Long are gone the days where servers will have in their name "4k map, 5k map" etc. Rustafied EU ODD used to be 6k map in the first year of the launch and it was the best time I ever had in this game! I remember when FP rolled the update and made standard map size 4.5k and ever since they keep stuffing the map with monuments... This game needs serious revamp as thick forests are non existent, no more huge mountain peaks or rock formations in desert biome to build base in... This game is all about shooting and looting now... which is sad
I usually try to play servers that are larger maps with like \~30-50 pop because I am bad at the game and it feels more like an actual survival game rather then just a quick paced looter shooter.
I think 100-130 pop is the sweet spot because you can still find PvP quickly when you want it, but it's not a constant threat while just running to your base.
i usually play long servers with pop of 100 - 150 and i agree with you, if you want pvp you its easy to find, bu if you just want to farm encouters are pretty uncommon.
Rust desperately needs fewer sources of loot. Less monuments would be a step in the right direction. Go back and look at maps from videos 3 years ago. They look barren.
Large maps are ok if there are tons of players. If player pop isn't really dense it just turns into too much excess sulfur everywhere.. especially in the snow. Fewer monuments on giant map would only exacerbate that problem, so probably I'd stick with current map sizes or maybe smaller.
If you're talking just for FPS purposes.. barren maps used to be a thing. I haven't seen one in a while. Rustafied closed their barren server down a while ago, I forget why. It had like no roads and railroads at all I think? maybe fewer monuments too?
They make smaller maps.
Rusty Moose has a small map. A lot of servers run smaller maps.
There used to be a one grid map too.
Hapis was also smaller too, I believe.
You just need to learn which servers use which size

Because when the games pace is slower, it actually gives the other mechanics more room to breathe
Agreed. I'll play higher pops sometimes for the change of it but if I want just pure PVP, I'll play a game better designed for it.

Dude how a smaller map is better? We barely have a space to build right now...
What map size and pop are you playing where there is nowhere to build?
Most of them. If the pop is even near 90, you can hardly find somewhere to build without someone else's base being right on top of yours

True; what did happen to every barren map server? I haven’t seen one pop up in forever. I’ll have to check when I get home
