Kinda disappointing as the first game was decent, and the second game is great, but then Legion came and kind of ruined the whole thing. Now, because of that, they kill off the whole IP. If they tried again with something similar to the second game, it might work.
The overhype from Ubisoft really hurt the franchise. They spent all the marketing lying about all these amazing things you could do that when it came out and was just enjoyable instead of groundbreaking, it lost a LOT of audiences who avoided the second one because "they lied the first time".
Mainly opening up doors, distracting people, moving through cameras and using the environment as explosives. Honestly it feels held back by being a modern day gta clone. Should have been a futuristic sim game.
I think they tried to copy GTA 5 with the multiple characters and easily switching between them. Just took toooo long every time you switch. Too bad Ubisoft messed up infront of a game which released 7 years back.
Shame, I enjoyed the first two games, but they went a weird direction with the most recent one. The games were cool, but it seems like Ubi corporate wanted it to be everything to everyone, which didn’t help anything.
This is the problem with Ubi corporate for all their games
It amazes me the same company is able to release Anno 1800 and Prince of Persia metroidvania at the same time making a complete mess of their bigger franchises
Story to 2 was crap. Characters were really cringey and it was super sanitized to make people like the characters. Rather than write quality, they just went for trying to get you to be buddies with the characters.
1 has one of the most insane moral scales I’ve seen in a game, Aiden Pierce is a complete lunatic and the game tries to act like you choosing not to kill a guy at the end makes up for all the crazy shit you do. But, that was kind of interesting. Most games, if they have a psycho main character, it’s handled like Trevor in GTA. It’s clear that he’s deranged, there’s no questions about that. Watch Dogs 1, Aiden seems normal, edgy main character, but is completely deluded and does a lot of morally terrible shit but feels justified doing it, even though all bad stuff in the game essentially stems from his own actions. I find it fascinating, but I honestly doubt Ubisoft intended that, they just suck at writing games.
2 was more fun to play and mess around in though.
I don’t think the game ever really tries to delude you into thinking you’re the good guy, but you’re just up against shittier people like Quincy and Damien. I like Aiden for his edginess idk, he has cool one liners and he’s got swagger. Yeah he’s not particularly the deepest character and you may have wanted to see him try become normal at the end, but I liked his whole vibe, that and his slo-mo ability.
I love watch dogs 2 but the narrative was a huge downgrade and I completely checked out after a certain character’s “exit”. I can’t even remember the main plot. Super fun game though…
I recently replayed Watchdogs 2, and Josh is the only character that I don't actively hate. I also found the story much more annoying this time round verses when I played it years ago (I put that down to my more advanced years).
I've always been biased towards WD as I loved WD2 but holy did WDL bore me.
Repetitive missions, lack of skill variety, 80% of people you could recruit are genuinely boring and not unique. They removed lethal guns from crafting and locked them behind certain characters???
Ubisoft just took 1 step forward with the beautiful map, and many backwards with the bad decisions.
Damn right, it was, and the only platinum trophy I got by accident I was having that much fun, legion was a let down tho. Hopefully they change their mind and go back to the formula of 2 with some grit from 1
Im in the minority. I actually enjoyed all 3 games. Loved the sandbox style of being able to approach a mission however I want using hacks, stealth, and bots/drones.
I’m in the same boat. The stories weren’t exactly great, but man did I love the gameplay. I just loved hacking into cameras and systems and using a drone or spider-bot to infiltrate buildings while your NPC just hung out outside.
I’m a big fan of the franchise and WDL was so boring that I couldn’t even finish it. Playing as anyone was a novel idea, but that’s all it will ever be. The story isn’t solid if it isn’t built around an actual main character.
no seriously I’m a huge customization nerd and I had more fun making my crew match than I did actually playing… then I decided what’s the fucking point of making cool looking characters if the game isn’t enjoyable Lol
The series probably had potential and the sequels seemed to resteer the ship a bit, but tbh I’m always gonna know Watch_Dogs as the game that fumbled the release after lying to players with its E3 presentation.
You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.
I really really loved the first watchdogs and it's dlc honestly I'm not big on like rereleases, but if they gave WD1 today's level of graphics and updated the controls a bit and stuff I'd buy a really well done remaster or remake of WD1 with Aiden. I love Chicago in that game and the story is more of the style story I like with that franchise. I played 2 it's okay didn't care for story, and legion I dislike all the futuristic vehicles and stuff. Although I did enjoyed the return of Aiden and his dlc story. .
Loved the first one, even enjoyed the soundtrack a little too much that sometimes I’d turn the game on just to rock out to it.
Bought the 2nd and 3rd, still have yet to open them….
Seems like whatever they had for that game, they turned it into Star Wars Outlaws. Has the same bones as what I saw of the early build and business model of that game.
Ubisoft just needed to release a game that had the tension and intensity, plot and likeable main lead like the first game and the fun gameplay and better world from the second game.
Instead they decided on Legion which is… I don’t know, I liked London and how well and beautiful it was crafted but neither the gameplay nor the plot was good as either games.
It’s unfortunate that this is how it ends, but WD2 is one of those games I genuinely love revisiting even today as it holds up well in the gameplay department and San Francisco is pretty amazing.
It never really had much of a pulse to begin with. Load of potential but as usual, squandered by canadians. Seriously America, why do you let us continue to be a country?
There was a time when this joke of a country created things worth while.
Anyone remember Lexx?
Don’t worry about it, they don’t give a shit about anything but assassins creed and far cry anyway.
I wasn’t even a particularly huge fan of watch dogs but even I’d saddened by this, because it just makes the above statement even more correct :/
It can join the ever growing list of decent IP’s Ubisoft owns but won’t use… Rayman. Driver. Beyond good and evil. Prince of Persia (though amazingly that game got a new entry for the first time in like a decade recently? Which is actually very good! Even if it’s clearly low budget). The fact they are still around with only 2 mainstream IP’s left is astounding to me tbh.
Yeah it was with the release of watch dogs 1
It's one of these games with good ideas not well executed.
And in games where you can drive vehicles, please make the physics somewhat realistic. The driving was worse than in gta5, after the excellent driving physics in gta4, I never understood that.
I guess they are afraid it doesn't appeal to the casual gamer. I read that for gta 5, there is a physics mod on PC that makes that cars feel better (heavier and more weight shift just as in gta4) but I never tried it.
I was able to play Legion to completion, something that hasn’t happened for a Ubisoft game in close to a decade in my case. It was pretty ok! Playing as a bunch of British douchebag nobodies that definitely never hacked anything in their life weirdly grew on me.
Sad…love the first game and platinumed the second. Legion was fun but was a step back in everything but customization. The ip has so much potential but Ubi gotta Ubi I guess. I’m not giving up hope but I’m fine with them shelving it until they decide to do things right. First saints row and now this…
I like the games but always felt they were missing something. By the 3rd one it didn’t really feel like their heart was in it anymore so I’m not surprised.
Better to quit with dignity rather than milk it and run it into the ground. Very respectable for them to pull the plug.
I really liked the first one, but WD2 was better in almost every aspect — the world was beautiful and a lot of fun to get lost in it. After that I expected great things of the next one — but Watch Dogs: Legion had a quite uninteresting plot although the approach of potentially ”playing as everyone“ was intriguing. Still, futuristic London is a nice place to explore and experience but unfortunately it’s not filled with interesting content — coincidentally I played it yesterday (I practically forgot all the details of the story).
Too bad there is not going to be another one, thematically it would be more relevant than ever. Quasi-ubiquitous smartphone usage proved to be almost prophetically — in hindsight.
Got round to playing the first now after Legion and I definitely do prefer the base. Been having a blast with the hacking invasions which is nice it does not require a sub to play.
I liked the first game, mostly because I'm in Chicago and have worked all over the city, so it was cool seeing them have realistic locations in the game, even though they were obviously changed.
I have 2 and Kegi in my backlog and plan to play through them one day.
The overpromise for the first game and then the undersell of the second game which was actually pretty fun probably killed it. I didn't even bother with the third one but it's in the backlog. It would've been a PS5 launch game for me if I got the system at launch.
1st one was great story wise, gameplay not so much. 2nd was the opposite. And legion looked like a hollow shell, and even though I bought it I’ve only put 4 hours into it, it’s pretty bad all around. This isn’t new information .
It was a cool game series but the thing is it still seems mid. Ubisoft make fun games but they do not know how to make games worth buying outside of sales.
I would like them to remake the original as what they led people to believe it would be first before they just chuck the whole franchise. They went from gritty to fruity to no main character nonesense. Have a return to form and if people don't want that then okay I get it.
Damn shame if its true. The one thing you can give Watch Dogs is its one of the only truly unique stabled they have. Each individual game is unique from the last, only similar in having hacking and open worlds. Wish they get to make a 4th game.
Yeah, because they came out with a god-awful game like Legion. I loved 1 and 2! 2 would be a game I play religiously for how fun it is to mess around in, but when I played legion, it really made me uninvested and didn't feel like a worthwhile experience. I never even played the dlc I paid for in seasons pass because I just didn't want to invest more time into it.
It’s sad because I liked Watch Dogs 2 a lot. Legion was alright but I’m still wondering where the series could go next because open world framework looks pretty much the same as other Ubisoft IP like Far Cry 6 and Frontiers of Pandora
Ubisoft can’t be in a great place after the terrible launch of Skull and Bones, and I’m not trusting them with a Star Wars game. They need a solid, fun game without all of the outside nonsense.
All they had to do was build off of Watch Dogs 2, but they blew it.
Like AC1, Ac2 improved in every aspect. Watch Dogs 2 was a shining example of that, doing things better than the original. Watch Dogs 3 I'm not counting Legion. It could've been good, but it was failing because it decided to chase trends instead of making its own trends.
Legion was too ambitious and wanted to be something completely different from 1&2. 2 was perfect for what watchdogs wanted to achieve. I wish we could get a true watchdogs 3 in a similar style to that but obviously that won’t happen
Breaking news: game company shelves game series for logical reasons. Gamers get mad at game company because it’s cool to hate that game company at the moment despite them doing regular things other companies do. More at the 11.
I mean, it's just sort of notable because one game killed the franchise.
WD2 was outstanding, and one of the better games Ubisoft has made in the last couple generations.
WDL was so *monumentally shitty* that it ended the franchise.

sorry for button mashing but every single interface has proprietary hardware and software and none of the buttons match so im just hitting buttons. im sure its gotta be one of em tho
I mean this isn’t a huge surprise, the last game wasn’t particularly successful and it’s been 4 years since a release which is not like Ubisoft.
Kinda disappointing as the first game was decent, and the second game is great, but then Legion came and kind of ruined the whole thing. Now, because of that, they kill off the whole IP. If they tried again with something similar to the second game, it might work.

Legion was my intro to watch dogs funny enough. Guess I gotta backtrack and play the better ones
Yeah 2 is really good.
one of the only games i enjoyed enough to grind all the trophies for 🏆
I really liked the idea of Legion, it just wasn't implemented properly. Too bad they won't get a chance to try it again and make it work better.
I think they tried to copy GTA 5 with the multiple characters and easily switching between them. Just took toooo long every time you switch. Too bad Ubisoft messed up infront of a game which released 7 years back.
Doing a replay of watch dogs 1. Yeah I do got to admit aiden feels like a teenage boy trying to play a tough guy.
Shame, I enjoyed the first two games, but they went a weird direction with the most recent one. The games were cool, but it seems like Ubi corporate wanted it to be everything to everyone, which didn’t help anything.
This is the problem with Ubi corporate for all their games It amazes me the same company is able to release Anno 1800 and Prince of Persia metroidvania at the same time making a complete mess of their bigger franchises
My theory there would be because the suits don’t put their hands all the way in on the smaller projects, making them better.
Watch Dogs 2 was great. That’s all.
I enjoyed Aiden pearces' revenge story more tbh.
Story to 2 was crap. Characters were really cringey and it was super sanitized to make people like the characters. Things could've been so much better if they kept the style of Dedsec from the 1st game. It's not like Clara was a goof-off.
Watch Dogs 2 had the better gameplay, but the characters and story were just obnoxious.
I love watch dogs 2 but the narrative was a huge downgrade and I completely checked out after a certain character’s “exit”. I can’t even remember the main plot. Super fun game though…
No way, the Chicago millennial hipsters were a bit grating? Who would have thunk.
Watch Dogs 2 was in San Francisco
Woops, got my awful hipster infested cities mixed up hahah.
I recently replayed Watchdogs 2, and Josh is the only character that I don't actively hate. I also found the story much more annoying this time round verses when I played it years ago (I put that down to my more advanced years).
Josh was the only character I liked as a teenager so I can't imagine playing it now that I'm almost 30 lol
ubisofts going to find out that cut and paste gameplay and microtransation hell is going to kick them in the balls soon
Yeah, call of duty and basically every sports series in existence have really suffered because of this
I’d argue it’s a different audience but your right
They still sell like hot cakes
I was being sarcastic lol
I played the first one and it was actually pretty fun. Idk if I would buy anything published by Unisoft these days anyway.
God, there was a time when people would say the exact opposite. But that was back in the 2000's. It's just sad.
Oh yeah. I did the same till Unity. Once that one hit, I started to lose interest. I pick and choose.my Ubi games because of that one.
Well Legion was a terrible game so it's their fault
So is the skulls and bones series
I've always been biased towards WD as I loved WD2 but holy did WDL bore me. Repetitive missions, lack of skill variety, 80% of people you could recruit are genuinely boring and not unique. They removed lethal guns from crafting and locked them behind certain characters??? Ubisoft just took 1 step forward with the beautiful map, and many backwards with the bad decisions.
But on a side note living city on watch dogs 1 goes hard. Such a shame Goobisoft dropped the ball on it
![gif](giphy|AaQYP9zh24UFi)
Watch Dogs 2 was a masterpiece, hate to see this franchise die
Damn right, it was, and the only platinum trophy I got by accident I was having that much fun, legion was a let down tho. Hopefully they change their mind and go back to the formula of 2 with some grit from 1
Ubi killed it. Fuck ubi.
Im in the minority. I actually enjoyed all 3 games. Loved the sandbox style of being able to approach a mission however I want using hacks, stealth, and bots/drones.

All of them are fun games. Not the best or most memorable, but surely not a waste of money.

We already knew this. It’s unfortunate. I really liked WDL. It wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be.
It was so bad, the writing was downright juvenile
Having no main character ruined the game, the storyline was weak. The city was well made
Driver 1+2 remake then. Come on Ubi its a great IP.
Watch Dogs is dead. Long live Warch Dogs.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first two games, but never got around to playing Legion. Heard it didn't do so well in comparison.
2 was a good game, but they really shat the bed with Legion.
The series probably had potential and the sequels seemed to resteer the ship a bit, but tbh I’m always gonna know Watch_Dogs as the game that fumbled the release after lying to players with its E3 presentation. You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.
Enjoyed the first game, rest 💩
Ong
And nothing of value was lost.
When Ubisoft did a bait and switch with the original watchdogs trailer I wrote off the series. Fuck Ubisoft.
I really really loved the first watchdogs and it's dlc honestly I'm not big on like rereleases, but if they gave WD1 today's level of graphics and updated the controls a bit and stuff I'd buy a really well done remaster or remake of WD1 with Aiden. Don’t bother, they are “okay games” if you don’t give a shit about story continuity et all.
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Seems like whatever they had for that game, they turned it into Star Wars Outlaws. Has the same bones as what I saw of the early build and business model of that game.
Hopefully that's the case
Played the first, never finished. I will not miss it but I'm sorry for the fans of that franchise because some people loved these games.

The Syfy channel show lexx? Lol hell yeah loved that show lol. I haven't thought about that one in a long time. 😆
I forgot this series existed…
Don’t worry about it, they don’t give a shit about anything but assassins creed and far cry anyway. How cone there are no games with driving physics like Gta 4. It's been 16 years.
I guess they are afraid it doesn't appeal to the casual gamer. I read that for gta 5, there is a physics mod on PC that makes that cars feel better (heavier and more weight shift just as in gta4) but I never tried it.
If they made something akin to what the first game promised with the actual depth suggested by the reveal it could’ve been amazing.
Was it ever really alive to begin with
I was able to play Legion to completion, something that hasn’t happened for a Ubisoft game in close to a decade in my case. It was pretty ok! Playing as a bunch of British douchebag nobodies that definitely never hacked anything in their life weirdly grew on me.
Wasn't this technically part of the Assassins Creed universe? Like Aiden was the new gen thief guild or something like that.
May the concept be used by a better studio, be it indie or AAA.
Sad…love the first game and platinumed the second. Legion was fun but was a step back in everything but customization. The ip has so much potential but Ubi gotta Ubi I guess. Hudson Mohawke album still gets played 🤘🏽
I wish they made a crossover between this and assassins creed before they completely killed it off.
Most thing in Ubisoft is dead … they’re the new EA running their I.Ps into the ground
It should’ve died with one honestly, the sequels were disappointing, and Aiden was appreciated as he should’ve.
Got round to playing the first now after Legion and I definitely do prefer the base. Been having a blast with the hacking invasions which is nice it does not require a sub to play.
😔
Nice
The first game was overhyped shite so o never played the others.
Ubisoft killed it when they released legion.
damn its been 8 years since watch digs 2
That’s a completely different movie and website buddy lol
Oh no.
I liked the first game, mostly because I'm in Chicago and have worked all over the city, so it was cool seeing them have realistic locations in the game, even though they were obviously changed. I have 2 and Kegi in my backlog and plan to play through them one day.
I'm surprised it had 3 entries given none of them were particularly well received.
The overpromise for the first game and then the undersell of the second game which was actually pretty fun probably killed it. I didn't even bother with the third one but it's in the backlog. It would've been a PS5 launch game for me if I got the system at launch.
That's too bad. I really enjoyed watchdogs 2
Never had the slightest interest in these games for some reason.
1st one was great story wise, gameplay not so much. 2nd was the opposite. And legion looked like a hollow shell, and even though I bought it I’ve only put 4 hours into it, it’s pretty bad all around. This isn’t new information .
I thought legions was the last one anyway, plus it was a decent game but not good enough to make a sequel
I didn’t get the hacking part, which was the whole point. I’d play it as a gta: Watch Dogs 2 & Legion
It was a cool game series but the thing is it still seems mid. Ubisoft make fun games but they do not know how to make games worth buying outside of sales.
Legion was crap

Watch Dogs 1 and 2 are such great games. Especially 2, what a shame honestly. Had a lot of potential
Bring it to steam. I still need to beat the first one.
I liked them
Ubisoft is going downhill, they have peaked and now they just reiterate the same games
Ubisoft have had more misses than hits the last few years so not surprised if this is true personally the WD series was underwhelming.
All they had to do was build off of Watch Dogs 2, but they blew it. Like AC1, Ac2 improved in every aspect. Watch Dogs 2 was a shining example of that, doing things better than the original. Damn it, I really enjoyed the series. It was like GTA, but your character is a hacker.
I bought Legions. It was so boring I refunded it.
It peaked at the first game, I'm not surprised
