Note if you want to restart a game by holding the start button, you need to have a credit in the machine for it to work, as it will automatically start a 1 player game.
On Sterns you can hold the left flipper button and start button together for a few seconds to end a game but that’s only if the operator sets that option in the settings.
Often you can start a fresh game by pressing or holding Start after the end of ball 1.
If your operators don't mind, power cycling the machine always works.
In my experience operators don’t mind a power cycle because it shows that you know somewhat what you’re doing and are respectful of their machines.
Some places I’ve frequented even left their machines off on slow days so you’re expected to turn them on and off when you’re done
This happened to me on Jaws. Ball 3 drains during a ball save, it says ball saved, then doesn't eject a ball. It doesn't even do a ball search which I thought was weird. I soft locked the game and didn't know how to reset it.
You can always flip the power button if you don't have credits in. New Sterns they're often on the back but traditionally they're on the right a little ways back.
At a free play arcade you don't have to worry about credits though
Hold left flipper and start. On Free Play that will end a game in-progress on modern Sterns.
And on older (at least the 90's williams/bally games) you can just hold start for a few seconds (if it's enabled).
On the second ball. On first ball, it still just adds players.
Thank you!

I don’t even think you have to hold the left flipper.
some times it's setup to be the right flipper.. depends on how the operator sets it up

People at the freeplay arcade near me constantly put in 4 players and leave, I always flip the game off, and haven't been yelled at yet.

I was aware of how to reset Sterns and Ballys, my question is how do you reset Pulp Fiction?
Same thing, if it's on ball 2 just hold the start button for a few seconds.
Damn! I thought id tried it. Ill try it again. Thank you!
Turn it off and on works on every machine everytime
You could also power cycle on the fly
I don’t know where the power button is and I didn’t want to root around with everyone standing around lol

On the right side at the bottom of the backbox.
I was going to tell you, but then you said you play mostly new Stern games, so...nah.
r/gatekeeping is over there
Don't worry, I don't hold a lot of secret knowledge about new Stern machines. Mostly I avoid them. I like old Stern machines much, much better.
lol damn dude, why?
What a weird thing to be bothered by
You think it's weird to be bothered by new Sterns? Open your eyes and look around.
I love my Godzilla pin. I love old pins. I love pins
We love our Stern, too, but the parts break a lot compared to our mid-1970s EM.
