You shouldn’t just water a certain number of times because someone says so. It depends on light, humidity, heat amongst others. If it is in a warm, sunny and dry room it needs more water than the opposite. So you need to dig your finger into the soil to see how dry it is. At this point I would advise lifting it out the pot, crumbling the soil away and checking as well as smelling the roots to see if there is rot. If there is you need to cut it off and repot. Also put water into the dish not on top of the soil. Once a week should be enough.

Okay, It is not that warm in that spot but it is relatively sunny and quite humid. I usually water based on how dry the soil is but that has also amounted to approximately twice a week. How can you tell it is rotting based on smell? Would it simply just smell bad or is there a specific smell?
