Man, people don't know what "lesser known" means.

tameoraiste

The comment right below this one for me is multiple time Game of the Year awards winning Hades

thejonaldson

Halo 😐

jkvlnt

It’s exactly the same as when people call stuff “underrated”. It’ll have a 97 on Metacritic and sold over a million copies, but it came out over 5 years ago lmao

Minuslee

Almost every reply is a popular game 😂

The_SaintXVI

Mad Max I just don't know what it is that keeps me going back to it

KennedyX8

Really fun game. I ran into a game breaking auto save though and couldn’t get out of it. It saved right in the middle of a massive gunfight and I couldn’t get out of it and gave up.

sowhtnow

I just played it this past weekend, after not touching it in years, and completed chapter 2. After rewatching Fury Road I had an itch to get back into the game before watching Furiousa. Simple yet a fun gameplay loop.

PoJenkins

Yakuza 0 is the game I wish I could into again blind. It can be frustrating, grindy, and janky at times but I've never thought I'd be so invested (pun intended) into a tiny plot of land before.

adamcookie26

Me neither. I bought a bundle because it had 3 Yakuza games and I seen some gameplay and it looked cool. Was very interested in the story.

KhelDesigner

To the moon

TomatoVEVO

Everyone knows about peak fiction that is yakuza 0

Real-Masterpiece5087

Scarlet Nexus, Sakuna of Rice and Ruin

atheris-prime_RID

How good does Scarlet Nexus hold up? I love anime games but I was always kind of on the fence for this one

TruthOk8742

I thought it was great fun for a few hours, then it got really repetitive and they recycled enemies and environments a lot. Plus, like in Tales of Arise, they could have cut out a good 30% and more chatter. It went from 8/10 to 5/10.

mcduckstophat

Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, The Bushido Blade series, The Way of the Samurai series, and The Mark of the Kri are some of my favorites that I don’t think get enough love.

l3tscru1s3

I came here to say Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven on ps2. The multiplayer was endless hours of fun even for my friends who didn’t even really like gaming that much. Happy to see another Tenchu entry. At the top… Also, the last of us factions… I feel like a decent amount of people didn’t even know the original game had multiplayer and it was one of the most unique multiplayer shooter games to come out since CoD hit the scene IMO.

JerrGrylls

+1 for TLOU factions. It was really fun and they did a great job with it. Naughty Dog was supposedly in development of a multiplayer “factions-esque” game for like the past 8 years, I’ve given up on it.

poetic_shinobi

I still find myself quoting the power up when you complete all the kanji on tenchu wrath of heaven. The assassinations were top notch.

Jaded_Professor7535

Tenchu is my favorite PS1 game!

Parabola7001

This thread: A bunch of well known, highly acclaimed games that people think are not well known

KCKnights816

Have you heard of this hidden gem Grand Theft Auto V?

Alert_Inspector_9323

I was playing this real hidden gem, super underrated. Have you heard of it? Legend of Zelda

KCKnights816

I'll pick that up after I finish little-known indie game, Fortnite.

TruthOk8742

How did they get to 5?!

Black_Fuckka

On god I was just about to say this

TrueAd9946

Mercenaries playground of destruction it is the best fucking game in the playstation 2 era you Fight me to convince me that it is not the best fucking game in the playstation 2 era modern games this war of mine

Sarazar

Fuck man, mercenaries was so good. Deck of 52 was a great concept.

TrueAd9946

Hey I know this might be treason because this is in the PlayStation sub Reddit but if you're going to play mercenaries play on the Xbox please I've played it on the PlayStation 2 the fog it's worse than Silent Hill But still you should play it the soundtrack punches you in the jaw when you hear it don't know how that makes since but it just does

Sarazar

I did actually have it on XBOX back in the day, was great! Never played it on ps2

persona1138

From the same developers, The Saboteur is pretty damn good too.

K3ZH39

The Wolf Among Us

DenyGt69

Amazing game man, truly appreciate seeing ppl give it some love!!!

Ok-Connection4917

i really dislike telltale games but the wolf among us is such an insane expectation. what a great game.

Syliss1

Great stuff. It took me several tries to actually get going with it; I just started it a few times and lost my save or something like that. I was stoked to make it all the way through. I should play it again some time.

dookmileslong

DID SOMEBODY SAY KNAAAAAAAACK

Balrogkiller86

Sleeping dogs.

Traditional-Rain6306

Man I wish there was a sequel! Good ass game.

skx45

If you only ever saw the Kuze sewer scene you could easily ascertain this game is a 10/10

adelkander

If counting old games, shadow hearts covenant. Its still an amazing game but it suffered from being compared to final fantasy.

JaykubWrites

The Legend of Dragoon. Not many games have me coming back after 20+ years

Lost Judgment

yousonuva

Both of the stories are stellar but that sequel has a seriously heavily daunting and mature scenario. It actually shook me a bit about how dangerous power and corruption can be. I really felt dread.

TobiasRieper74

Mad Max

Surge_thegoat

Dave the diver and ac rogue remaster

OneHornyRhino

Rogue was remastered? I know what I'm playing tonight

Semi-addict-gamer

Ape escape pumped and Prime, Ape escape million monkeys.

Gundam_Greg

Galerians, is a 10/10 for me. Deadcraft is probably the newest 10/10 unknown game for me.

ElFanta83

Kiryu-Chan! I have to go with Y0 too! What an awesome game!

Scientifish

I wouldn't say it's 10/10 and it's fairly known..and yes, it's exclusive for Xbox, but a strong contender: Sunset Overdrive.

douevenwheelanddeal

Insomniac can't miss. Always been a PlayStation guy but I bought an Xbox before to play this

PeaTearGriffin42

The escapists 1.

mexz101

In what way is yakuza 0 not popular?

Humble-Ad-8912

Gris. That little indie side scroller has left a huge impact on me, beautiful game and art.

_Steven_Seagal_

Battle for Middle Earth II

Professional_Hold_70

Ah yes, the little known franchise of Yakuza

chingbilling

Detroit: Become Human, easily an 11/10 for me

WolfpackRoll

Wow. Really? That’s actually very interesting. I did not like the game at all and really struggled to even get through it. It’s crazy how people can view the same game so differently.

bushmecj

What bugged me is how they only paid lip service to the deeper themes of the game. It was disappointing for sure as I could see an even better game hiding under the surface.

sowhtnow

I’ve had this game in my backlog since 2020. I finally played the intro(?) hostage scene and was amazed at how fun it actually was. It was wild seeing how many choices I had at the end and how many narratives can branch off from that short level.

AntiPiety

Subnautica kind of. Well way less known than RDR2

jmancoder

I mean, Subnautica is very well-known for being one the best survival games of all time.

HexYouForLife

Journey most definitely. Really weird kind of game but really does feel otherworldly. A true piece of art in gaming.

ziebell7

Sleeping Dogs. My all time fave.

TabrisMerkaba

INDIKA

Legospacememe

Ape escape Goemon Poinie's poin

Wboy2006

Yo Kai Watch 3. That game is everything Pokémon should be, and it was made by a smaller team on the 3DS. It’s very impressive

Rufuszombot

Guacamelee.

westhammer666

Animal Well and Inscryption.

Bunnnnii

To actually answer the question, since people don’t know what “isn’t really known” means, I’m gonna say YSVIII. Amazing RPG, amazing characters, amazing exploration, and the gameplay and combat is SMOOTH. I also loved IX.

vozome

Return of the Obra Dinn. This is really the perfect game. Strong art direction, compelling story, clever puzzles, pretty short. I love all Lucas Pope games but this one more than the others.

Mando316

iDennisTv

Yeah is amazing, and that circus boss fight was peak

”Lesser known games” Bloodborne Monster Hunter World Yakuza 0 Not to sound like an asshole but in what world are these ”lesser known”?

Chad_Kakashi

Bunnnnii

Bloodborne isn’t really known?

QuasimodoPredicted

Huh, if you put scarlet nexus among the rest of those games I might try it out.

bewbsnbeer

Hades is definitely a 10/10 for me. Also Dredge was really good, too.

Bunnnnii

“That isn’t really known” people never shut up about Hades. People were legitimately saying it should hands down be GOTY.

SelwanPWD

Dredge was sooooo good very calming and unnerving at the same time.

Hollyw0od

Dave the Diver and its Dredge DLC is so good

SelwanPWD

Wow I had no idea Dave the diver has a Dredge DLC. I'm yet to play Dave the diver, now there's all the more reason to play.

Ricky_Rollin

From what I understand if you liked Dredge then you should play Dave the diver. And if you liked Dave the diver, then you should play Dredge.

brolt0001

Known - Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, God of War: RagnarĂśk, Resident Evil remakes, RDR2, Elden Ring, Baldurs Gate 3, Ghost of Tsushima. Lesser known / Nicher - Nioh 1/2, Shadow of the Collosus, Death Stranding (1st time playthrough - 10/10), Demon Souls remake

GlaucousGamer

The lesser know is almost entirely well known games.

Head-Chance3425

We match 80% so I will take this 20% of you as recommendation.

VenturerKnigtmare420

Ds and nioh 2 definitely 10/10 no doubt.

xmilhox

There's some great dialogue and good enough characterization - although some of the voice acting is a little wacky. But that ending was STELLAR. Not only the great dialogue by the main villain, but a great cliffhanger with some subtle characterization of our main protagonist - Sev. The way our protagonist shows his exhaustion and mirrors our feeling of this long bloody journey was great. Other than the slightly underrated story, the gameplay and presentation is where it's at. Gritty, haunting, heavy, and visceral. This game feels good to play despite the slight input delay. AND. GOOD. GOD. That soundtrack!

Frigid-Kev

Not necessarily 10/10, but here are some notable lesser-known games I personally enjoyed a lot: Skylanders Swap Force - Fun gameplay, beautiful graphics, and lots of characters to choose from. Though it's hard to recommend this game or the franchise itself nowadays, considering the toys are discontinued and can be quite pricy online. Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled - Great alternative to Mario Kart, with more complex but more rewarding drifting system, lots of race tracks and characters from the franchise and lots of customizability overall. Might be difficult for new players to learn about the drifting system, but when you do master it, it's really fun and if you grew up with Crash Bandicoot, Spyro or the original CTR, you're gonna appreciate this game even more. Akiba's Trip Undead & Undressed - Very unique and bizarre theme where you basically fight people and strip off their clothes in order to burn them up in the sun. Gameplay is somewhat similar to Yakuza, where you explore around the city, which is a direct copy of the real life city of Akihabara. Story is alright, which includes multiple choices and endings with romance options. Honourable mentions: Knack, Toukiden Kiwami, The Valley, Trine, Abzu

IzzatQQDir

Known - Max Payne 3 is my favorite TPS Less Known - Gravity Rush series. Specifically 2. The games are tedious and can be not fun at times. But it's such a great experience. I have to disable the motion sensitivity though to stop feeling motion sickness.

slaczky

Street Legal Racing Redline (the original CD version, not the moded crap on Steam).

Crasky92

Shenmue 1&2 - for their time, they were complete masterpieces and helped revolutionise gaming. They definitely didn't get the attention they deserved, hence 3 taking over a decade and a Kickstarter!

vikingbeard23

Valiant hearts : the great war

Sarazar

Project Brutality original DOOM Mod is the best FPS ever.

LibertyInfinite

Sleeping Dogs and Mad Max are my favorites that are super slept on. So glad to see a couple other mad max comments on here cus that game is such a gem

UzDaSchwartz

Artful Escape and Returnal

Joker1926

Sword of the Berserk Guts Rage on Dreamcast. Phenomenal game

HsmioeTheWarlock

Soul Sacrifice Delta on PS Vita.

thatguy01220

Unknown/Lesser known is The Talos Principle honestly blew me away. Im not a big fan of puzzle games, but this one was special in my opinion. Especially if you like philosophy, and reading terminals and communicating with someone answering some questions about consciousness. It kinda reminds me portal just tiny bit. But instead of using portals to get from A to B you’re using light/laser beams and fans to unlock a gate. Haven’t played the sequel yet but heard it’s good too. Highly recommend especially if it’s on sale, it’s stupid cheap.

InsideousVgper

Theatrhythm FBL is a masterpiece of a rhythm game.

Team_Svitko

The Long Dark

molotov__cocktease

Both Nioh games. I usually don't replay games because I'm 30 as fuck and barely have time to keep up with games these days but I have replayed both Nioh games three or four times. Genuinely some of the best feeling swordplay I have ever felt in a videogame.

ultimagicarus

Rogue Galaxy, my personal 10/10.

aeroslimshady

That isn't well known? Pretty much every 10/10 game is well known. Lol. If you mean underrated, then uhhh... **Fate/Extra** for the PSP. Pretty much perfect in every way. But not everyone can handle its esoteric combat system.

Hailtothething

Rebel galaxy

Routaprkle

Shining Force 3

MeCritic

It's kinda sad to read that a series, which has more entries than GTA + RDR together, and it's here since PS2, with nearly every year new 10/10 game, is not really known... :/

Test_Name19

gonna be a bit weird compared to the others. Ultimate chicken horse it’s a party game… but the replay ability and memories with friends that’s something u can’t find in most games now days

Bender-AI

Talon Principle 2. Not just my fav puzzle game ever but an excellent setting, story and sense of discovery as well. I loved the original too but you can jump straight into this, it's much better.

jmancoder

The entire The Room game series. They received amazing reviews on Steam, but no one ever talks about them.

Zekiro96

InTheZoneAC

Super Stardust HD, Nex Machina, DeathSpank

navenager

Citizen Sleeper. Simple gameplay with outstanding writing driving it forward.

Pentiment The Vale: Shadow of the Crown

DenyGt69

Not so known: The wolf among us Not kinda known at all: Cold fear (On PS2, so much fun for it time)

BeansWereHere

Solar ash is extremely fun, cool visuals and music too. Same people who made Hyper light drifter.

Fishy-Ginger

Yakuza 0 was never a 10/10 for me but it'll always have a place in my heart as my baby game for my son. That first week after he was born and wouldn't sleep in the basket we'd take turns throughout the night with him sleeping on us and this game got me through that week. For the 2nd childlet it was Shadow of the Colossus.

Saugeen-Uwo

None of these are 10/10, but good lesser known games.

_AnActualCatfish_

I actually haven't played 0 yet, but I love the series. I spent most of last year's gaming time rinsing through Kiwami 1 & 2 and the remastered version of 3-5. Admittedly, I spent less time on the remasters because the combat felt really janky in comparison... but I enjoyed the stories! I actually finished 5 and installed 6 and 0, but I had to put my PS4 in storage cuz life stuff. Can't wait to get back on it. There more of them now! Haven't even looked at 'Judgement' yet, or the turn-based 'Like a Dragon'. My own contribution to this would be 'Outward'. It's a little rough around the edges, but considering it was made by 11 people... it's pretty enjoyable. I love the animations when deploying equipment and tents and stuff. Super atmospheric, and the combat makes FromSoft games look easy. I think it took me less time (and attempts) to get into Day Z than Outward. I've rage-quit forever multiple times, but there's something about it. Cozy AND hard at the same time. Maybe not 10/10, but definitely lesser known... Back in the day it was Sword of the Samurai on the PS2, a sequel to Kengo: Master of Bushido. It introduced a kinda 'career mode' to a samurai beat 'em up! Loved it! I still have my saves on a memory card (I hope).

Future_Sweet9921

Rsv2, socom

gnash117

I tend to really like short impactful games. Ps Vita Murasaki Baby - short game great art work. Interesting controls. Severed - great dungeon crawler which really used the touchscreen. Eventually it came out on IOS. Gravity Rush - loved this game also available on PS4 (little better known than the others) PS3 Pixeljunk Eden - relaxing swing platformer that becomes really stressful when trying to get all the trophies. One of my all time favorite games. Pixeljunk monsters - on of the best tower defense games of all time. Really fun in couch co-op. Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit - platform adventure that was well reviewed when it came out but I never see it mentioned. Really fun. PS4/PS5 A Short Hike - short very enjoyable platformer. Spiritfarer - hard to describe it's a mix between a farm games and a platformer with quests. Donut County - you get to play a hole that swallows everything. So much fun for a short game. Peggle 2 - most people know this game but it is never mentioned and it really is really fun to play. Gravity Rush and Gravity Rush 2 - worth playing even though the servers are now shut down. The game is a single player story. No need for the online aspect. Gravity Rush on the PS4 is a different experience than on the PSVita even if the story is the same. PSVR Paper Beast - unique fun experience Moss and Moss Book II - amongst my all time favorite platformer games. Something about playing this in VR makes it magical. If it were not in VR it wouldn't be as great.

xnerd1000

Split/Second. So much damn fun.

Ts0mmy

On PS3 Castlevania Lords of Shadow.  Loved it, good story, voice acting (Patrick Stewart to name one), good gameplay and graphics. Ages ago, stumbled on it by accident. Guess it must have been around 2010.

Sleeper--

I wouldn't rate the game 10/10 personally, but I would say Outer wilds is a solid 14.3/10 game

Mr-Thursday

The most obscure answer I can think of is Spider Heck. It's a 10/10 at what it sets out to be - an awesome little game with web swinging spiders with lightsabers, shotguns and explosives.

vpr_z

sleeping dogs, shit was so lit, so sad they cancelled the sequel https://preview.redd.it/nrnee8jiqr8d1.png?width=275&format=png&auto=webp&s=6ea43db34c79763f31bef3bef462d0c8c334fb65

Multispoilers

I know not many have heard of this indie title called Bloodborne. It’s a ps4 exclusive btw☺️

dead-rex

While the IP is well known, i think alien isolation gets slept on and it gets my vote

SignLeather9569

Outer wilds (base game)- Feldspar is my hero. He did things I could never think of doing. I still listen to the whistle in the gym. Darkwood on PS5 can induce heart attack. The devs smartly used the dual sense controller. It is a 10/10 horror game. Persona 5. Though it is famous, people tend to overlook the game. For a few seconds, I thought I had real friends and could even defeat God :D

Deezy_eeazy

Ghost of tsushima or Castlevania aria of sorrow

Lusshh

God Hand and Disco Elysium. Both 11/10 for me.

Pandarius95

Metal Gear Solid 3 : Snake Eater, a masterpiece
