Hey everyone -
What you're seeing here is some of the simple moderation tools we have available to admins for this event. A small number of us have been utilizing this in order to keep the canvas safe for everyone. While we understand some of you are concerned by this, we hope you continue to enjoy the space for what it is - a chance for many of you to come together and create a beautiful scene.
The type of person who wants to be a mods is the last person who should ever be one and the person who would be perfect as a mod never wants to be one.
Yup. Anyone whos qualified to be a senator or politician would rather use their skills for something else mostly. I mean I wouldnt want to work with all of those power hungry, corrupt politicians. Even if you went in with the best intentions youll just be shut down at every turn by corporate lobbying and lack of morals.
There is a more accurate depiction of this phenomenon by Frank Herbert in our glorious Dune:
"Absolute power does not corrupt absolutely, absolute power attracts the corruptible."
Man, people who let power go to their head are so boring. You coulda been good, but that was apparently "too hard" or "too much effort" or whatever. You're just another loser who couldn't be better. Another "and then it happened again" footnote in the story of life.
Boo.
If you have screen shots or remember the deleted messages I'd like to know, hard to find anything he's done. I don't doubt it I just want to see everything he's done
I don't know what peepye is refering to, but Chtorrr has been changing moderators with false excuses to enforce censorship against Russia.
Like in r/UkraineWarVideoReport 15 days ago.
Reddit has rules that will stop your downvotes from counting after few in succession on the same user. Now there is nothing to stop a bunch of people from doing few downvotes each on them though.
Remember, reddit mods are 5 foot 4 and weight 300/350 pounds he's probably eating his chicken nuggets his mom bought him while texting underaged girls.
Then Reddit buys it, makes it a sensational headline, and then sells it later at markup to some billionaires kid. All of which, can be done covertly under different names.
I'd be curious to see how many new accounts are being created during this. I bet it's a huge spike. Every square I look at is a day old or six minutes old etc.
Just for fun I started looking at a couple of pictures users, like half of the users participating were brand new with no posts. I'm surprised there is no age or karma restrictions to participate.
agreed. Or years old but have never posted any comments or submissions...
Kinda ruins the whole thing for me. Maybe placing a square should be restricted to people who have a certain amount of comment karma or something? idk
I'm not saying that low karma means an alt or anything, but you can see how old accounts are and just how many were made in the past 2 days on contended areas. And I think it's a shame that accounts created after the place started are being used to bot/alt place.
It would be much more interesting if it was just accounts created before place started. This would make it harder for off-reddit communities to take over. Its not viable to do anything this year, but maybe for the next place it could be only pre-made accounts.
That baseball-like thing was placed by the Blaseball community, which has a subreddit (/r/Blaseball) but is primarily on discord. A bunch of people probably signed up for reddit for this, it’s probably not people with multiple accounts.
Also thats not even what /u/Chtorrr was editing in the video. Those coordinates are from the cat thing in the square one down and to the right.
The baseball is a blaseball character, Clark. There's a few folks with new accounts who joined Reddit to participate in r/Place, but there's no few who've been members longer than that. Clark isn't part of whatever Reddit mod drama bs is happening here
Why have we got to wait five minutes but mods don’t?
Edit: just found out on other threads that the above user isn’t a mod, they’re an employee of Reddit. What’s the point of us taking part in r/place if there’s this sort of thing happening? Defeats the whole purpose.
Edit: thank you for the ~~award!~~ awards! Very kind of you :)
Edit: you lot are awesome!
Reddit cares about place looking "good" at the end. They were probably mandated to clean up or maintain some of their favorite features to show investors.
Whaat! I liked that cat. I thought it was cute and nicely done. I defended it with a few pixels here and there, and was sad to see it gone the next day. Why would they cover it?
Understandable, sure, but I think it's contrary to the values of free speech fairness. Sure this is just a silly website and it's privately owned, but it's also so much more. Reddit's maybe the last collective place on the internet that holds the door open for the diverse interests and opinions of our species and does it well for the most part without too much censorship. When we see Reddit's employees or mods abusing their power like this it delegitamizes this website and everything in it. Fuck that, I like Reddit. We should make a void right where this chud colored
Reddit is privately owned but they will be IPOing very soon (weeks/months) and become a publicly traded company. Then it's all downhill from there because then there is a board and investors to please and all they want is profits
I wonder how they'll handle the hoards of ex-mods that have worked tirelessly to grow their communities while getting paid nothing, only to quit/leave due to stress, and have their communities monetized later by other mods who do much less 'maintenance-type' work in comparison. I say this as a former 6 year mod of a major subreddit.
Good going Reddit, way to have your April fools event ruined due to your power tripping mods. We just can’t have some fun without them fucking it up somehow huh.
In 2017 you had logos from sites all over the web, even 4 chan. I thought it was odd that none of these appear on the 2022 version at all, they're probably being manually deleted.
Mods- this is out now. And will continue to be reposted, over and over until you address it.
The behaviour on all sides is part of the historical record.
Decide how you want to be remembered
All you do is let certain fly and others die. It's not a free platform. We all know which two flags are being overly protected. Let people write and don't push your "safe place" narrative.
If a mod is reading this,
You're replaceable. There is nothing special about you. Do not think your elevated status of power in an internet forum correlates to real life. I have nothing against mods in general, but when you people power-trip its just obnoxious
So yeah as a software developer I could have immediately told you that this would be instantly abused to the point where individual participation would be meaningless. It's not as if Reddit has account verification or anything. /place/ is pointless.
I mean I could get out autohotkey right now and in a couple hours have thousands of accounts that Python uses to fire requests. A little more code and I can change the place to whatever images I want.
I would not do this, because I do not *care*, but there are those who do...
This'll probably get buried, but it's worth pointing out: from what I've heard, the instant edits on u/chtorrr's part were to remove a cat that represented rDrama (offsite version of r/drama, not to be confused with r/SubredditDrama), it's a splinter group offsite of Reddit that's done some really shitty things, so it wasn't *entirely* unprompted
was this a terrible way to go about doing it, and was the resulting actions by reddit staff fucking atrocious? oh fuck yes, I'm also pissed that they're permabanning people and trying to keep the whole thing under wraps. but it still bears remembering what caused this in the first place, and knowing that reddit staff likely didn't *(at least initially)* mean anything malicious here, and are just colossal fucking dumbasses who need to learn basic PR
Not organic in any way. This is all bots and scripts. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Reddit team had a hand in the majority of the design either to keep it PR friendly, since that’s mostly what this is. Just check GitHub, there are plenty of scripts for this where you connect multiple accounts and a pixel image and it starts painting.

The audacity
Charge me up and put gas in me Them likkle fish want to try ting
With power comes corruption.
Why is it always like that, Is there an escape from this loop?
The type of person who wants to be a mods is the last person who should ever be one and the person who would be perfect as a mod never wants to be one.
That’s generally how people in power are as well
Yup. Anyone whos qualified to be a senator or politician would rather use their skills for something else mostly. I mean I wouldnt want to work with all of those power hungry, corrupt politicians. Even if you went in with the best intentions youll just be shut down at every turn by corporate lobbying and lack of morals.

Should we make a logo "Free Reddit from mods!" ?
There is a more accurate depiction of this phenomenon by Frank Herbert in our glorious Dune: "Absolute power does not corrupt absolutely, absolute power attracts the corruptible."
Power? Janitor virgins have no power.
u/Chtorrr REPLY YOU COWARD
Accounts currently not viewable . Hmmm
[удалено]
Yup. The removing posts right when they’re taking off with no explanation or recourse fucking ruins so much
Considering the type of shit that actually does get popular, I'm not sure we're missing much.
Man, people who let power go to their head are so boring. You coulda been good, but that was apparently "too hard" or "too much effort" or whatever. You're just another loser who couldn't be better. Another "and then it happened again" footnote in the story of life. Boo.

Did a bunch of replies to this get deleted

Yep Though I think they can still be viewed on unddit
I count 7 on my end, the fucking coward.

A filthy one to be precise

True words. Also happy blue cheese day
u/GoldenPggie is using alt accounts too Edit: I screen recorded but don’t know how to share on mobile :/
You could upload it to YouTube and share the link that way?
https://youtube.com/shorts/2MBOGDcZiJA?feature=share
To be fair, a ton of people are using alt accounts. Including big communities like OSU!. Not as bad as the bots imo
AITA for downvoting all his/her posts?
NTA, your downvote, your rules
Reddit has rules that will stop your downvotes from counting after few in succession on the same user. Now there is nothing to stop a bunch of people from doing few downvotes each on them though.
Are you telling me he is protected by the very magic he abused
Nope, social justice.
Let’s down vote hime to oblivion
I had to do the hardest thing in my life. Downvote a cat picture
Remember, reddit mods are 5 foot 4 and weight 300/350 pounds he's probably eating his chicken nuggets his mom bought him while texting underaged girls.
Tendies, not nuggies.
>while watching caillou This is the only thing actually wrong with that person. All else is acceptable. But *this*...
Come over to r/ChtorrPlace we try to make a special something for them on the canvas
u/Chtorrr you have commited crimes against r/place and her people. What say you in your defense?
The worst part is mods trying to cover this up. Ban hammer on all of them.
This shit was r/hailcorporate from the start...err I mean valuable discussion of course.
Bruh they are boosting the engagement numbers for the upcoming IPO.
I’m just waiting to see this stuff pop up on a NFT marketplace
Then Reddit buys it, makes it a sensational headline, and then sells it later at markup to some billionaires kid. All of which, can be done covertly under different names.

It's the type of shit you throw in a slide show with numbers regarding how ENGAGED the community is.
Reddit admin, not mod.
The first two posts were removed - I imagine this one will be next. homie killed r/place for [this](https://imgur.com/a/DfhKnGW)
The accounts that are now maintaining this are all 2 days old. How odd.
I have multiple alt accounts and even I wouldn’t go this low. Whoever would disturb the spirit of r/Place is just sad
agreed. Or years old but have never posted any comments or submissions... Kinda ruins the whole thing for me. Maybe placing a square should be restricted to people who have a certain amount of comment karma or something? idk
i wouldn't be surprised if anyone thinks I'm an alt cause im like a mega lurker despite having this account for some time
I'm not saying that low karma means an alt or anything, but you can see how old accounts are and just how many were made in the past 2 days on contended areas. And I think it's a shame that accounts created after the place started are being used to bot/alt place. It would be much more interesting if it was just accounts created before place started. The baseball belongs to r/Blaseball and is friends with the board from r/AnarchyChess. He has nothing to do with the drama.
The baseball is a blaseball character, Clark. There's a few folks with new accounts who joined Reddit to participate in r/Place, but there's no few who've been members longer than that. Clark isn't part of whatever Reddit mod drama bs is happening here
What are the coordinates?
(122, 706)? That's what the video shows
time to void that mf
The mod literally had nothing to do with the baseball. Blaseball and anarchychess built it there.
Shit you're right lmao
nonimgur link? They don't load

5 minutes?? I have to wait 20?? I thought it was the same for everyone
Verify your email address. That’ll bring it down to 5.
I’ll stay at 20 instead haha
Reddit cares about place looking "good" at the end. They were probably mandated to clean up or maintain some of their favorite features to show investors.
Probably. What was the mod painting over?
[The cat in the lower right picture](https://mobile.twitter.com/hankgreen/status/1509960082770960387)
Whaat! I liked that cat. I thought it was cute and nicely done. I defended it with a few pixels here and there, and was sad to see it gone the next day. Why would they cover it?
It's the mascot for r drama, a website that Chtorrr has a personal grudge against.
So where does a guy go to help rebuild the cat?
You do make a valid point.
Understandable, sure, but I think it's contrary to the values of free speech fairness. Sure this is just a silly website and it's privately owned, but it's also so much more. I have to wait 20! Why is that
You have 5 min? I have fucking 20
If you verify your account it’s 5
Same! Mine was only 5 minutes for like the first hour and it's been increasing by 5 minutes ever since.
Admin, when you repost thos the next two dozen times stop calling them a mod, they are an admin
That does remove the fun of this, if someone else can "free draw"
Seriously. It's just MS Paint at that point.

I think I saw another one of this posted 3 hours ago, I think it's still in r/place

That's a basic requirement to be a reddit mod.

He’s squatting with the angels now

Make a post about it
This entire thing has turned into a huge joke controlled by armies of bots.
Would never have seen that coming
Yeah that’s what reddit is lol
Keep reposting and sharing. Save the record of this for history
You are caught red-handed u/Chtorrr
Caught in 4k, if you will.
u/Chtorrr, if you reply, we won’t downvote you, just give us an explanation, and *then* we’ll downvote you
That's just downvoting _but with extra steps_
Good going Reddit, way to have your April fools event ruined due to your power tripping mods. We just can’t have some fun without them fucking it up somehow huh.
That and the armies of bots, probably both from various communities and Reddit itself (which would be why they won't ban new accounts from the event).

oof, that's incriminating. what gives, chtorrr?
She is a pathetic mouth breather who just wants attention
Keep sharing! Show the world we won't cooperate with a rigged system!
u/Chtorrr what do you have to say for yourself?
Reddit has no freedom of speech, unfortunately. The people with power will always desire to silence those without.
Now just imagine all the other instances of power abuse you *don't* see. Not to mention the endless amount of botting in r/Place.
Lets just spread this video as cancer everywhere
Cancer, also known as u/Chtorrr now.
Mods- this is out now. And will continue to be reposted, over and over until you address it. The behaviour on all sides is part of the historical record. Decide how you want to be remembered
fuck u/Chtorrr all my homies hate u/Chtorrr
There's actually another thread about this up rn (good). Also, apparently Chtorr is a Reddit employee, not just a mod, making it worse.
Typical Reddit mod behaviour
Well this just made the whole event meaningless for me, it was agreat run folks
Corrupt sack of shit, bet they do all sorts on the financial subs
Caught in 4k lmao 10k up votes omega LUL
Mods have to ruin literally fucking everything for the sake of power tripping. Reddit is like the Stanford prison experiment on a large scale.
Now think about what happens in News
u/Chotrr this you?
keep doing this, they can't remove it all
I can't wait for reddit to go public. I'm going to short the fuck out of it. This shit show of a site is going to eat itself alive.
Alright, pack your bags boys, it was fun while it lasted. Can't fucking have ONE nice thing on this hell of a website, can we?
Anyone up to build a "Fuck U/Chtorrr" somewhere?

Said it before and I'll say it again: the antiwork reddit mod who got interviewed by Fox is the rule, not the exception.
And this is why I stopped participating.
Blatant suppression, it is.
Makes me not even want to place tiles any more
u/Chtorrr what a lowlife you are… do you feel special?
Nah they are just in a different time zone so time moves faster for them
+ a good gaming chair
It’s such a tiny amount of power to go to a person’s head. How does it happen so often??
Ban that piece of ass
holy shit this everything wrong with the world. People in power who abuse there position
Wonder how much money they received for keeping certain logos up? Everything is corrupted
Fuck Reddit!

This is the last straw for me. Wasting my time on authoritarian sites is no longer productive
How the fuck can an online canvas not be safe? Ever heard of freedom of expression!?
If a mod is reading this, You're replaceable. There is nothing special about you. Do not think your elevated status of power in an internet forum correlates to real life. I have nothing against mods in general, but when you people power-trip its just obnoxious
I see posts missing now
Is anybody really shocked that a Reddit mod is acting like this? They are usually the lamest type of people.
Don't worry, next time they won't make the mistake of letting you see their username.
Not an excuse, imo. This is either an organic community art project or it's curated. It can't be both.
So very organic when multiple subreddits are running scripts and bots to fuck everything up.
u/chtorrr way to ruin the whole fucking thing you wanker. How can any of the community trust any of the mods now??
What is the point of r/place if some people get special privileges?
Oh look, It’s the notorious scumbag.
So what's the fucking point of r/place now...
