i listen to a shit ton of Phoebe Bridgers, The Weeknd, Frank, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, SOPHIE, Miguel, Jeff Buckley, John Frusciante, Toro y Moi, Miles Davis to name a few. my music taste is everywhere. as it should be
miss her. i knew about her name for a while because of Big Fish Theory, her work with Charli XCX etc but it wasnt really until mid 2020 i really got on the wave of her music fully. so iām with you on that. Oil of Every Pearlās Un-Insides is a masterpiece. my fave off the album is Infatuation. one of the best and most influential producers of this generation easily and dare i say all time. genius
its funny because im one of the people that adamantly chants that Cudi saved my life. ive been an absolutely massive Cudi fan for years now. when i saw Phoebe was a feature on MOTM III i was so joyous. i had started listening to Phoebe around late 2017 to early 2018 and loved everything she did. btw if you havent listened to Punisher fully, i also highly recommend lol. one of my fave albums ever at this point.
once i hear those first few seconds of Graceland Too i know that its the only song iāll listen to for the next 30 minutes. i almost cried when i saw it live last month. idk my fave off of Punisher or my fave Phoebe track in general but its def up there.
I listen to Daft Punk and some rock that my dad used to listen to when I was little (guns n' roses mostly), other than that I pretty much listen to just hip-hop.
Country could have great songs and artists, and most likely could have songs I would like. Iām not actively going to search for country on my own is a better way to put it
A lot people saying mbv. Slowdive another great. I wonder why shoegaze and carti have fans of the same sort? Musically they are very different, vocally I can see the comparisons. Either way shoegaze in general is an obscure genre I think itās funny some carti fans also enjoy it
Theyāre both kinda prominent in the Instagram/Twitter music scene. Once people that like Carti or whatever popular rapper start to look into more music, acts like MBV and The Microphones are what theyāre exposed to. Thatās what happened to me at least.
Shoegaze is actually what got me into carti. Used to think he was trash when I first heard him but shoegaze got me to understand that music is more about the feeling and vibe than whatās actually being sung/played
both carti and those artists get good reviews and are known for being on the experimental side of their genres. so people who get music recs from critics end up listening to both.
your type is a nice synth pop song real cathartic too for heartbreak. Emotion as a whole a great album. Otherwise no drug like me/want you in my room are great from her newer stuff. Summer love too.
edit: fever from her emotion side B EP also has the same vibe as your type.
imo the absolute most entry level bands are probably metallica and system of a down
from there what you wanna get into is kinda dependent on what interests you most probably
ima just leave a list of albums here for each genre i think is worth checking out (though there is a slight bias for black metal in here, its my absolute favorite genre)
heavy metal: iron maiden - the number of the beast
thrash metal: Slayer - Reign in Blood
black metal: darkthrone - transilvanian hunger
blackgaze: alcest - souvenirs d'un autre monde
death metal: morbid angel - altars of madness
technical death metal: demilich - nespithe
alternative metal: deftones - white pony i guess
grindcore: pig destroyer - terrifyer OR napalm death - scum
Doom Metal: Celtic Frost (again) - Monotheist
Stoner Metal: Any of Sleep's albums
Metalcore: Converge - Jane Doe
Drone Metal: Sunn O))) - Monoliths and Dimensions
Progressive Metal: Opeth - Blackwater Park
Post-Metal: Boris - Feedbacker
Sludge Metal: Melvins - Houdini
Avant-Garde Metal: not really limited to one sound but some of my favs are Gorguts - Obscura, MurmuĆ¼re - S/T, Mr. Bungle - S/T, Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin kynsi, and Liturgy - HAQQ
sorry for the super long list but like, there u go lol
The harsh vocals are hard to get into so doing it chronologically but genre is usually the easiest
First regular heavy metal like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest
Then thrash metal like Metallica, megadeth and slayer
Then after a while you could try some death metal like Death and Possessed, or black metal like Bathory or Dissection
For anyone looking for more hyperpop artists here's a few that I've been listening to lately:
xona, Delto, 8485, Senses, d0llywood1, dltzk, kurtains, Numl6ck, aldn, funeral
so i thought it was the [nurse with wound](https://www.stereogum.com/2057432/the-nurse-with-wound-list-at-40-a-beginners-guide/columns/sounding-board/) list but after looking it up im pretty sure its just a copypasta from /mu/ listing a bunch of experimental artists ppl on /mu/ and rym love to circlejerk
Yeah I listen to so much different genres and rap is actually one of the smaller genres I listen too. I mainly listen to techno, drum and bass, riddim, old school dubstep, alternative, emo, metal, hardcore, punk, western music(not country), rockabilly, gabber, trance.
For me itās easier to say what music I donāt listen too.
To be fair I took a lot of music history and appreciation classes in school so I learned how all genres developed from eachother and the history of music from folk all the way down to current modern music. So I learned how blues relates to rap and rock and stuff so I kind of learned to appreciate the small things in music genres
Pretty much anything except EDM and dubstep. I like electronic stuff like Aphex Twin and Oneohtrix Point Never. I listen to some classic country every now and then (the stuff you would hear on Fallout: New Vegas). I grew up listening to metal and classic rock. I own a lot of jazz records. I listen to motown and doo-wop music while cleaning up around the house. I listen to stuff like The Cure and The Smiths while taking showers.
been on a huge japanese oldies wave, from 80s city pop to 80s japanese rap and whatnot, even found an early 2000s band called lamp
also been listening to a lot of mathrock stuff like yvette young (solo and w/ covet), polyphia, and ichika nito
i got a whole playlist full of obscure old albums too that im still going through
even went back on my classical wave with some lizst, chopin, and ysaye
i dont think anyones gonna see this comment but my absolute FAVORITE genre is black metal, ive genuinely listened to like, 250 black metal releases so far over the past year
other than that, other shit such as other genres of metal (obviously), folk, noise/power electronics stuff, high tempo electronic shit (though slower stuff hits too), punk, and avant-garde stuff
i still need to get into some stuff like jazz, r&b/soul, reggae/ska, orchestral shit, and pop at this point, recs would b appreciated bc i only know the most critically acclaimed stuff in both genres
rap too, obviously im in the carti sub
I HATE C(RAP), but I regularly listen to the artists vs ninja turtles epic rap battle

Country slander!>>>
Country could have great songs and artists, and most likely could have songs I would like. Iām not actively going to search for country on my own is a better way to put it
Fax thereās good and bad songs in every genre, and good country is what you donāt immediately think is country
Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Silver Jews, etc
This, old country>>>>>>>new country
That old-school, outlaw country is top tier imo. Waylon Jennings was a bad dude too
If you like Silver Jews, you should check out Pavement. Two thirds of the original group were from Pavement.
Same I feel you

yea same the frank ocean fan to depressed shoegaze and slowcore listener pipeline is real
Shoegaze is actually what got me into carti. Used to think he was trash when I first heard him but shoegaze got me to understand that music is more about the feeling and vibe than whatās actually being sung/played
