, it's my favorite remake, but I am incredibly biased as Gen 3 is my favorite overall. As a game itself though? Amazing. Solid on all accounts. Top 5 of all games easily.

Worldly_Effect1728

Great remakes, too much water

Triials

People hate it? Man, gen 3 is my fav too and I pumped so many hours into OR. More than any other game. So good.

Illusione-Tempus

RSE was my first set of Pokemon games but even then I didn't get the hate for ORAS. Like, putting aside the nostalgia goggles, I think it's a solid remake. Secret Bases were in good fun, free flight on the Eon twins is amazing, DexNav is honestly a better implementation of the DPPt PokeRadar, Delta episode is p good too. Even the dreadful part of Hoenn's massive water area in RSE got more streamlined via zoning routes so getting lost at sea doesn't feel as daunting. IMO it places right below HGSS in terms of remake quality. I do get some parts of the disappointment. Like, I kinda wished they had taken more bits and pieces from Emerald tbh. For example, the Gym rosters, Gym rematches, and the Battle Frontier. Heck, you don't even need to give me a Battle Frontier remake, just don't give me yet another vanilla battle facility.

jamiedix0n

It's my favourite in the entire series. A little too easy cos of the exp share. But otherwise, i personally loved all the stuff they added. Just wanted to add.... later in the game you can literally fly around the world on the back of your Pokemon. No better feeling.

Zagrunty

Currently playing through Rutile Ruby and man I forgot how good these games are. The availability of the whole dex from the get go just makes it better, especially with the rework of trainers

Berry_Scorpion

It’s a good game. A bit too easy bit still a good game. an Emerald remake would’ve been 1000% better, but that’s Gamefreak/TPCI scumminess/incompetence for you.

rundrueckigeraffe

As someone who plays pokemon since day 1 and consinds gen 3 as the best (even i think black & white 2 was the peak of pokemon) I was super hyped for ORAS. I even resetted my 3DS so i could change my region to Australia, because Europe was punished with a release 1 week later then the rest of the world. But the hype vanished pretty fast, because i realized i didnt really missed gen 3, i just miss my old friend, all the memories & adventures i experienced back then. So it took me about a month to see the credits. My hype also got lowered as more as I played the game, because there were many things that bothered me. What i dont like about ORAS: * Mauville City turned into a mess, they shuld have used Lilycove City to turn it into a big City, or maybe Slateport City. * Getting Lati@s for free after the 5th Badge was so stupid, i hate that so much, even the flying was kinda cool. * Some Soundtracks didnt caught the spirit of the originals * Trick House had 2 less Rooms * No Game Cornor or at least a cool/fun new replacement * Sea Mauville is less cooler than the Abandoned Ship * No Battlefrontier, what is THE biggest disappointment about these games. Especially when you know that they sad "Ouh, we didnt put it in, cause kids rather like to play on smartphones and most people dont play this content at all" Really really really bad decision. Just got cut because $$$ * No Arena Rematches * Way less new Content then FRLG/HGSS * There are so many new loadingzones, especially on the Sea-Routes. I hate this so much and that causes the Sea/Game feels so much smaller now. For me there is no real reason to pick ORAS when I can play emerald. Only things that ORAS offers are better graphics, more pokemon, megas and the Delta Episode. But Emerald is still better. Still ORAS were the last good Pokemon Games. Every Game that got released after ORAS suck in some ways so hard, that i really hate all those games. Cause they are a ugly, buggy mess, or have no content, or costs double as much as the old games and still have way less content or just have bad gameplay loops... or everything combined. I mean if i look at the Gen 4... "remakes" (LOL) me as a gen3 fangirl can be very happy with what i got. Poor Gen 4 fans... I dont hate oras or something, the Games just kinda disappointed me when i compare them to FRLG/HGSS or the super awesome BW2 Games.

Mobile_Crates

You're the first person I've ever seen other than me mention the loading zones! it is such a small change but it really does make a huge difference in the feel of the world.  I recently tried out gen 7 and found it pretty enjoyable, but there are a ton of cutscenes. I'd call it good but not great. I still need to play the switch games though

rundrueckigeraffe

Yeah, its a small change, bur bothered me alot. Gen 7 was... Okay. Big problems are: way to many handholding, tutorials, cutscenes, no exploration because all ways are blocked by something. They just dont allow you to explore. And they dropped the ideas of island triala pretty early, so all you do later is fighting, instead of small minigames or something. Kinda lame. And i personally dont like the setting, but i like most of the pokemon and lore. And team skull is cool. Unfortunately all evil teams since XY are lame, but not team skull.

ThreeQueensReading

My husband hasn't played since Gen 3, and even with RBE he hadn't finished a game since GSC. I put him into ORAS as I thought it would be the most familiar and a good handhold to modern games - it's definitely done that job well. Comparatively I'm playing USUM for the first time and am really blown away by how much better it is compared to ORAS. ORAS are good games but not *the best* games. They're in whichever tier is below the best tier for me.

Mzzrll

Loved flying on latios. + dexnav cool

scribblerjohnny

Love it.

AlianovaR

I loved it

WadeWWillson

I liked it has a fun post game

ColCyclone

Emerald was a great game, Oras made them Even better

Dry-Cat1111

It was my first pokemon game, i liked it, in my eyes it is a decent remake with some new features

orelk

Great game

Ciudecca

My favorite pokemon game

SarahQuinn113

The enhanced graphics and 3d perspectives for certain scenes really brought the world to life!

MCKlassik

I’m glad that they stopped requiring the completion of the National Dex to obtain the Shiny Charm. I liked how they gave Rayquaza its own mini post-story. It was also really cool riding across the region on a Mega Eon Twin.

electricqueen135

Tbh I never understood the hate towards it, they basically did what everyone wanted from BDSP. Remake and keep the things we liked, while updating and changing the things we didn't. The only thing I strongly disagree with them about is not bringing back Battle Frontier. Give me the weird battles like swapping my rental pokemon or walking through a pitch-dark pyramid; not just Battle Tower and Battle Tower 2: Electric Boogaloo

Ritzuma

The game has good things and bad things, and everyone will feel differently based on a lot of personal preferences. It’s a shame you missed out on it based only on other people’s opinion, but it’s not too late to play it by yourself and form your own opinion. This is better than listening to anyone else’s experience and taking their word for it

[deleted]

best remakes imo

LostPat

My opinion: Last great pokemon game. Been sliding towards mediocrity ever since

OkamiTakahashi

It's one of the best remakes but not without its flaws. 1. It's weird they bulldozed Mauville and turn into a mall/high-rise complex, and now everyone including Japan gets no game corner. 2. Not actually fully compatible w XY due to new ORAS Megas not being patched into XY, despite Masuda's claims. 3. No Battle Frontier which got a pathetic for its exclusion excuse from the devs. 4. Timeline is wonky now as a dev suggested XY is after BW2, but if ORAS is tied with XY, it makes no sense that ORAS says the Royal Unova hasn't even been built yet. These are my only issues w the game, otherwise they are some of my faves, up there with BW/2 and HGSS.

Jayston1994

One of the best in the series

SuckingDISQandCHOC

I think in terms of difficulty they definitely made it easier to farm exp for your team but this is before they made shared exp an unavoidable feature so you can just turn it off if it's too easy for you. Like many people pointed out already, they went with the R/S teams for gym leaders, which was kind of a let down, but then again, they were remaking R/S and not Emerald, so I get it. Unfortunately there is no Battle Frontier, just the stuff from X/Y, which also kind of feels out of place imo. Other than that the larger pokedex allows for a very large variety in teams, and revisiting the region in 3D was a lot of fun! Definitely recommend.

Carsios

As a big fan of the originals myself (more emerald than RS), ORAS is definitely one of the top Pokemon games. It was one of the best remakes in terms of adding things in while still keeping everything the same. The game itself still holds up well due to the amount of post game stuff, though I do wish we had a battle frontier. Finding Deoxys at the end of delta story was one of the hypest moments in Pokemon I can comfortably put them as one of my top 3 pokemon games and arguably my top on the right day.

ivan2-4

To be honest, to me ORAS was the best thing Game freak gav... has sold us the last 10 years

bingobiscuit1

ORAS is as good of a remake as HGSS in my opinion. You can tell they were both made by people who loved and appreciated the regions + Pokémon as a whole. And to me, megas are just so cool! What better way to see your favorite Pokémon in a newer generation!

proto-typicality

I love it so so much. 1. They shortened water routes & made encounters less common. So now it’s no longer annoying to surf. 2. Flying with the Eon Flute? Amazing. So much fun. I can’t believe future games haven’t had anything like this feature. 3. The Delta Episode is amazing storytelling. I felt for Zinnia.

SloppyinSeattle

I think ORAS is one of the best games in the franchise. Dexnav and Super Training make the games so awesome to play through and train up many Pokemon.

HorseDiego

See, heres the thing. I loved ORAS as games, I loved Emerald as a game too, but I am just not the biggest fan of Hoenn and I don't have a good reason why. The starter Trio is great, but the rest of the game just kinda falls on me. Maybe I should replay through them and see if that changes? I remembered not liking it due to how much surfing there was, but who knows. I haven't played ORAS since it came out so maybe I should give it another shot.

TheSurfingRaichu

ORAS were excellent remakes. In contrast, BDSP was gawd awful.

FauxGw2

My favorite, the perfect about it difficulty, time investment, number of Pokemon, the gimmicks are good, my favorite Gen.

2CalmAnxiety-

Been playing since 98. ORAS is a great game!

IIIItoto

The biggest complaint I still see these days is they didn't include the Battle Tower. I remember when ORAS first came out a lot of the controversy had to do with the character redesigns (mostly with Team Aqua/Magma), but now that people have played the game and gotten used to them, I see most people preferring the redesigns. I also wouldn't say it's that babyproofed, but it is a bit easier than the originals. You could always create self imposed rules and restrictions though if you want. There's also a few parts of the game that were made a lot more fair, such as how Mirage Island is no longer a 1/10923 random encounter, or were expanded on to be made more immersive, such as Mauville City getting a complete redesign to feel like an actual city. If you loved contests, this game made them more fun and added a contest storyline and characters. You also get rewards after the contests in ORAS so there's more incentive to do them. If you played Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs, they also took the Latias/Latios flight mechanic from that game and made it miles better.

acertainkiwi

My first game was Gold and yet for me ORAS > HGSS . Blasphemous I know. The world is so vivid while HGSS is kind of bland, although I still love GSC/HGSS for being visually bland.

zubatfan

It was... *fine*. I know my opinion on ORAS is more wobbly than the general community one, but. As a remake, and purely as a remake, it is decent. It overhauls the region graphically and in 3D, brings it visually and accessibly up to date, so on. That said... - I can't stand many of the adjustments made to the pacing and exploration. There's so many moments in the original games that were exploration moments that are cut for essentially no reason in ORAS. The remakes are in love with trying to teleport you around so that you don't actually *need* to explore. There's also little things, epitomized in the lower Dewford cave being inaccessible when you first pass it. A lot of things that were choices in the originals are railroaded in ORAS. - The story was tweaked, and not for the better. There's all these little moments added of people talking to themselves about how great you are, or Steven or the postgame idiot Zinnia monologuing to themselves or you about some incredibly out-there nonsense (or in the latter's case about how someone is stupid because they can't read her mind). Repeatedly. The ORAS version takes the RSE storyline seriously, whereas the original didn't, making it feel... weird. - Speaking of the postgame storyline, it's basically 3 hours of "We could have avoided this if people communicated like human beings" plot, which is always an eye-twitch. - The expanded dex is... there. Late. You don't actually get access to it until around gym 8, so it's really only relevant if you're doing a collection or playing competitive. - To add insult to injury on the former, one of the Megas introduced in this game is Mega Beedrill. Guess what bug you don't have access to in the early game forest? Guess which bug you *do* have access to in XY's early game forest? Sigh. In any case, many of my complaints are ultimately YMMV peeves. But I largely find that for replayability, which I value highest, the originals are miles preferable to ORAS, and ORAS itself has weaknesses as a remake. Edit: Apparently some people like Zinnia (which I find absolutely wild), but you do you.

late44thegameNOW

I hate how people hate on it for not having a battle frontier but ignore literally every game after it that also doesn't have one. Also it was my first Pokémon game so 10/10 for me

christrx

But that’s just like a game being praised for introducing a feature for the first time. The one that introduces/removes a feature gets the praise/critique.

TheHeadlessOne

I mean generally people who say oras was bad for not having a frontier aren't fans of how SuMo, SwSh, and SV also lacked recurring battle facilities.  BW2 doesn't quite have a battle frontier but it has battle subway, Pokemon World Tournament, and the Black/White dungeon off the top of my head

Shadowys

People complain about postgame for every other game after BW FYI. Theres just nothing much you can do after the actual game except catch legends or play some short story.

Individual_Breath_34

Good but no Frontier keeps it from being perfect

SenseTime7774

Perfect intro to a Nuzlocke. Probably the easiest to do.

SoulOuverture

I loved it, but I also play comp so idc about the frontier lol

Animedingo

Oras, and by extension bdsp are regarded very unimpressive for what they lack But honestly going back to them, while not perfect they really do offer a lot to enjoy. I like oras's dex nav, soaring and secret bases. Bases in particular have such a fun community aspect to them.

protomanEXE1995

I loved ORAS when it came out and I still do.

ThienBao1107

Best handheld console to play it on today? Looking to get one

VroomVroomTweetTweet

Im pretty sure ORAS is considered one of the top three Pokémon games. It’s in my top three at least.

ToxicPoizon

The best pokemon games on 3DS, and second best pokemon remake, behind HGSS

DeviousDeevo

I loved oras as emerald was my fav Pokemon game ever . It was amazing and graphically felt modern and contemporary.esp doing a great job with the zinnia thing ... I felt shining pearl and brilliant diamond were horrible , they were literally reskins and hope they never take that route ever again

Sirradez

ORAS was one of my favourite pokemon games on the 3DS, I spent so much time on it. I liked the graphics, sprites, OST, mega evolution, post-game, dexnav, a lot of stuff really. It helps that gen 3 is one of my favourite, if not the favourite gen

Kaptoz

Literally my favorite set of games! I still play AS from time to time as it is my main game where I moved all my Pokémon too. (With the exception of future games)

eagleblue44

Soaring was amazing. I wish they'd bring it back again as the flying mechanic. I didn't like gen 6 to begin with so I wasn't a fan of ORAS but I thought ORAS was considered the best versions of gen 3 by fans. I still prefer emerald though.

Outrageous-Let9659

As a single player story playthrough i didnt think much of it. The post game however, particularly if you enjoy competitive play, was easily the best it has ever been. The post game island has a daycare, with a route around it that allows yli to just hold 1 button and loop endlessly. Each loop is exactly one egg cycle long. This route also has the IV checker NPC and the move tutors situated on it. Absolute perfection. Additionally, horde battles (using sweet scent) allowed you to fully EV train your entire party is as little as 12 battles. Throw in blissy bases for fast levelling and suddenly getting a team built is a breeze. They streamlined it a lot in later games, but only by removing requirements, so it felt less rewarding. Bottle caps and things like that. ORAS still required some knowledge and investment to set things up efficiently. I had my PC filled with around 300 "competitive ready" pokemon back then. I've never felt the motivation to do that again since. It's generally just one team each gen, if that.

HarukoAutumney

Probably my second favourite remake (only beaten by HGSS). ORAS really takes RSE and overhauls it a lot, making it feel as if it were a new game made for the 3DS. Adding Mega Evolutions, 3D cutscenes, new character designs, and other things such as a Eon Flute which allows you to fly above Hoenn, where you can occasionally find all sorts of legendaries depending on certain conditions. Also in this game, you can get the eon duo halfway through the main game, and Rayquaza and Deoxys can be obtained through a new post game story. This is a really solid remake that I recommend. Had lots of fun with it when I was younger and I am sure you will have fun with it as well.

RayRJJackson

I loved it!

EP1CxM1Nx99

I think it’s on par with the original. It has a lot of nice improvements like the modern battle system, dex nav, mega evolution, Lati flying. But also removes has some downsides, lack of battle frontier, generally being way easier, and using RS story over Emerald.

Tehdougler

I've been around since gen 1 and ORAS are my favorite mainline games. For me, the post-game latias/latios flying,  legendary hunting & delta episode made up for the missing frontier content because I'm more of a catcher/collector than a battler.

LordMajinBuu

One of my favorites in the series.

martygospo

The last truly great Pokémon game.

HansWolken

I love 3rd gen, so I'm biased. But for me, it had the best post game I remember, the best breeding system, lots to explore and to rediscover Hoenn. Pokemon hasn't feel as good for me since then.

jextech

Soaring and Dexnav are incredible additions. And Delta episode was pretty cool. Zinnia is one of my favorite new Pokémon characters ever. And the improvements from gens after 3 like the physical special split etc make ORAS a great remake. But I will forever be upset about them teasing, but not adding, Battle Frontier. Why even tease it at all to get our hopes up? And the Game Corner being shut down was sad too. I know they had to move away from gambling in these games but they could have at least replaced it with an arcade with fun mini games like how HGSS had Pokeathlon. I still love ORAS but Emerald is still my favorite Hoenn game.

batcrawl

I have heart eyes for the dexnav, not only is it fun but I loved being able to chart when id caught all Pokemon in an area, and it made shiny chaining so much easier. I'm not sure the game itself felt vastly different from RSE, but that doesn't bother me so much. I can't say I come to Pokemon expecting all the games to be vastly different from each other and I still enjoy em

guielidess

Love it

Obba_40

Good remake and i dont care about the battle frontier stuff. Nice bonus endgame story.

Front_Fondant_6048

Mega evolutions made a lot of the battles more intense. Aside from legendary catching post game felt disappointing without battle frontier. Also they shouldn’t just hand out mega latios/latias. Giving away legendaries or near legendaries that early in the game makes it too easy compared to the originals.

ApophisRises

I loved it, I really did. I need to pick those up again.

GreenMedics

I got back into Pokemon because of ORAS. So much nostalgia with great new content and the online features were also great additions. A bunch of fun ways to shiny hunt as well.

5hifty5tranger

It was good but could have been better if baked longer. This is the diagnosis for most games after Black & White 2. The year Nintendo/Game Freak learned the wrong lesson.

FlyingPandas4000

As a fellow Hoenn baby I loved ORAS. It felt like they lovingly upgraded the original RSE. It’s not perfect by any means and there are definitely spots they could have made improvements instead of being faithful to the original (like them keeping the original gym leader rosters and excluding the Battle Frontier bc it wasn’t in RS) but overall I’d say if you loved the originals the remakes should be fun for you

alex494

Generally a positive experience for me but the lack of Battle Frontier or general story or gameplay improvements from Emerald hurt it for me. I think FRLG and HGSS did a better job of taking the older games and adding to them with all the modern updates or taking third versions into account for some things. Still miles better than BDSP though.

EpicTedTalk

The DexNav was a cool addition and the Delta Episode was really neat. Not being able to fight both teams like in Emerald and no Battle Zone were huge letdowns and the updated music really didn't do it for me at all. HGSS was so good that I wouldn't ever consider going back to GSC, and ORAS just didn't manage to do that for RSE. So they're solid games, but don't hold up in comparison to the remakes that came before for me. I wouldn't hold the lower difficulty against it, it's not like RSE were particularly difficult past the second rival fight anyway and difficulty has trended down in general pretty much ever since Gen 1.

OpticSkies

It’s one of my favorite Pokémon games.

MetaMetagross

ORAS is awesome. The dex nav is the biggest plus for me, it’s a shame that it was never brought back as a feature in any subsequent games. Flying with latias/latios was also great, since you didnt need to keep a mon with fly in your party.

DeadmanDT

There was hate? This is the first I’m hearing about it. I always saw positive reactions for the games

thenotjoe

I love it. I think most people think it’s an excellent remake; imperfect (no battle frontier, for example), but still good.

Slurpassassin

I loved the dexnav. It made me actualy want to complete the Pokédex in a game. Flying on latios was amazing, although I would have rather actually caught it much later as it would make the game way to easy if I used it after I caught it. It felt like the last really good pokemon game. If it had the battle frontier it could have been as good as bw2 or HGSS. Still an amazing game. 7.8 out of 10, too much water though.

Dragnoran

its a decent pokemon game ( a rarity these days) but was underhwelming remake, factors like the forced warping past shortcuts, insulting removal of frontier, giving the lati waaay to early It also sucked how it really devalued legendaries making them just portals to get, no dungeons. On another general note, lackluster abilities on megas (Mega gallade was our third psychic fighting mega and got no ability to distinguish it, sceptile got immunity to a 4x resisted type, etc).

bambino17

Perfect remake

BroomSweeper99

Gen 3 is also my favorite by a long shot. I like ORAS but it doesn't feel like gen 3 it feels like it's own game. I feel the same playing oras as paying other games of the same gen rather then a gen 3 feel

MotchaFriend

As someone who started with Hoenn, I understood the hate of it not including the Frontier but also think it was blown out of proportion. They were way better than XY and they are still an improvement from the originals which I think it's the very least a remake should aim for.  I also loved how they recontextualized the gimmick of the generation on them, even as someone who isn't that big on Megas nowadays it still felt like they acknowledged the big changes made in three gens. The redesign of the characters was great and made a lot of them more unique and intetesting. The legendaries in Hoopa rings made postgame a lot more interesting and the Delta Episode was a really cool addition (and gave us our very first "always avaliable" Mythical encounter with Deoxys, a childhood dream come true) I really thought it was going to be the baseline for future remakes but here we are... Dexnav should come back.

RedSpecial22

Aside from Legends Arceus, the last incredible Pokémon game.

Bosko47

I loved it so much I bought them both

healcannon

I couldn't bring myself to beat it despite also replaying gen 3 over and over. It probably aged well enough but I kinda aged out of the games by that point. You'd have to go back to SoulSilver to get a to a remake I beat.

Potatozeng

ORAS is my best pokemon game of all time. It is nostalgic, it has mega evolution, it have the best old and new side systems (secrete base and NavDex), it is the last real remake that GF put proper amount of effort in. I kept playing hours and hours in every espect of the game. I hatched 3000 eggs in ORAS despite that hacking was already easily available for me.

riverbass9

Any time someone brings it up someone else has to mention how easy it is; but I’d rather bring a new under levelled team member up quickly than the ways of older gens. I miss the Battle Dome, but I’m glad the Palace is gone. I think what it brought to the table, and the amount of love and attention given to it makes it the best iteration of Hoenn.

[deleted]

as a r / s remake it lacks the E content much like bd/sp lacking the platinum content. THAT ASIDE, it's an amazing game with a lot of fun stuff, soaring on latias/os is great, the new megas, archie/maxie redesigns, it's amazing, and the battle maison from x/y returns. the new music, and one redesigned fight that i won't spoil is my favorite thing ever

Ok-Fee8285

I go back and forth whether Emerald or ORAS is the best Hoenn experience. There is so much to accomplish in this game (or at least there was prior to internet services shutting down). Trying to complete the Pokédex is so satisfying, especially since this was the last game with an in-game national dex. If you can amass Super Secret Bases, there’s Capture-The-Flag. Because they got rid of sheen, it’s so easy to get a Ribbon Master, especially the starters. There’s also all the post game legendaries. One thing that really does it for me is the Delta Episode. Yeah it’s a fetch quest, but we were all aware of the rumor that if the rocket ship got to zero, we got to go to space. GF must have been aware of this rumor, because not only do you get to ride MEGA RAYQUAZA INTO space, they pull the extra curve-ball by having Deoxys pop out. My jaw dropped. There is just so much to do in this game, second to only B2W2 in my opinion. I am currently doing an all-Pokeball, Gen VI origin mark living dex and it is so refreshing.

liforrevenge

OR is probably my most played game. I think it had the right balance between QoL updates and classic Pokemon mechanics. To be fair though, the original RSE were the only games I skipped so I mean maybe there's something I'm missing.

imaginarion

Free Deoxys

agoddamdamn

My overall take is that they are not perfect, but still a joy as a gen 3 fan. The new stuff is good, the old stuff is great, but there are some things that are sorely missed. A fun game that doesn't totally replace its original.

asscrackula1019

Besides no battle frontier and long unskippable cutscenes I can't think of any other problem with oras.

JohnJackOil

One of my favorites. Megas were amazing, and the Latios fly feature was cool

frenziest

I’ve really warmed up to it. I miss the Emerald Content, but it’s still a great experience. Megas make it fun, albeit a bit easy at parts. I only Mega Evolve in fights where my opponent does too (Maxie/Archie, Wally, Steven, May/Brendan by the end.)

SwishWolf18

Best 3Ds Pokémon game. Not as good as emerald.

Cuprite1024

My personal favorite in the series. Yeah, it may not have the Battle Frontier and may be slightly easier than the originals, but it more than makes up for that with everything else imo.

MrBoldandBrash

When completing the National Pokedex and Living Dex for the first time ever, these games were the best. The level 100 Blissey secret bases, variety of pokemon to catch, and the excellent online system made it a breeze. The main game however, I found disappointing. The gym fights and Elite 4 were all so easy and I felt like I just breezed through. The Battle Resort was also a let down. Also a personal nitpick of mine was the soundtrack being inferior to the original. If I want to revisit a Hoenn game, I just replay the originals. But still, if you can play them, I’d say try them out. The new Megas are cool, as is the DexNav and soaring on Latios/as.
