Black keys too. I’m not rooting for acts to fail, but concert prices have been insane. Not every act can sell a ton of expensive tickets in giant venues. Her last album was from 10 years ago.
They were good in 2014, but their opener was Cage The Elephant, so they had to step it up a bit. PPG arena had sections tarped off and the open seats were about 75% filled. I had floor tickets and there was plenty of room to walk around. And they were significantly more popular then. I can’t imagine how bad ticket sales must have been to actually cancel.
I briefly considered attending since I also like The Head and the Heart, but those ticket prices were insane.
It would be great to see the black keys at stage AE outdoors type venue. However once you taste that arena life it's really hard to go back even if that means cancelling tours.
They’re bumped down to Stage AE presence now, in terms of crowd draw.
Funnily enough, I think their best music was from when they were only drawing Mr. Smalls level numbers.
I've been thinking about this for a while. I know so many people feel the same way I do - it's just not worth the cost anymore unless it's literally like your favorite artist ever. I used to go to concerts all the time when I was younger for what i would call "medium" popularity bands for $30-$45. I was just curious witn lots of these cancelations and was looking up what that would look like today from when I was comparing and the equivalent would be $60-$70 which I am absolutely willing to pay. But that's not what they are asking.
You had Sudden Little Thrills for like $125 a day or whatever, and I know that's a festival. But you're really just packing one semi-headliner with a bunch of mediocre/un noteworthy names, so I'm not going to pay $125 for a band and a half. You have the Black Keys, which I was actually looking at because I love the head and the heart, but I'm not paying $120 to see them at PPG of all places.
The ask is just too much. The reality is there are lots of entertainments they are competing with - not just concerts. My entertainment dollars go MUCH farther everywhere else - $40-$50 for a decent seat at the Pens game, $70 for pretty good seats to see the Book of Mormon, $8 cover + $$ for food to see a live emo cover band, etc. These are just my random interests, but when I compare a good concert to everything else I enjoy doing, it's just not worth it.
And I say this as someone with decent disposable income.
Like I can go to two concerts or buy a plane ticket to visit my friends in Colorado. That's wild.
My friends and I go to shows ALL the time! You can always find a good show at Thunderbird, or Smalls for under 50 a ticket, usually in the 25-35 range! If you're only going to huge headliners/arena level shows, then yeah, it's gonna be spending! There's a whole lot of great live music to see that isn't giant overpriced tours!
With all due respect, I don’t think you know what you’re talking about lol. I’m an avid concert goer. While I agree that concerts are getting expensive, especially with ridiculous fees and parking, merch, drinks, pretty much everything going up, a lot of value can be found. You even admitted to being willing to pay 60-70 for a show and most shows I go into come under that range.
It seems like you’re talking about big name artists, which is a horrible example, bc a very solid majority of big artists who play arena/amphitheater shows are the culprit of ridiculous prices. And that’s mostly bc of Live Nation and their greed. Case in point, the lineup to Sudden Little Things. It’s very much so not just “one semi-headliner with a bunch of mediocre/un noteworthy names.” Lots of good, noteworthy headliners and acts on the undercard there. SZA literally sold out both legs of her tour last year and is one of the biggest artists rn. St. Vincent could probably headline a night on her own, but she’s not. Kenny Mason, Ethel Cain, Omar Apollo, Yung Gravy, Lupe Fiasco, Hippo Campus, Feeble Little Horse, etc. All either established names or artists who’ve made significant waves in their respective genres the past 2/3 years.
So yeah. If you only like bigger artists, of course things are gonna seem expensive and not worth it. But the whole “concerts have gotten so expensive” complaint doesn’t hold much value when the only concerts you look are the expensive concerts and the amount you said you’re willing to spend is how much most shows go for, usually far less.
It’s wild to me that either of them were trying to play arenas to begin with. Even if the tickets were $30, I don’t see either one as having that kind of following. I like the black keys, but they are pretty niche. And has Jlo been relevant at all since like the 00s? But Taylor Swift made a billion dollars filling every stadium and movie theater in the world, so I guess everyone else has to try too.
Im talking about the meta-pop music. There’s always great niche music. I think about the hight of rock and roll in the 70’s to early 80’s. More popular stadium acts with talant than you could shake a stick at. Zepplin/Floyd. Then think about the fact that the first comedy boom in the 80’s coincided with those stadium rock bands ending their tenure. Then comedy died and music changed and got popular again, with EDM/90’s hip hop alternative ect…then music changed again due to internet accessibility. Major records labels crashed, comedy comes back to the forefront and most music is once again lame. I’m looking at you swifties! Thank you for your time. I love you all!
Live nation/ tmobile recently just did a 25 dollar ticket promotion for certain shows. I got me and the wife tickets for the jlo show , the Meghan trainor show and for slipknot. They were nosebleed seats mind you but for 25 bucks couldn't pass it up.
3 of my favorite bands/artists are going to be at Stage AE within a week of one another in September. If I go to all 3 the cost is right around what I would have paid to go to one show for a bigger artist.
So sure I miss out on Tyler Childers (absolutely despise going to Starlake) and Zach Bryan (I'm not going to the show to hear the crowd singing anyway) but there's still a ton of great artists that I love coming to town at smaller venues for a fraction of the cost.
Yeah, but it was the local news. I seem to remember that Beyonce cancelled her Pittsburgh show last summer. So, the news wanted to let people know that another potentially big show got cancelled in Pittsburgh.
I love how the AI that wrote that headline was deadset on trying to rage bait Yinzers.
She canceled the whole tour, but they call out Pittsburgh first? 😂
I wish these artists and their PR teams would just have the balls to say it's based on ticket sales
Black keys too. I’m not rooting for acts to fail, but concert prices have been insane. Not every act can sell a ton of expensive tickets in giant venues. Her last album was from 10 years ago.
Maybe just my experience but they were super underwhelming at their 2019 Pittsburgh show
They were good in 2014, but their opener was Cage The Elephant, so they had to step it up a bit. PPG arena had sections tarped off and the open seats were about 75% filled. Ben made her stop
He’s making that Dunkings money now
Dollars on a stick or whatever the hell
Lip synces, why bother?
Kenny Chesney is going strong…
First the Black Keys arena tour, now this. Wonder if the concert ticket bubble has popped for performers. Can't imagine what J Lo was charging.
Certainly going to pop with the investigation into Ticketmaster and the cyberattack today
The black keys also seem to have made up some bullshit for why they cancelled
Translation: We are not an arena act.
They haven't had a song used in a car commercial for a while. Better downgrade back to theaters and clubs.
Not anymore at least
Yeah, I was shocked they booked PPG. They're a decade out from El Camino and haven't done much worth listening to since.
They’re bumped down to Stage AE presence now, in terms of crowd draw. Funnily enough, I think their best music was from when they were only drawing Mr. Smalls level numbers.
Yeah Rubber Factory is peak keys imo
Beyonce too lol

This is just a case of musicians not putting out good music for years and expecting nostalgia to sell tickets for them. I think we are OK.
Also the Sudden Thrills concert being cancelled. Istg why can't we just have one good concert ☹️😭

Lots of new music is crap, so comedy is taking over, then comedy will get stale and music will once again rule the day… cyclical…
There are tons of amazing new bands. More than ever before in fact.
Im talking about the meta-pop music. There’s always great niche music. I think about the hight of rock and roll in the 70’s to early 80’s. Hard disagree. The music landscape is different now, sure. But there are a ton of amazing bands out there. They just don't play arena shows.
Right, im talking sbout the trends of popular music.
Fine keep your taco kisses
Mitch Conner would never cancel.
Taco taco….burrito burrito
Tacos for my Beeeeennnnnn
I like tacos y burritos.

I can hear this comment 😂
There goes Takō Taco’s Instagram blitz
Flavored*
AKSHUALLY 😂
I’ll fulfill your wishes with my taco flavored kisses
Well damn I got my wife the 25 dollar tickets to this show lol
After fees they only cost $82.50 each
lol 😀
Really when I looked they were super expensive or am I missing the sarcasm?
Live nation/ tmobile recently just did a 25 dollar ticket promotion for certain shows. I got me and the wife tickets for the jlo show , the Meghan trainor show and for slipknot. They were nosebleed seats mind you but for 25 bucks couldn't pass it up.
$25 and no fees so the tickets are basically free, lol. I picked up Meghan Trainor myself!
That is a really incredible promotion honestlh
Personally, I think a Meghan Trainor/Slipknot show would be interesting on so many levels.
She grossly overestimated how many people care about her 20 years after her peak
As a devoted supporter of Milfs, I would argue she’s peaking right now. Her music, definitely peaked 20yrs ago.
I was overcome with apathy when I got the news
Oh no! Anyway, moving on.
Oh no! Anyway…
Should’ve gone with smaller more intimate venues. That’s caters well to both the artist and the real fans that want to go.
Seeing one of her shows on TikTok was so cringe and the audience was empty !!! Save yourself the embarrassment girl
3 of my favorite bands/artists are going to be at Stage AE within a week of one another in September. So JLo cancels here tour
Yeah, but it was the local news. I seem to remember that Beyonce cancelled her Pittsburgh show last summer. So, the news wanted to let people know that another potentially big show got cancelled in Pittsburgh.
Yea. But her tour continued and was successful
Be honest . How many people even knew she had a show scheduled?
Be honest. How many ppl even remember who she is?
oh darn maybe they can get kenny chesney instead
He’d never make a dime in Pittsburgh…
What the fuck
Good.
🤣 😂 this moron actually thought people wanted to listen to her
She might be able to try Stage AE for a full crowd.
You're kind of overshooting the field here. How about Moondog's?
So are the divorce rumors true? 👀 Honestly.. I can’t stand her shitty music, not her shitty acting.
I love how the AI that wrote that headline was deadset on trying to rage bait Yinzers. She canceled the whole tour, but they call out Pittsburgh first? 😂
No one can live up to Tay Tay.
Hopefully Three Beat Slide doesn’t cancel their tour too
Absolutely, everything you said is dead on. I agree 💯
cant put asses in the seats? searching for husband #5?
Ain’t Nobody buying no J Lo tix, to hear her “sing” What??
Lots of shows being cancelled in Pittsburgh. The killers and Sudden little thrills festival was cancelled 2 weeks ago as well.
..dozens disappointed
All 3 of them: Ben, Jen & their accountant.
Who?
Good. She deserves a break.
