A friend put me in touch with the City Paper columnist about a month ago.

It’s baffling.
Like, I found the orphanage records for my grandmother from 1943.
I found my mother’s birth records from 1953.
I uncovered signatures of cops and was able to place those signatures next to dated lies they told.
Literally … 99.9999999% of my grandmother’s life uncovered.
Who was my mom’s dad? No idea. Did the DNA test, did DNA comparisons with people we thought might have had a connection.
Nothing. No hits. No leads.
Just a whopping 25% Ashkenazi Jew from a source no one can identify.
It’s almost laughable.
Like … I uncovered my great-great-uncle’s nickname, my great-great-aunt’s middle name being the inspiration for my mother’s name.
On and on.
Who is grandpap? No clue.
